Do you ever wonder why certain photographs linger with the viewer long after they see them? Why sometimes the smallest point of interest makes the biggest impression? How so much “nothing” can feel so compelling in a scene? Minimalism photography techniques can add a powerful storytelling element to any genre, they can evoke emotion, and bring balance to your frame. Using Baffin Island in the Canadian Arctic as his backdrop, this class will outline Curtis’s approach to creating stronger images with a minimalist mindset.
Learn to use the creative techniques of minimalism to intentionally account for every inch of your frame. Discover how to minimize clutter, work with negative space, and master visual balance to boost the overall impact of your compositions. Working in a clean visual style students will learn to look for strong anchors, shapes, and lines while eliminating visual distractions. Curtis will share his experiences and images from some of the world’s most remote destinations to help kick-start your journey toward simplified, cleaner photographs that capture the essence of our world.

This is a brilliant course which I can highly recommend. I have done some Minimalist photography but still found the lessons very interesting. I enjoyed the discussion on colour vs. B&W. My favourite part was to learn how long it takes to plan a shoot, wait for the right conditions, even change the subject if the initial idea doesn't work and see the other images taken during the shoot before (or after) the final image. The presentation is excellent - love the cat :-).
Truthfully I have never thought about minimalist photography but took this class out of curiosity. I am now "hooked" on the concept and can't wait to put into practice what I learned in this class. Curtis has an excellent teaching style and never once did I drift off through boredom or lack of interest. Buy this course, you won't be disappointed. Five full stars.
Great course. I would highly recommend it. I would liked to have seen more examples besides snow and desert scenes.
This is an excellent introduction to the concepts behind and practice of minimalist photography. While the setting is already somewhat minimalist, Curtis gives great general advice on how to create minimalist photos in any environment using timing, planning your shots, lens choice, and post-production techniques. I'm already a minimalism enthusiast, but I found some new-to-me explanations, ideas and exercises to help me along. Curtis' laid-back manner and unwillingness to take himself too seriously is also quite refreshing.
Really cool class! I wasn't keen on the bloopers at the end of each lesson as they were often somewhat jarring from the topic at hand, but Curtis's personality shone through. Some of the ideas will be harder to implement in my lush tropical landscape, so I lament that the majority of the examples were snow and deserts. I would have liked to see more variety, like cityscapes. Either way, I am looking forward to implementing some of the concepts.
Excellent course!
Excellent course!
Great class, good length and easy to follow along. A fantastic way to challenge yourself to look at composition differently and a course full of useful tips to try out.
I really enjoyed a new perspective on photography and of course, the outtakes. A charming presenter with helpful information.
Excellent course Curtis! This is a great reminder that colour and complexity can often be the very reason you're not nailing that great shot. I particularly enjoyed how you showed us that beautiful images are always there right in front of you, even in crappy weather!
Great Job! Great course! loved the bloopers, had a few laughs. I really enjoyed how he showed a little of how he worked the scene of a few of his images. showing multiple images and how he got to THE shot.
Superb! Excellent course. I really enjoyed it and learned so much as Curtis broke down the elements of minimalism. And the outtakes are class!
What a great class. Curtis is so knowledgeable and personable. Enjoyed it and learned alot. Highly recommend
A M A Z I N G class!. One of my favorite things Curtis does is he shows an average image, then shows how by changing composition you can make it so much stronger. 100% worth the time to watch this course. AND his images are BEAUTIFUL!
