Why Email is Crucial

Now we know how to set up a landing page for our business because we are going to be smart entrepreneurs and we're not going to think, I need a website that's very elaborate, that's going to take me months to make, or I need a demo video, or all these things that we think we need in order to launch our business and test our business, so we have our landing page. And the second step is to make sure we can collect email addresses from that landing page. And you could be wondering, well, isn't email dead? Maybe you've heard statistics or articles that are saying that email is not a place people hang out anymore. Why would I care about email? And, the thing is, I think email is still king. And here is why, because, when you are in your email inbox, it's distraction-free, meaning there are not other browser tabs you can be going to, you're not tempted by little dings and things coming to notify you in your browser. You are really focused. Of course, you could be jumping around to other emai...

ls, but it's a lot less distracting than being off on a website or something. So email is still king, but also a lot of people treat email like their life hub. I know this from doing a lot of research. We know that people like to use email as a to-do list, as a reminder system. People's habits around email usage are really interesting and bizarre. But, what you need to remember is that email still matters, which is why we want people's email address, because we need to be able to contact them and make our way into their inbox to stay top of mind and use it as our primary communication channel with them. So our goal is to get the email addresses, that's the step of validation we're at. We want email addresses, bottom line. And we need this because it allows us to stay in contact, do more research. Like we saw previously, you can slip in little questions, little research questions, into your emails you're sending people. It's also gonna help us build trust with people. We'll see examples of this. We could even use email to be testing or alluding to different ideas we have for the future, assuming that this idea that we have actually flies. And it's just great because it's not depending on a platform for our communication with our potential customers and users if, for some fantastic reason, Facebook ceased to exist or Twitter went under or Instagram didn't work anymore or something. We can still always make sure that we can contact them because we have their email. Of course, you should have multiple channels you're talking with people to, but that's why I think email is the golden method of communicating with people today.

I have taken several CreativeLive courses on how to start a business. This one has some of the best content and practical information on the "what" AND the "how" of validating your products. I highly recommend. The one thing I wish she would have gone into more depth on is how to find people for market research. She covers where to find them, but not enough detail about how to engage them. Even with that missing I would still highly recommend.
