As someone who has already established brand identity, etc., I still enjoyed this course and got a lot out of it. I would absolutely recommend it. I never heard of Debbie until today, but I love her perspective and realness on many of the topics discussed. Definitely worth listening to.
I loved this course and I would suggest it to anyone wanting to change career or looking for a job even if not in design. I got some interesting tips that I will keep forever such as you don't get a job, you WIN a job! Also, she gives some very important tips on how to win that job! Highly recommended!
I loved this course. Five Stars. I was initially drawn to this course because of the title. I had read Tom Peter's article (with the same name) in Fast Company magazine many years ago, and found it really inspiring. This was before 'brand' was a household word. Anyway, the course is geared more towards designers looking for their dream job than a typical branding course, but as it happens, I am a designer, so it was quite informative. I can also use much of the advice and lessons and apply them to my own business. From contacting potential employers or clients to creative self promotion, there's valuable lesson to be had. I watched and listened to this course in one day, almost straight through. I highly recommend it. Great insight, great advice - whether you're a design student or not. If you're the creative type, I think you'll find this both enlightening and very enjoyable.
Honestly, I expected more from Debbie. I do love her as a podcaster - her style and in-depth questioning and knowledge of her guests is always a "differentiator". But, this course, since I've been in branding and am a self-made entrepreneur for 28 years, was pretty general and mostly from the perspective of a designer. I didn't feel as though I learned anything otehr than I know what I know, and I pretty much know 95% of what Debbie was teaching. But, it certainly has value for some people. I did watch the entire thing..well, I listened, I didn't watch most of it.
Excellent insights about creative careers
Debbie is a remarkable speaker with a concise message for any profession. A gem of a course, every word.
Excellent perspective and advice throughout. . . and a very effective framing of what motivates and what it takes to make success happen.
This was a great class. It helps you to look deeper into your own motivations /reactions with others as well as guide you to find what makes your life remarkable.
Watched from beginning to end. Such an insightful look at an industry that has changed in so many ways but also remains the same. Teaching students what really matters in a digital world. Be yourself and keep trying. Don't give up and love what you do is what will bring success in the end. Thank you!
Wonderful speaker. I took a lot out of this course.
Debbie shares some extremely valuable tools for anyone who is looking to improve themselves - period. Not just for designers, not just for young students looking for their first job out of college, but for anyone who is serious about propelling themselves FORWARD in their work or career. These are basic concepts, but that doesn't make them obvious. They are ones that most people don't get taught in school or by their parents. In this way, they provide a fundamental leverage we all need to succeed.
B R I LLIANNNNNNT !!!! I love the such solid human being that she is and her grandiosity of holding our shoulder and say : go head! Dare to be your best self, own it. Here are some tips .... !!!! Uhuuuuuuuuu!! So inspiring! Thank you so much, Debbie. For couple of days you were my very BEST FRIEND :) Thanks Creative Live!! This is NOT a live "manual" on technical skills. If that is what you are looking for go some steps down and there are plenty of people teaching that, like traditional schools do. You will only learn what is "there" for you to learn if you are open TO HEAR with sincerity. Debbie tells several things that works and that doesn't in professional field besides showing what successful business look for in the people, or partners. Out standing!! I would love to watch another class with her.
I was so inspired listening to Debbie that between episodes I wrote an outline for a public speaking event centered around a personal story. Her presentation is about showing up, being passionate and being confident that what you have to say, is what people will want to hear because it's authentic.
If you are a professional who has worked for a Fortune 500 company, then yes this material is familiar. Even so, to see it pulled together and presented well is a wonderful review -- especially when changing jobs or transitioning careers.
Debbie Millman has put together in a very concise and clear way how to do, not just a job search, but really a self-search. To sell one's self you have to know yourself and be very clear about what you believe. Thanks for creating in a very meaningful way a clear path for all of us to get that dream job.
Thank you Debbie Millman for sharing all your experience and knowledge about branding and finding your dream job with us, what a gift!
This is a great class to listen to, to get re-inspired. I've been a designer for 16 years.. it helped me re-affirm why I do this, give me permission to create for myself again and after years of corporate goal setting telling me I need to be this way or that, gave me permission to be authentic. The class made me realize it's ok to have some people hate my work. I'll be working on creating what I want. I in CAPS. Hoping that someone, somewhere will love it too.
This was great! Currently thinking about making some moves with my career and this talk had all the answers I needed. Such great advice!
Appropriate for beginners. I'm long past the point of needing to be told 'clean yourself for an interview'.
This is really an exceptional course and should be standard issue for all recent design graduates. Debbie Millman outlines the expectations most employers will have of you as a job seeker and employee. It's much easier to learn these lessons from this course than in the School of Hard Knocks.
This is a no-nonsense overview of what you need to do to get to where you'd like to go in your creative career. Strategies and tactics delivered with sincerity and expertise, but don't expect a pep talk as much as a kick in the butt. Highly recommend to anyone looking to move forward in their career.
Now this is a wonderful course. Debbie Millman is absolutely inspirational, I really wish I could meet her in person. I notice myself waking up with more belief that I can achieve what I want and I am starting to form a plan in my head. Thank you for this class!
Lots of good advice, delivered sincerely. A wonderful course!
Excellent. Incredible grounded, insightful and specific advice--I found it valuable beyond the design career--these are life lessons applicable to all careers, any human being trying to influence and impact the world around them.
Inspiring and useful. So many take aways! Debbie Millman is brilliant!
