An empowered designer is a truly creative designer. Let designer, author, artist, and activist, James Victore show you how to trust your instinct and embrace imperfection in Bold & Fearless Design.
When you follow the trends your ideas stagnate and you don’t create the kind of memorable pieces that get you noticed. Victore knows the antidote to that creative rut. Victore has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and is represented in the permanent collections of museums worldwide. His commercial work continues to wow by being sexy, strong, and memorable.
Learn how you can make work that is captivating and uniquely you by taking a behind-the-scenes look at this renowned designer’s method, thinking, and inspiration. Victore will talk about playing with different tools (not just digital ones) and rethinking the role of a designer.
You’ll learn:
Poster design inspiration is the perfect blank canvas for experimentation. Posters can be adapted for anything from a book covers to dinner plates. In this class, the poster format provides a launching point for discussing by-hand design and reimagining creative possibilities.
Don’t be boring. Watch Bold & Fearless Design with James Victore and energize your unique creative spark.
Just so good! This courses reminded me of how the design actually works! Amazing course to reveal your creativity and confidence .:)
Best 24$ I have ever spent. James is a guide, helping to transform stale outdated creative mindsets into the realization that we all have the everything w e need. Just find brilliance in you. It exists in all of us. Yay James, Yay Me, Yay You!
James has tons of personality, and it seems to be that's what his career is about. His life philosophy and philosophy of work is all about having fun and being weird. I watched most of this, and at first was like 'YEAH this is so motivational, and I need to be braver and more far out'.. and then I remembered every single thing that I'VE learnt over the last 20 years and the fact that I hate cooper black, typography is awesome, and clean layout isn't a dirty thing. James, you are one of a kind, a real cool dude, but I don't think this class really TEACHES, because James's unique sauce belongs to him. The one excellent class takeaway is to be BE YOURSELF, and have more fun. That's something that James advises, but hardly something he can teach. I still recommend this class as an inspirational or motivational class to get you thinking outside the box again.
If you are looking for a "how to make..." class try something else. But, if you need that creative, motivational wake-up call, you will get it here. I understand how some people might find him off-putting but it's to his point that he's being himself, not trying to be something else. His approach will not work for everyone but it is refreshing. "Bold and Fearless" is about YOU being bold and fearless. Once you are, your design will be too.
The best part about this course aren't the tips and techniques, although they are fantastic. The real crux of the class, and why you should take it, is that he speaks to the how's of doing great work and, more importantly, how YOU fit into the equation, and why YOUR OPINION is the most important one of all. Overall, a terrific class!
He's a lot of fun to listen to. I don't like the way he calls female students "dear" and he takes a lot of detours. He lost me when he talks about the purpose of life being to find out why we're here. That's way off topic and how the hell does he know? I've tuned in on and off and can't seem to be there when there's real meat. And the course name needs to be changed.
I'm watching this live (for free) at the moment, I even managed to tune in shortly after the introduction :-) [this is my first free course I am checking out, after signing up for a newsletter at CreativeLive]... I really love this guy, I think he also aims to teach the young viewers in the audience a lot about the fundamental philosophy and ATTITUDE towards design, I know a lot of hypnosis and NLP teachers - and the way it's structured... i.e. teaching through story telling and useful metaphors + enticing, visual language - enough that, right now I can judge this guy for you, as having an extremely valuable message that will be great for you, if you're an amateur and soon-to-be artist and designer!!! A big thank you to CreativeLive as well, for creating this opportunity as well :) (Like I said, I am currently watching this segment live and through their 24/7 video stream). Can only recommend you check it out
I took this course with the hopes of learning how to create awesome posters. James Victore's approach to teaching was more inspirational. You know you already know how to create, he gave you the inspiration and motivation to succeed. If you're looking for a course thats going to give you step by step how to design and create and poster then this may not be for you. James Victore pushes you and inspires you to create from the heart. You can tell he's very passion it about what he does, if you're looking for a class that will inspire and motivate you then this is perfect for you.
Came to this course (and site) via Anna Dorfman's blog. Loved the motivational and philosophical aspects of the course. Very entertaining and inspirational. Also loved listening to Victore discuss his own work and process-- the stories of how he got specific ideas, tinkered with them, perfected them, etc.. As for the critiques of student and online work, I didn't find them very useful. I would love to see him pick out a few of the very best, and then give his own short and sweet-- and specific-- insights into how HE would improve them. Or just abandon the critiques entirely and instead show and discuss more of his own or other successful designers' work. Overall, fun and inspirational, with some helpful tips.
James Victore is awesome, more then teach design he taught about life. Even don't being there I felt that he gave me the support that I was needed for my career. I wish he had been my teacher in college, probably I would be more dedicated and inspired that days.
I loved this course! Exceeded every notion I had. The design, concepts and principles were fun, funny and insightful. But James went so far beyond the "poster design" and into the philosophy, thinking, inspiration - huge! I am so glad I watched this course not only for the quick wit and fast humor (Jame's is smart! Sharp... And Really Funny - compliments his teaching and design), but the reading list he suggests, ways to nudge your creativity and the fashion with which he gets you thinking... Invaluable! Organic, Rich, Impact and message - this course has the design "how-to" covered, the real pearls are Jame's humble experience and generosity. Great Course... Oh, and check out his book! "Victore! or, Who Died and Made You Boss?" Inspiration and fun!
I am not a graphic designer, I'm an artist, but this class translates beautifully. James' teaching style is nothing short of delicious - fresh, alive, fun, exciting - while being full of depth and poignant, valuable content, much of which transcends medium and brings value to any creative individual. I found particular value in the lessons around tools (and altering tools), the criteria for good work, the need to infuse your opinion into your work, the value of abandoning perfection, paying attention to cancer that is one's ego and that we are meant to be creators, and not 'the help'. More than anything else though, I benefited from being reminded, with such a burning passion, that we are not put on this earth to pay a mortgage and support a family, but to identify our true work and to bring it into existence in this world. So nice to reminded of something I know but forget on a regular basis. One of the best online classes I have ever taken - a real home run.
5 stars hands down. I found this course accidentally. I was procrastinating on FB then saw Chase Jarvis post a link to the live class. I clicked through and was immediately hooked! James's passion, energy and enthusiasm was infectious. Listening to him whilst working my concept of myself as a designer shifted multiple times. He's a massive proponent of stepping out of the computer and creating with your hands. That was the exact lament I was having. I felt I was trapped behind the computer all day and over several months had a yearning to create something with brush, inks and colour. I never did due to fear of imperfections, yet it was James who preached that imperfections are what make something great. And my life has never been the same :) You wouldn't believe it that today I got a commission to paint a mural, based on some typographic posters I made on the computer a while back. Anyway, awesome course, I'm going to play it on loop again and again as I work, I love this guy, I can't wait to meet him one day.
Need an inspirational kick-in-the-pants? This is it. Beyond simply just a course on poster making, Victore reminded me of the power within, the idea of pealing your own layers to find the personal and uniquely creative voice we all have within us. It's hard work, but it's damn fun work, and he uses his experiences and learnings to focus us in, to make things clear. This was not only a great course, it was a brilliant and refreshing experience – a meditation on idea making and marking.
Ever sign up for an online course and fall asleep? Well James Victore is the cup of coffee you need to ignite your spirit into generating more authentic and bold posters! "Ideas are Dangerous" or "Kill the Critic" are gems peppered through hilarious humor and insights! I signed up for an online course for a degree program in an accredited college and it was sooo boring compared to James Victore wonderful dynamic artistic performance. I would love to meet this guy!
