Filming Families: The Modern Family Video
Courtney Holmes
an immersion into envisioning, shooting, and producing films.
Is there an idea for an incredible film banging on the walls of your brain and begging to come out? If so, join Film Riot founder Ryan Connolly for an immersion into envisioning, shooting, and producing films – with any gear on any budget.
In this course, you’ll explore the step-by-step process of making a film from start to finish. You’ll learn how to script, storyboard, location scout, and cast films. Ryan will offer insights on how to best work with your crew to make your sets fun, collaborative, and professional places to be. Ryan will demonstrate the process of getting the light you want for the shots you’ll need, whether you’re working with DIY lighting structures, available light, or gels and diffusion. Since lighting and sound are equally essential to professional-level work, you’ll also explore both production and post-production audio skills, including integrating music and sound effects. You’ll build a post-production workflow for editing, adding visual effects, and more to ensure you’re getting the pro look every time.
Whether you’re a first time filmmaker or a working professional ready to sharpen up your skills, this course will give you the tools you need to create superior quality films that reflect your unique vision as an artist.
I bought this course some years ago when i was a newbie and I learnt so much, but at least once a year I watch it again cause is so inspirational and every time I discover something new. It's the best money spent in a creative course.
well .. amazing and good
Took this class purely out of curiosity, as I have no ambitions to become a filmmaker. I enjoyed it and learned a lot. It's very informative and also fun. Loved Ryan's sense of humour. The C-stand "accident" and the jokes that followed were hilarious - "there is no spoon" :)... wholeheartedly recommended!
tengo una duda. este curso se puede ver en español?
Yeeeez! Josh maan! Slow down. You are speaking fast. Almost impossible to understand.
Man, kind of makes me sad, just spent the last 3 years and a couple of thousand dollars in film school for all this to be taught subpar. A tiny investment here and my understanding is much much better. I love you Ryan Connolly. Film Riot year 1 subscriber :)
Amazing class! It's awesome to see a full behind the scenes look of things as they happen. Ryan & crew are very informative and always a blast to watch. You can tell they give a shit. Will absolutely recommend.
This class was awesome! I'm going to study filmmaking in college on January. You guys have such humor and great skills, which will help me to learn of how to become a successful filmmaker. :)
IF YOU ARE HESITATING WHETHER TO BUY THIS COURSE OR NOT: Short answer: If it was on sale 50% or more, go for it if you are a newbie to filmmaking. Long answer: Do not buy the course full price if you are struggling financially, it really doesn't worth that much. This course won't serve you much if you've already attended film school or at least made your own film. Over the course, You will find yourselves skipping through the material a lot, jumping the play head to parts you wanted to see rather than wasting your focus on watching people working on mundane stuff (e.g. moving the camera from shoulder to tripod, moving lights, etc) for almost half of the time of each episode, that's why each episode/ topic is 20 - 30 minutes long without any depth into the topic. Ryan covered a variety of topics, but very superficially. That said, I still appreciate Ryan's effort to direct stuff as fast as possible.
Great Class Ryan, Keep Up the Good Work!
Love this guy's work and advice. Wish I could have attended this live, but catching it offline has been a godsend. Thanks CreativeLive and Ryan!
Love Ryan and everyone at Film Riot. Excellent course of the excellent quality I've come to expect from them. I just wIsh he'd act more. So funny.
I have learn't a lot from Ryan/Film Riot. and this has helped me develop my youtube channel, which although is a food channel, I do a lot VFX work... Great course. Very useful.
I bet this class will be awesome. the course is given by Ryan Connolly!! I have been watching this guy for more that 5 years. I just wasn't serous about film making then. but now since i love film making why not try to be one of them by learning form the best in the field like Rayn. he has been inspiration for a lot of film maker from his YouTube channel Film Riot. his way of teaching so funny and entertaining . I bought this course to learn Ryan Connolly's killer skill. Thanks creative live and Ryan Connolly!
Jumping on the bandwagon a bit late, but I watch Film Riot since 2013 and they are the reason I'm doing filmmaking today because they showed me that I could do all of it myself. Definitely a great course and their show is amazing too!! MUCH LOVE!!!
Great class! It starts at a very simplistic level and covers the full spectrum of filmmaking. I would not necessarily buy this course for advanced film students, however it is an amazing review for beginner students to intermediate students. I would love to see a BTS of a short film from start to finish. I've seen all of Ryan's BTS shorts and I would greatly enjoy a much more intricate play by play of the short. THAT"S SOMETHING I WOULD PAY A LOT TO SEE. An 18 hour compilation of prepro - post of a short would be awesome.
Ryan gives a wonderful overview of the filmmaking process that gives you what you need to move forward and also helps you to understand what you don't know so you can research effectively.
I did this course and at the end i can strongly say that if you wanna be a film maker then you can not afford to live without having this course.
Just amazing. If you follow Film Riot / Triune Films and you want to see the real-time on set experience, this class is for you :)
Filmriot team, you rock!! I admit that I love you guys. Hope to see you again on creativelive.
I'd pay far more than the $100 I paid. I am sad I missed you guys while you were in Seattle. Next time, beers are on me. I've loved the show since day one and watched you progress into seriously talented filmmakers. Seth
Funny, entertaining and very deep into filmmaking. Thank you for all <3
All i can say is that Ryan and all the film riot crew is the best crew out there making the best tutorials ever...this blows my mind...
This is easily the best $100+ I've ever spent. My work from watching this course has escalated in quality so much. Even after just a few weeks. Ryan not only explains how to do things, but also why he is doing them. It's basically a no BS 18-hour summary of their Film Riot channel (but don't get me wrong, the BS is the best part XD)
It was intersting for me! Thanks men!
