Use light to make your night photography stand out
Short on time? This class is available HERE as a Fast Class, exclusively for CreativeLive subscribers.
Shooting at night can create dynamic landscapes or portraits through long exposures. By using a wide range of tools, you can add light to your night photographs to create dynamic highlights or unique shapes. Painting with light opens a door into night photography that will keep you out until the wee hours of the morning. Tim Cooper is the author of The Magic of Painting with Light and in this course, you’ll learn:
Like it so far. Very informative and easy to follow, even for a foreigner like myself (Netherlands). The only thing I wonder about so far is... does it always rain in Seattle? And how does that affect your work and photos? Anyway, great course, like it a lot! Gert Klay
Really enjoyable course. Clear instruction and surprisingly easy to put what I learnt into practice, which I did for the first time last night. This is also my first exposure to Photoshop, which initially put me off buying the course. However, Tim is a great instructor and explains his approach very clearly, so as well as an introduction to light painting it's a great introduction to what Photoshop can do.
This was a FANTASTIC tutorial.... FULL of info and VERY EASY to follow... I have been a self taught user (mainly through YouTube videos) of Photoshop and Lightroom for several years now... I consider myself an upper intermediate user of both platforms... I can get around and do most anything, but usually very time consuming with experimentation. I have recently gotten into this light painting stuff and am really hooked... This tutorial by TIM was WELL WORTH the cost of the night photography bundle I purchased fro Creativelive.... again... very easy to follow and very informative... Not only did I learn a LOT of valuable light painting instruction, I also got some new Photoshop and lightroom instruction I did NOT know before.... thanks again... Looking g forward to getting more tutorials in the near future.... Dave
GREAT Class! You should buy it!
Tim is an outstanding teacher - I love his style, thorough and basic without being too elementary or condescending. I will be looking for other classes by Tim in the future. I'm am excited to apply the things I have learned from Tim and create my own style from the tools he has given. I never would have give much thought to light painting in the past. I have already notice a change in the way I scout my shots, now that I have added light painting into my tool box. Thanks for sharing your experience with the world Tim. Gene
Tim showed several examples in the field of light painting structures outside such as concrete or pipes. He walked us through his set up process during the day. He showed how some of the process is guess work and I appreciated seeing what he though didn't turn out right and how he redid the exposure by using his flashlight in a slightly different way the next time. Having tried this myself, I know it is tricky. But what impressed me the most was actually his Lightroom tutorial. He did an amazing job. I have watched Lesa Snyder and Ben Willmore, but Tim is so much better! He very methodically walked through his steps in LR, carefully showing which buttons he pressed and what each one did. He go through his developing steps too quickly and he didn't ramble about extraneous stuff. I really learned more from him than anyone else about LR. He should do a class on it. It isn't easy to teach and is so easy to be too confusing or too boring.
One of the best courses I've ever taken on Creative Live. Jam packed with useful information. Very inspiring!
The BEST class ever! Learned so much--Tim is a great instructor. I highly recommend to the creative photog looking to expand his/her arsenal of tools, talents and products. Appreciated the patience and thoroughness that Tim offered students. Great pacing and information. I can see how I can very easily take his instruction out at night and produce something. I also appreciate that this session demonstrated images that weren't created in total darkness.
