The Art of Seeing: Macro Techniques for Flowers and Plants with Frans Lanting

Excellent class for beginners of Macro Flower Photography. I especially enjoyed how in depth the video was working directly with the two students. Flashing back and forth to the actual photos taken to see the individual changes. I was so inspired I went out and recreated the make shift photo studio/lab the students were using at the end.

What a fabulous course. I have all three of Frans Lanting's classes on creative live and they are the best. I have purchased dozens of classes by other photographers and honestly, these are the ones that never grow old and I always come back to. So grateful he took us into his studio at the end. Fascinating to see how the pros set up their studios. His soft spoken manner makes me eager to hear more. He is simply the best.

Thanks to lockdown, I have come across this video among others by Frans and finally got to meet Frans on video. I knew Frans from his NG photography on orang utan and rafflesia in Borneo. I am now hoping to try out his techniques to use reflector/diffusor on rafflesia flowers among others and telephoto lens to isolate flowers and orchids, use other accessories like clamp, outdoor loupe, lensbaby, softbox and more. I learned so much and highly recommend this most practical lessons both in the field and classroom.

This class was exceptional! Frans was an excellent teacher and covered even more than I expected! I think I learned everything I needed to learn to get started. I also l found his critique during and the class and at the end super helpful. I would definitely recommend this class!

I feel quite bored watching this class. I It was too simplistic and the teacher spent way to much time on each image. I didn't learn anything new.

This is an excellent course. Frans Lanting is an excellent instructor. His voice and approach are very supportive and calming. I highly recommend this class to anyone interested in macro photography. Personally, I learned a lot.

I absolutely loved this class. ( 5th class on CL) Frans really makes this a true show and tell. You get a chance to see the whole process start to finish. Unlike some of the other instructors Frans is not here to just showcase his own work. He really shows you his students working their way through the macro photography process. This is incredibly useful. I also love that he wants the experience to be fun and creative for his students. I learned a lot from this class and he is one of my favorite instructors here.

Lots of examples and in-depth explanation of editing in Lightroom. I highly recommend this class and look forward to watching more of his classes.

Frans is one of my favorite instructors. His passion is infectious. I've learned so much from his classes at CreativeLive. I have a long way to go, but see real growth in my photography after every class....especially Frans'!

Frans Lanting is without question one of the best photography instructors ever. I have a degree in photography and none of my instructors who were great in their own right can hold a candle to Frans. Not only does he provide you with the techniques needed for great images but he tries to instill in his students his passion for his art. Another incredible class, thanks Frans.

Ive been studying macro photography for a couple years now and thought I understood how to get what I wanted out of the photo. This class gave me another perspective and different approach so your shoot has options that may look different on screen than on the camera. Lantz's approach in this class is a bit more laid back than Ive seen him teach, however this format of photography takes a more laid back approach. I love how he started out with a basic inexpensive set up and also introduced the high end magazine photo shoot set up, and the inbetween. All depends on how much you want to put into it. His work flow also taught me a lot on approach and expectations.. As always, his class teaches appreciation of the world around us and how cconservation of plants is also important. (different plants attract different birds) as always, this class was VERY valuable and if you want to try macro, this will get you well on your way. Thanks again Frans and All at CL

I will be taking a trip to our Botanical Center soon and am looking forward to using what I learned here!

I have taken many photography classes. Frans is one of the best instructors I have watch. He is truly inspiring. I want to run out and use the techniques I have learned. Not only would I recommend the class, I would be thrilled to participate in a workshop. Well done.

Did not catch the infirmation on how to layer exposures although results were shown. Did I miss it? Very inspirational and cannot wait to try some new techniques.

The approach Frans takes to photography is both humane and inspiring. Lots of practical hands-on advice paired with his philosophy on the why we should capture nature and the role of the photographer and nature conservation.

If a student had sufficient background, this course was a gem. I took away many excellent concepts, including specific techniques for shooting flowers that were new to me, as well as a different philosophical approach. Using the students was an excellent vehicle for teaching this subject as I could relate and absorb from past experience. The section on indoor setups, by itself, was worth the price of the course.

I am really impressed the way the subject is dealt with and explained, the techniques to handle the time and subject, wonderful and easy to understand. Inspiring too

This course is not only informative and inspiring, it’s a delight to watch. Franz infuses every segment with so much grace, intelligence and wonder you cannot help but catch his passion for plants and photography.

Great class on improving macro photography techniques, well structured and in easy to understand way, lots of practical tips with live demonstration.. Frank methodology of teaching is superb.

i signed up for the live showing of this video before purchasing the tapes but the transmission was faulty and I didn't get a good idea of what the lessons were. was that done deliberately so we'd just buy the video?
