Great class! Lisa Carney is an entertaining presenter who knows what she's talking about. I learned a lot and enjoyed it.
This is the first thing I've seen on retouching, and I have had to come back several times but it's nice to have a whole definitive process in one place. Lot of info and skills in here to hone.
I had never done any retouching before so it was so great to get a definitive process on how to do it. Whole bunch of new tricks in the ol' toolkit now :-D
If you were like me and had no idea on where to start and feared that the editing process would be too destructive and would have to start all over again if the client didn't like your completed work - then this is the class for you. I watch this class often for review and to make sure that I maintain these good habits Lisa suggests to do. If you follow all of her helpful commentary on her how's and why's you will end up in a far better place when that time comes that you have to re-edit your edit. I cannot say enough great things about her work flow and how it not only enhanced my images to the result I was looking for but also decreased my editing time(bonus!!!!). I also on a whim sent her a email through her personal site and she replied with a massive helpful technique for enhancing freckles on a job I was working on. She is amazing! She is a true teacher who is there to show you how to use photoshop for you to find and gain your own editing style. Far too often i find myself in retouching classes that only demonstrate how to make your images look like who is teaching the class... Workflow and Style are very different, you can have the same workflow but your style is determined by your taste. Her workflow is solid and delivers time and time again. This class should be in everyone's dashboard hands down.
Lisa's energy, industry experience, and depth of knowledge of Photoshop are very impressive. I enjoyed how she taught multiple ways to approach retouching issues. As someone who has worked with Photoshop for several years, I learned quite a bit. This was definitely worth the price.
Absolutely love this lady's style. She teaches the timeless mechanics of ever-evolving Photoshop for future reference, not a step-by-step series of instructions that probably won't work on your particular image. Hugely appreciate her emphasis on real-life workflow and time management issues. It's invaluable reference for a production environment. And don't get me started on her wisdom about billing!
Finally someone that I can follow and not fall asleep to....Lisa's presentation style is great and very energetic and at a pace that you don't get bored with...
Ratta-Tat-Tat WONDERFUL. 8 gazillion great things with off beat Marx Bros Humor Not for beginners, I'd say
Not for the faint of heart.....and yes there will be homework. I was bit reluctant to take this course with some of the negative reviews, but I took a shot and have to say it is one of my favorite CL classes so far. This was an opportunity to spend time with a seasoned veteran who shared the way she approaches and thinks about retouching. This is WAY more important that going over every detail. There were some things I was not all that familiar with....adjustment layers, luminosity masks, and more...and I think it made sense to not go over these in great detail in the class, and had you go learn this on your own. Instead the focus was her professional perspective on retouching and understanding that there were many ways to achieve the same result, and you would have to develop your own style and choices. But getting an overview, and an ordered way to proceed from a seasoned pro was incredibly valuable. So this worked for me, and highly recommend for those comfortable with having to stop and do a little "on your own" research, and then come back and proceed. If you expect every detail explained within the class then maybe this is not the one for you. My skills and approach to retouching are simply on another level because of this class and I've already signed up for another one of her courses. Thanks Lisa......
Lisa did a great job, most of what she taught are things I've picked up from other places (many other places) so it was nice to see it all presented in one setting. She taught me a few new tips and methods I put in my toolbox. I've mostly been self taught at Photoshop through the years so I'm always adjusting and growing in the way I edit. This was kind of a confirmation that's I've been on the right track. Lisa's teaching style is a little haphazard but I was able to follow it pretty well... I wouldn't have finished the course if it were live however.
I would recommend this class for people who have at least some photoshop/editing experience. As someone who's been photographing and retouching for years I found this class to be very useful. I like the pace and structure. I'm the kind of person who has to apply what I've learned in order to solidify it so I would watch a few segments then jump into photoshop to apply them. Lisa does tend to talk fast and will breeze through the demonstrations, so if don't already have some experience and understanding of what she's doing it can be difficult to follow. But if you're looking to streamline your workflow and get more of a handle on photoshop I'd definitely recommend this course.
i ilove the insight she provides, the knowledge she shares and the fast forward going.. one of the best teachers for me. love her work and the classes
Lisa is wonderful - great at explaining things and giving real-life examples of when she would use certain techniques. I love her classes, including this one.
Very detailed introduction to retouching. Instruction is quite fast so you really need the class so you can revise sections and come to a better understanding. Highly recommended.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class. Although Lisa goes a little fast, and I got lost towards the end, you can always replay the video as many times as you like so this is not really a problem. It is jam packed with lots of information and techniques, and she includes lots of tips on "what not to do". Well worth my time and money.
Lisa is an amazing teacher! I could listen to her for hours since her style is so engaging. The class is a great overview on how to do portrait retouching. It is an advance class, so you should have some photoshop background. I am mainly a landscape photographer but needed to to figure out how to do a passable job at portrait retouching for a college class that I am taking. Thanks so much Lisa for saving me!
I see some people did not enjoy Lisa's style. I love her teaching style! I really like that she goes where the flow of the lesson takes her. I did not find that to be a distraction at all, but found the times she went on an excursion from the notes it was always beneficial. I almost skipped come chapters thinking I already understood the topic, but I found that even when I was pretty strong on a topic, I always learned something helpful. Lisa's focus on real world workflow, and how to be productive with your efforts makes more than a "click this button" class. I give Lisa 5 stars as an instructor.
Painful to watch. I should have paid more attention to the negative reviews.
I love Lisa's courses! She starts from the basics so less experienced students could not be disappointing and then go to advanced techniques. I found a lot of new things for myself in this course
I was really worried to buy this based on the previous reviews, but it was on sale and I liked her other class I bought. I learned so much! It is fast- very fast, but there is a ton there. As fast as she goes though the steps are there. I opened a picture and would mimic what she was showing and it flowed very easily. It is very much a class that I will have to rewatch segments and practice but the information is amazing.
This is a brilliant and comprehensive masterclass. Lisa is clearly at the peak of her game, but she takes sufficient pause to bring (nearly) newbies on board at the right moments. It's definitely NOT a course for photoshop beginners, nor for those just a little above that level. However, the target audience tip was in the title. Anyone who dissed this course because it went too fast, or presumed too much prior knowledge has no right to comment. Here's my tip for people like me who are somewhere in the lower middle of the ability curve: grab the included notes and print them out. Make sure you have a blank page opposite each printed one for note-taking. Then follow along as though you were a member of the live audience; but know that you have the luxury of being able to pause and write DETAILED notes of your own. This way, you can fill in the gaps in your own knowledge as she 'thinks aloud'. Lisa is especially excellent when she is recalling her own early mistakes and their remedies. For me, the take-home from this whole series was 'Stop, step back from the computer: NOW, which layer am I working on? Am I on the mask, the paint layer, the grey layer???" This is personally where I screw up all the time. I think in aviation and in general military jargon, it's know as 'situational awareness'. Photoshop can't tell you when your brain has overreached its cognitive capacity. So you must remind yourself to re-orientate. She teaches the 'mechanics' of Photoshop and acknowledges the subjectivity of retouching (in the context of practical considerations- foremost of which being the clients' budget). I think that the rest is down to experience (especially true for painting and shading). We all have to practice, practice, practice. You can lead a horse to water, blah blah.. She makes me wanna spend my time working at this game. And that makes her an inspirational and excellent teacher. I can't recommend this course enough.
It was easy to understand her explanation even if i'm a foreigner (subtitles helped a lot!) and I liked her way of teaching, professional and funny.
Brilliant retoucher and brilliant teacher! easy to understand and well presented class! Thank you Lisa!
IT was just what I was looking for. An intermediate editor like myself can get some great tips and work flow information here. The advanced editor may not. Very helpful for me.
I like this training very much. Good tips, great humor. Good pace
