  • All new crafting for me. Loved it. Great tips and advice!

  • This was a really fun class. I’ve made a few concertina books in the past, but I’ve never added other elements like pop-ups and inserted tabs. I got lots of ideas for new things to try, and a really good demonstration of the basics. I especially appreciated the discussion of all the alternatives - things like different kinds of adhesives, and when you might use each one.

  • This class is a very basic class on making your first quilt out of square blocks. And on tieing a quilt. It is good on that level. She didn't go into much detail about how to work with different fabrics, advantages and disadvantages and different applications for say using jeans vs. linens vs. cotton. Or how to combine them so it does work. I did like that she wasn't from the quilting police and really encouraged us to try things. And to get stuff from Thrift stores, yards sales, etc.

  • I have been sewing for about 55 years and have made a few quilts. This class was better than I expected, in that it got me thinking about how I can use fabric scraps, fabric from my stash, and designer swatches I got from Fabmo in Sunnyvale!! The teacher had good ideas that you may not find in more traditional quilting classes. So not so perfectionistic and limiting. GO for it!

  • This was a fun course with lots of incorporated techniques and examples. Molly is a terrific teacher!

  • This is such a fun project, can't wait to try it all out! I love Molly's calm and professional manner and upbeat approach to teaching as well.

  • I really liked this class! What I was wanting to learn is how to do photo transfers and I learned that and more. It was neat to see how stamps can be incorporated into the project. My 8-year-old son jumped in as I watched and now wants to give this type of project a try too. Perfect for our new homeschool life.

  • Fun and easy to understand. She paced just perfect as well. Bravo!

  • Really good class. Can't wait to try it out.

Altered Books: Book Boxes with Molly Meng

Simple to follow directions shown on video, thanks Molly Meng.

  • I really loved this course. So many creative ideas that sparked my imagination. Molly's instructions are really clear, and I loved that things didn't need to be perfect to work well. I applied what I learned immediately to make a concertina book for a friend's 50th birthday. I'll definitely be doing more of these. A great way to make gifts or use for your own memorabilia.

  • Blair has a very clear voice and takes us through the projects in a very calm and clear way. The projects are inspiring and just the general idea of crafting with materials found at thrift stores really appeals to me so definitely recommend this lovely little class.

  • Molly Meng had very clear directions on how to make a box; her making a box made these directions easier to understand through the video. I also appreciated her impreciseness - it made the process fun.

  • Molly Meng has a fabulous teaching technique! She explains what she is doing as she makes the book. Her style is simple which made something I was afraid to try very doable! I have already come up with ideas and my technique has been refined for other projects as well by her visual demonstration and experience.

  • I just love learning new ideas for craft projects. I wish I had known about this when I ruined all those wool sweaters in the wash. I could have made felted flowers. The reason I wanted to watch initially was to learn how to unravel sweaters to save money on yarn.

  • I've taken both of Stephenie Hamen's classes on Creative Live. She's a great teacher, and I thoroughly enjoyed the class.

  • Very clear step-by-step directions. Basic materials most people will have around the house. Shows basic boxes to more complex boxes. Pretty and fun to do.

  • I'm a self taught sewer. I've been sewing for years and wanted to try quilting. A family member asked me to make some memory quilts for her siblings, with their father's t-shirts who recently passed away. I of course made them before I saw this course available. I quilted the top & batting together (stitch in the ditch style) then used a minky back that I wrapped around the sides as it's binding. Now that I've seen this entire workshop, I realized I should have used a few more techniques to make it more stable to the backing. I learned a lot of things in this workshop! I would highly recommend this to others interested in quilting. I didn't find the camera angles annoying at all. I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and look forward to making even more quilts! Thank you!

  • thank you thank you! i have sooo many greeting cards that i can't bear to throw away...now i don't have to! great ideas and easy to follow.

  • I love the clear step by step directions. I also love the fact that she uses pretty basic tools and materials. The possibilities for creating some very unique book boxes all start here!

  • I like the class overall and it was nice to see a process with easy to find materials. It would be very useful for the students taking the class to have a list of materials needed. Clear Gesso, Decoupage and matte medium were mentioned... but which ones specifically and what brands? Also, I didn't see the use of watercolors (only gelatos). I wanted to see watercolors being used as mentioned in the class info.

  • I am looking for alternative creative projects to expand my creativity. Molly's class is very well done. She presents quite a few ways to enhance the collage effect of the books and goes through step by step instructing as the class moves along. I would recommend this to others interested in expanding their collage techniques.

  • I learned so many things by watching this class that I always wanted to know. Molly gives great detailed instructions and fascinating suggestions for what you can do with these boxes. I got the sense that she is incredibly excited about doing this and it makes me want to do it to. It sparked a lot of ideas for me even though I doubt I will do exactly what she demonstrates.

  • Disappointing!! This is such a basic course with the instructor having less knowledge on the tools, materials and all pertinent information that would make it a tutorial that I would purchase. The instructor has surely taken "her" time meddling deconstructing and putting things together for minutes as if she has not much to talk about with awfully long .... gaps of silence and at one point commenting on " Well, this can be done if you give me 30 minutes!" ( Putting a bead through a jump ring! ). She does not seem to have a "better" system on putting this on without fuss that I and perhaps the students may know! I suggest that if Ms. Blair has had it prepared to get the beads she needed, do a research in youtube and really know beyond whats presented then it would sell. The students seems to even suggest and identify the materials for her ! Her tentative use of words and even contrasting themselves made it more confusing to follow along! Example , " Let's now do this .. You can do this ... but you don't have to" , "Let's use this ...but you don't have to" ..."Where is? ... I forgot to bring it ... then proceeded to do it anyways". and MORE :( I suggest that Creativelive would screen their instructors thoroughly and not based it on just a book somebody authored etc. Experience is MORE RELEVANT and the ability to convey a thorough knowledge and burning passion of what their teaching. I really want to learn more about Beaded Jewelry and Creating Clasp etc... I am sure there are a lot out there! Amazon book best sellers with high commendations from their reviews and YouTube. Keep up the great work! Creativelive !!! I am a fan.

  • I am watching the class on Demand so I haven't finished it yet. So far I'm enjoying the class and learning a lot. When this class is finished, I know the confidence will be there to complete a quilt on my own. A couple of issues. The camera angles weren't good for me. Her head was in the way in a lot of the overhead shots and if she was pointing at the sewing machine her hand would be in the way.
