Having an Online Following Behind You

The next thing I want to talk about is growing your online following this is not essential you don't have to have a huge online following behind you in order to become successful but I wanted to at least touch on it because it will help and if you're early on in your career it's something that you can start focusing on today that will help so first just pick a few that you enjoy there are so many social media outlets and it can really feel like we should be doing all of them and a lot of times it can be overwhelming especially when you're trying you're an artist or creative of sometimes of some type and you feel like all of your playtime is getting taken up by social media and that kind of thing so if you don't resonate with one um I want to give you permission to not do it don't force yourself to participate on facebook if you don't really care for it or instagram or what whatever it is um I think that your followers will pick up on that and be able to tell that this is not something ...

that you're really enjoying so pick a few that you really enjoy you feel like you're connecting and engaging on and start with those um I'm speaking about this because I think the greater your online following the more attractive you're going to be to your target person that is because a couple of reasons for one you already have a built in audience that you are going to be opening up this new company or any person too so that's appealing from their perspective because they're going to gain access to people that may not know about them already another reason why this is beneficial is uh that if it's obvious that people already love what you do then it's kind of serves as extra credibility lets them know that hey people are loving this maybe they'd love it on this application as well starting from zero we all have to do it I know it's super overwhelming it's hard it's feels daunting to start a new account and start a zero and it's painfully slow it just is right I mean and we've all done this but I just want to confirmed that it is hard we all have to start from zero but it gets easier as you go so maybe your first five hundred people are going to be your toughest tio get at some point the ball starts to roll though and your brand starts getting noticed and picked up and it just is where it's just worth it so um consistency is another huge key here, so please don't get discouraged by low numbers or anything like that consistency is your absolute best friend shares something every single day share your process share share what you're doing and they will cut your people will come another thing I want to discuss his authenticity so there are a lot of ways to get followers quickly online and I just don't think that it resonates well with your your brand you want authentic followers who truly connect with you and want to follow what you're doing and you also want your voice to be authentic and this will register throughout your social media al it's especially if you enjoy them being authentic is going toe is going to bring your people to you and really help them resonate with what you're doing uh reward your people so I think this is super fund you can think of a ton of ways to reward your people but let them know that you're grateful that that they have taken interest in what you're doing give them freebies, coupon codes or you know, fun just fun things like that to let them know that you're thinking about them I liked to do giveaways just things like that to really connect us and make it fun. So connected engage um definitely you don't have to comment back on every on every comment on instagram and twitter and facebook but when it's appropriate make sure to engage your people and your followers and they will really enjoy getting to know you from a behind the scenes perspective that on those sites often give you and then style izing and branding uh, I don't wantto put too much emphasis on this, but there is a place for keeping a cohesive look and a consistent style to your social media outlets especially like instagram. It can be easy, tio kind of post things that are all over the board, but if you have a mission with your social media sites, you should always ask yourself if this photograph that you're sharing or your update your sharing doesn't relate doesn't add value. Of course, sometimes we'll just post a pretty picture of a lot because it's fun but the majority of your your photos should serve a purpose and also align with your brand visually, so this is kind of your homework. I want you to write a list of social media outlets that you enjoy using now write a list of the social media outlets that you already get engagement on and then whatever's on both lists you khun start with those really focusing on them. Another way to say that would be too list the social media outlets that you're on and then rearrange them in the ones that you get the most engagement on first and stop start with the first two or three and really focus on those and growing your followers there, so for me, um instagram is where I like to communicate and engage um facebook would be neck s and twitter might be third because I don't. You'll be able to tell if you go look at mine, that I don't. Something about twitter doesn't get me excited, but, you know, we're there and it's fun, but instagram, I feel like I come to life on so, but there could be totally different freed.
