This class has been a wonderful little creativity booster for someone like me, who enjoys creating, but spends far too much of their day working in a non-creative field. It's enticed me most days to put down the phone, close out that browser, and REALLY take a mental break from the grind to do a silly little project that makes you feel less stressed.
So, being a bit in a void with my creative thinking, I believe that this class is a cool tool to get back to observing life around you and start creating. It changed my way of looking at people and things and making me more secure about what I can do with what I see or hear or feel. Also, I believe that sticking to this program for 28 days (and then perhaps another 28 days with your own creative assignments) really will bring you into a habit of creating more, and more strategically. So, I want to thank you all for this. It looks perhaps a bit childish, and indeed, repetition is a bit sad, but for changing your creative mind and view on things, this is great!
While I found several of these creative challenges to be interesting and fun - there were more than a few that seemed a little pointless and some that were repeated more than once, so there's really only 21 assignments. This was not entirely clear going into the challenge - but still for $5 this is a good value.
I have to say, I am the quintessential, talentless knob. I'm over 60 and spent my life knowing I couldn't draw a straight line, circle or sign my name the same way twice. Since retiring I have decided to find a way to develop "artistry skills" somewhere, anywhere!! So I spend a lot of time and have a lot of fun on Creative Live. When I saw the class I thought it would be helpful, so I took the first couple of classes and thought, well this is stupid. It's like a kindergarten class from 50 years ago. I'm not 5 and this is useless for an adult, but, I stuck with it a few more times in the spirit, "I don't know how to be 'artsy', so I probably wouldn't know a good 'artsy class' if it bit me on the behind". The more of these classes I watched, the more it struck me, one of my problems is I not only don't know "how" to do things, I don't know how to "think" about doing things. In the end, this set of exercises was delightful in getting me thinking "creatively", trying new things and developing skills that I never had or were so poor I never thought to try using them. Don't get me wrong, I'm still horrible and these classes do little to teach you "how" to do things, but they are an excellent way to get your mind moving in directions you need to go. You can definitely progress into previously uncharted waters by enduring this class until the end. I also recommend the Photo Challenge Contest they have for free. It will get you thinking before you snap off more bland, blah cell phone photos. Good job Creative Live and thanks.
I absolutely loved this class. I was in such a creative slump, and the challenges were small and accessible which made it really easy to participate. It didn't require any fancy tools or a high level of skill, it was just simple and fun.
I found this class really helpful. Some days it was harder than others to keep it going. But, it's been a couple months since completing the 28 days and I'm still feeling motivated to keep the process going.
This course is such a gift! You'll want to keep these prompts for the future, not just the 28 days of this FREE course! There are some repeats in there and a few 'rest days' but, I have no complaints as there's something to be said for taking a breather. Also, I really love the instructors in this course. There are several, so that keeps things interesting. They're quirky, authentic and inspiring, all while encouraging exploration and silliness, which is something all creatives can be reminded of from time to time. There's no reason NOT to do this class.
I was looking for a way to get back into the habit of creating. The class has some fun ideas for projects that are easy to work on, which is super helpful. Every day I was excited to see what my new project was! But...a few seemed to not be what I considered sketching or drawing and didn't seem to fit the description. Overall, very helpful though :)
28 to Make is my ALL TIME favorite course at CreativeLive.
I just loved the way this was presented and the immediate connection of the videos and their content which helped me discover and try things I would not have thought I could do. The affirmations from others doing the same thing and being able to gather ideas from the 'sharing' bit was also important for me. I have gained a lot creatively and it has fired parts of my imagination that lay hidden. I am just sorry it is formally over. I missed the last x3 sessions and the portfolio bit due to illness but will complete the other tasks and will continue explore developing those that really opened a creative slot for me. Above all thanks to the tutors - each of you - I loved the content you chose and the enthusiasm and creative energy you conveyed in just a few moments and the generous attitude of the skills share. That's it - Thank you, would recommend to anyone not to miss this opportunity.
This was great. I had trouble getting through all of the classes but, it had a profound effect on my photography and my cinemagraph design
28toMake has by far been my favorite Creative Live class thus far! I have learned and grown so much over the last 28 days. I plan on continuing and making it into a 365toMake.
At first I thought this was going to be fun and interesting. But by the time week 2 started, it started getting boring and dumb in my opinion. I could not find anything of interest the rest of the classes except for maybe the one on writing in a pretty kind of way. I didn't see the point of many of the tasks. I especially did not like having the one class repeated so many times. Especially when it had nothing to do with drawing or making anything. I thought we were going to be making something each day, and by that I mean really making something. I found no inspiration or boost of creativity after the first week. Also, why call it 28 to Make if you are not doing anything at all on Sunday? I generally get a lot out of Creative Live, but this time it was a total waste of my time. I get more inspiration from YouTube videos on various art projects. Now it is nearly time for the live broadcast bringing it all together to make a portfolio. This baffles me completely as a portfolio is generally created to show to galleries, clients, etc. The description says we will be using what we made throughout these classes to learn how to prepare a portfolio for presentation? Yes, I am going to watch this just to see how you will manage this project. I would not think anything we may have made during this past month would be something anyone would be able to sell. I was very disappointed and cannot recommend this class to anyone. I am sorry to be so negative, but I have to be honest with you. There was very little I found to praise in this class. Also, I have not been able to find any way to go back over any of the classes.
Fantastic course! 28 days of creative prompts sent directly to your inbox. I've absolutely loved taking part and being inspired by the other attendees on Instagram. The only thing I would change would be to make sure that the text in the email accurately explains what the teacher talks about, as not everyone can watch the video every day. For example, day 22 was "shiny objects". If you watched the video, this was explained as "things that grab your attention as you walk around", rather than just "something shiny". Day 26 was "hand-lettered quote", but the video specifically gave us the quote "keep smiling". If you *choose* to do something different, that's absolutely fine, but a lot of people simply missed what they were meant to do!
Really inspiring course to try out new things and look at all the possible subjects you have to use in your arts, which ever medium you use. Be sure to also take a days rest and do these one day at a time, you will learn alot more by letting ideas rest in your mind for a day. You will be suprised what you come up with. I'm certainly going to keep some of the excercises (like saturdays) into my creative routine.
Great fun to do on a break, on the train or when you have a moment to fill! For me it's a way to refill after finishing a client project. :)
28ToMake is a really funny way to feed your creative processes with rich and compelling stimuli. It is a strong and enjoyable tool to make you feel at ease while experimenting unusual media and out-of-ordinary approaches to personal expression.
You brought me back into daily creativity - love that shit! Perfect tiny little doses of inspiration for further projects & creative thinking.
I love that I am DOING and THINKING more creatively in all facets of my life not just drawing.
This course has been real lifesaver ;) Kicking out of daily routines and discovering inspiring new ways of seeing. Thank you, I can heartily recommend this for everyone!
Such a great idea! Quick suggestions and easy to follow instructions... and inspiring projects!
Everything about this course is great, from the inspired projects to the talented facilitators to the wonderful, supportive community. Not looking forward to when this is done!
Absolutely brilliant idea! What a great way to build a creative community, bring artists together and share art!
Best course ever on Creative Live. It's the foundation for doing anything or everything creative. Even if you think your only creative interest is say photography ...and you're not a drawer, maker or artist of any kind ...think again. This course will open up your mind and you will discover that actually you are a creative and you can pick up a pencil and draw... and it doesn't take up much time... 10-20 minutes a day. In the beginning it's not about the end result, it's about the doing and how it sets something off in your brain. It will make a huge difference to everything else you put your hands and mind to in life.
What a fabulous idea - just what I needed! I'm making more effort to be creative in my spare time & actually sharing my art - it's not as scary as I thought! I am inspired looking through how others have tackled the same brief. My love for CreativeLive just keeps growing! Thank you :)
