Get Up and Running with Adobe Illustrator
Software Used: Adobe Illustrator CC 2015.3.1
He's a great teacher becacuse he goes in depth in every subject and is great both for beginners like myself and people that know the basics but want to go deeper. I browsed over the other creative live Illustrator courses and I would say this one is the most complete and the best to start off.
I've been an Illustrator user for about 15 years or so and thought I knew almost everything there is to know about the program. I was wrong! I just finished this course and can't believe the things I learned. I'm shocked at all the things I didn't know and was doing the hard and long way. I'm so glad I sat through this course. Brian is a great teacher!! If you want to improve your skills take this class. If you think you know Illustrator, you probably don't. I guarantee you'll walk away with new skills. :)
I loved this class. Brian is a great teacher. This class really helped me get off to a good start in Illustrator.
I have just finished the course, and ready to go through it over again. I have to say this is one of the best courses I have ever taken ( And I took a lot). Brian just knows how to teach, deconstructing such a complex tool as Illustrator, and make it super easy and understandable for a beginner like me. Even following it online, all the questions I came up with were magically answered, as if he knew already. I cannot recommend it more. I feel like I am now ready to continue my journey through Illustrator by myself because I have now all the knowledge I need to practice, experiment and do the work. Thank you so much!
I've struggled with Illustrator since the Creative Cloud came out. I always felt it looked like a valuable application, but I never would have bought it if it didn't come with Adobe CC. So I have struggled to use it and never picked up on the nuances of all the features until I bought this class. Determined, I sat down and said I was going to go through these videos over-and-over until I got a handle on what appears to be a relatively simple program. Thanks to this series and Brian's Classroon in a Book he wrote for Adobe, I feel at least knowledgeable enough to tackle the projects where I needed this kind of tool. Thanks to Brian and Creative Live for producing such a useful set of videos. I can personally testify it wouldn't have happened without you guys (and, if I may, I'll throw in a plug for the videos produced by Jason Hoppe and his blog and newsletter). Though I can barely sign my name legibly, I can say I'm an illustrator thanks to this program.
Top course. Very well explained, clear, good examples, pleasant teacher. I like it and recommend it. One suggestion, it would be nice to have a detailed table of content of the course in the material. For instance, it took me quite a while to find back the part of the course where how to make a gear was explained.
One of the best online courses i've taken.
I started with absolutely no idea about Illustrator and now I can find my way around and practice exercises. We went through all the tools, which was perfect for me! I would recommend it to beginners like I was when I started it.
Good course, but at times he moves very slowly....still worthwhile regardless
Brian Wood is an excellent teacher! He breaks the software down into bite size pieces and is very clear with the explanations. I have tried to watch a few how to videos about illustrator and was left with lots of questions. Brian clearly has taught this many times before because he answered any questions that came to my mind. This class was worth every penny! Thank you so much Brian! I'm very grateful for you. Jennie
The course is good. But it is incredibly painfully slow.
A brilliantly designed course. it's almost magic. It's everything you hope for in a follow-along software class. Brian Wood has engineered it so that you start on a project that just needs basics, and then you move on to more & more complicated projects, and almost without realizing it you've learned Illustrator. This doesn't just happen -- Wood has clearly put a LOT of effort into creating this course. Here's one trivial example: he doesn't overload you with a lot of keyboard shortcuts right at the beginning -- you start with the actions themselves, using the (admittedly tedious but easy) pulldown menus, and then after you're comfortable with what you're doing, he'll throw in the shortcut. It may seem obvious, but so many instructors feel they have to give you an extensive foundation of definitions, shortcuts, interfaces, etc., before you ever do anything. Good stuff to know, but you'll never remember it. Wood has you up and working almost immediately. And he's a joy to listen to, at a perfect pace. Highly recommended.
I've had Adobe Illustrator for years and struggled to figure it out by myself. I'm so glad I watched Brian's class. He explained important underlying concepts which I just didn't pick up by reading bits and pieces of the manual. I feel that I now have a much better understanding of how Illustrator works, and will therefore find that my work will be considerably more productive.
I had opened illustrator just once before taking the class. And now I can design my own logo. Brian is very good at explaining the way the tools work and he's giving very good advice. Very good quality class, I absolutely recommend it, totally worth the price ! Thanks Brian!
I consider myself to be pretty computer savvy but Illustrator (and Photoshop) always intimidated me so I always avoided it. This class took me from pretty much zero to being able to create pretty much anything I can imagine.
Such an incredible class. I've struggled to learn Illustrator for a couple of years. I use other apps (like Sketch) for my everyday UI work, however, there are a lot of times where I need something more robust. Brian is a fantastic educator, and helped me learn so much!
This course is just amazing! I would recommend it for total beginners (but some small experience in any Adobe application would be useful) and also for advanced users who want to pick some new features and short-cuts. Brian is a wonderful speaker, and he shows how to use the whole system of Adobe applications (mobile applications!), not only single tools. Thanks, Brian!
I am a pretty computer literate person but an Ai beginner i.e. I am completely new to the Creative Cloud/Adobe Illustrator. (This is also the first time I've used CreativeLive.) I think this course it is fantastic. The pace is good as is the content which progressed logically and covers all the basics you'd hope it would. The course is 2 full days' worth of material but it is broken down into segments so you can revisit or skip through as you need to. The presenter is really personable and easy to watch (even for me, a Londoner!). I would also say I think it is pretty good value for money -- I am currently enrolled on a part time course, basically doing the same sort of stuff, and I have to say this is better and a bit cheaper! I definitely recommend it to you!
Thanks a lot, Brian! It was awesome. I didn't know anything about Adobe Illustrator, and now, after 2-days course, I feel like I could do anything I want. Now it's time to practice!
I was one of the live students for this class, and I was thoroughly impressed by how clear, well-paced Brian's instructions are. The functions and issues he covered went beyond usage, but also intent and reason. I love his teaching style and would not hesitate to take his class again!!
This is a great course! Best suited for those with at least a little prior experience in Illustrator, or (like me) experience in Photoshop. This course is one I'm considering for purchase, because I'd like to go back and trace through the examples in more detail, to reinforce everything. Brian Wood is a gifted teacher, and I enjoy his methods of presentation. The only criticism I have: His enthusiasm sometimes leads him to show us too many options or nuances: "Here, let me show you A, B, and C, and oh, by the way, you don't need to know any of that." If you're willing to forgive those detours, and if you're not a bare beginner in Illustrator, this could be the course for you.
This course was awesome. The best course I've participated in thus far. Great job Brian!!
It was immediately clear Brian is highly experienced with Adobe Illustrator and has been for a duration of versions. I actually have the first edition AI CC Classroom in a Book (Kindle version) - it's 5 star excellent. Overall this class is exceptional. I think it would be better suited to break it down to a beginner class and an advanced class. It is easy to become overwhelmed with the amount of information presented, especially for someone brand new to AI. 5 star - recommended.
Great! Very Helpful Thank you!
I would have liked to have the tint/transparency issue addressed. Also the ability to interact and ask questions for those of us not in the audience was a great option, previously available. Other than that this course covered lots of important topics and tips, I would recommend it.
