Fundamentals of Photography

Creative balance in your photos
Helpful info, speaker's public speaking style is harsh and direct, kind of difficult to listen to for long periods of time, feels like you're being yelled at... otherwise good info in this course.
useful insights and great overview of composition.
I am elated to have found this. I teach MS and HS Art and before I was a bit all over the place with composition terminology and principles. This helped me focus and organize my curriculum a great deal. Thank you Chris!
Great course on composition for your art. Multiple applications and straight to the point. The presentation provides an adequate amount of examples for reinforcement of learning the concepts.
Quick and easy guide to composition techniques and principles for those new to them. Thanks Chris.
Concise and informative. What I learnt from this video is very useful to improve my photography skills.
This class was excellent! I have so many more ideas for which directions I can take my photos when I'm composing them--both in camera and while cropping. He packed a lot of information into an hour and a half, yet made it all digestible and easy to understand. Definitely would recommend!
This was a comprehensive and useful overview of composition principles, with excellent examples. The instructor is effective in his delivery.
I'd probably rate this 3 of 5 stars. It's a very good summary of composition principles, but it felt rushed. I took a lot of notes--not just what the presenter showed on his slides, but also his commentary (such as including gesture and the direction of eye contact as part of your "lines"). The class was definitely helpful, I just would have liked more expansion of these ideas. It also would have been nice to see this in practice-- given a location, what are some different ways to apply these principles? Again, the class provided a great overview, and it gave me a direction for what I still need to learn.
Good overview
Fantastic class, one of the best I've seen so far on Creative Live. The amount of information Chris manages to squeeze in such a short time is simply impressive. Extremely useful, not just for photographers, but for everyone who engages in visual arts. Warmly recommended.
Excellent class...simple, concise and easily digested.
We often look at today’s popular photographers for inspiration, but Chris focuses on the masters who composed scenes beautifully even before photography was invented. He cuts through the noise and puts your focus where it needs to be, just like the composition techniques he describes. I’ll definitely be watching this course more than once, it’s that good!
This has been an extremely valuable class to take, for me. Yes, it is very technical, but that's what composition and its guides/rules are. I thought I knew a bit about composition, but this class taught me otherwise and I am glad it did. I have been able to learn so much from it and the visual example provided in the class definitely gave me some ideas to try out the more complex compositions.
I agree with another reviewer saying that this is all theory and no practical application or tips. This felt more like it should have been one lesson named "Introduction into the rules of Composition" because it's all it is. Great starting point for those of us unfamiliar with different composition rules, but it simply gives the description of the rule with a few examples. I expected more. I would still recommend it since it gave me a starting point on the subjects I need to now go and learn elsewhere.
This course was a revelation and I am glad I bought it. Very highly recommended. The only thing that would have made it better was having the instructor actually out in the field showing us the composition principles. Despite this small drawback I still think this is a solid class and one of the best classes I have viewed on creativelive.
Rich content, useful information. I learned a lot about topics in composition that I thought I already know about plus new topics and artists name to search for. the only thing that it would be better to include the useful slid Chris was using as PDF and to discuss more examples. Also no need to divide the course into 13 lessons, 6 or 8 would be enough as there were very short lessons.
The content of the course is excellent, lots of valuable information to be applied on my pictures. More examples or PDF material would have been useful, but still is a great course.
Chris provided many useful tips on improving composition. I thought that I had a good handle on it, but there are things I learned to make my photography even better. I would have paid for the course if it had just been about visual theories because I love learning about theory.
Really useful tips and tricks to improve your understanding of composition and why you like the images you like - which you can then use to further your own ability to take great images in camera.
I though I understood composition until I took this course. I have always known what I like and what I do not like compositionally, but Chris Knight explains WHY something works or doesn't. He walks you through the why, what and how to use composition as part of story-telling. This course is very well planned out, easy to follow, and artistically useful. I was really pleasantly surprised at how much I learned in such a short time. Wonderful course!
Very informative and to the point.
Chris explains rules of composition I had no idea about. Having been shown them I've now seen them in different images in magazines etc. I agree with a previous reviewer than a lot more examples would have been helpful. I'm hoping to find more examples online. In summary, if you don't know about composition rules this will be of value to you.
A technical view of the different compositions with images supporting them. A good basic introduction.
Excellent information. I would have liked a little more examples in some of the composition rules, but I liked the content. Recommended for some one who is beggining or needs to reinforce composition
