Amazing course. Sal is such a great photography educator. Terrific course. I'm not usually big on watching business courses, but this course as taught by Sal was terrific. Down to earth, entertaining, packed with real life experiences do's, don'ts and lessons learned. This courses business A to Z and Sal is very entertaining to watch/listen to. Thanks CreativeLive for getting Sal.

  • Lorna G. Apr 8, 2020

I've watched this course over a few days and its jam packed with useful information. Its heavily geared toward wedding photography but can be applied to other business, seniors, newborns. I love his seamless delivery - he is at the top of his game and always has an answer for any question thrown at him. As someone just starting out this is an exceptional course with lots of practical information. Thank you Sal, you're a rockstar. :)

  • Jesse F. Mar 15, 2020

Love his energy and straightforward message. This really is the photo business manual we all need. I hope someday there will be an updated/newer version from Sal that incorporates how social media is now.

  • Romain M. Mar 3, 2019

This course is so complete and I love listening to the energy of Sal. It is full of very doable things to take my business of photography to the next step. I loved it !

  • Z. Jul 17, 2018

This info is amazing! I do wish the stuff that isnt relative anymore could be updated!! The price needs to reflect that much of the social media information is not relative now.

  • Q. Jul 17, 2018

So much of this content is dated now. Still helpful but the price is way off for the content not being relative.

  • Tif H. Mar 23, 2018

Probably the most comprehensive, to-the-point, "real life" class on the business of photography available on CreativeLive. Worth every penny.

  • Crystal V. Mar 12, 2018

I have been a long time fan of Creative Live and have sat on the fence with all of Sal's classes because I already attend Shutterfest every year and get loaded with valuable information there, so it was hard to pull the trigger on a $300 course that was filmed 5 years ago. Also, in my earlier days of hearing about Sal, I'd heard a lot of negative opinions about how he comes across. Still, I'd heard he's a marketing guru, and my background is in marketing as well, so I really wanted to see what this class was all about. Now that I've finally gotten it, I'm completely blown away. There is just SO MUCH MATERIAL in this class that its actually difficult trying to decide what to implement first! It is good stuff too. It is all about marketing, sales, and workflow. If you're looking for a class teaching you how to take better photos, this one is not it. This is the class that teaches you how to get your work where everyone is seeing it and convincing people to book you and tell their friends about you! Now as far as others have already said... this class is definitely geared toward wedding photographers. Yes there are bits of information that work for other types of photography, but it is so heavily wedding oriented that there might be a better fit out there for another type of photographer. If you do weddings though, this is an amazing class! As far as Sal's personality goes.... he's a New Yorker transplanted to St. Louis. So expect that NYC no BS type of attitude. Susan Stripling is another one of my favorites and she is similar in attitude (and also extremely talented), so if you like her, you should like this. If you have a hard time with her, you might have a hard time with this. Regardless, its stuff y'all need to hear and implement to be successful. Obviously because the class is a bit older, you may have to make small tweaks to a few things (even though he says don't jack with the recipe), but the marketing principles are solid and timeless. Shoot this course is worth it for the SEO advice alone. Just buy it already!

There's a lot of really good information in this class. I was pretty stunned to see throughout the class and on his website that his photography is not very good. I couldn't believe how bad and obvious the editing on his photos is i.e really cheesy sepia and brightened faces. But if anything, that proves the point he makes throughout this class. You can have a successful business in photography if you run it correctly. There are some times when I wish he was a little more specific about some things he talks about, for instance selling prints/digital negatives is something I would have liked more information on.

  • Brandon D . Mar 28, 2017

Sal isn't disgruntled and angry like someone below said, and he doesn't have time for people constantly whining about why their business isn't going good. He's from Brooklyn, so he can come across as harsh at first, but after watching several of his classes and even getting to meet him in person and talk a bit I can tell you he is a really nice guy who truly does want you to succeed. He was very encouraging to me after I thanked him for helping me and my business get to where it is now. Growing up, I can remember photographers grabbing us and posing how they wished. They are often in a hurry to get things right, such as at a wedding, so I am not sure why one reviewer stated he would dismiss them. Sounds like he is just looking for a reason to feel powerful. Anyway, this is a great class to get you on track with your business. Yes, its a bit wedding heavy, but the concepts are the same no matter what. Just apply them to your niche and you are good to go.

  • Bill N. Dec 27, 2016

This man is not angry nor disgruntled. This man is supportive and accessible. What he is not, however, is a snowflake coddling cheerleader. He is spot on and hard charging. I emailed him a question after watching another of his courses, and he answered almost immediately and with encouragement. If you want to succeed and the business aspect is not your strong suit in PHOTOGRAPHY, this course is for you. He shows his mistakes and lets you learn from them. He shows you his successes and lets you learn from them.

  • Dhruba C. Jun 25, 2016

This is one course I could not complete. Sal gave so many tips, and I am still too lazy to try them. Still cannot get over the hump and become a full time photographer.

  • ~. Jun 24, 2016

Sal is great. If you are ready to put his plan in place you should achieve all of your goals

  • Stephanie W. Jun 24, 2016

This class really helped give general ideas as well as practical information on how to incorporate this advice into your own business. Sal brings a lot of energy to the class without being artificial. Was definitely worth the time and money of investing in this course!

  • Jeanna G. Jun 24, 2016

This is hands down the best course I've seen on the business of photography. I have watched many free broadcasts on Creative Live, and believe this one is a must buy for any photographer needing guidance on the business side of the industry. The workbook alone is worth the purchase price!

  • Fernando T. Jan 25, 2016

This Sal's course changed the way I see photography as a business. It's just AMAZING! 100% recommended to anyone wanting to improve the photography business skills

  • Shelly W. Nov 19, 2015

Loved the course l. John is able to explain complex subject in simple terms. He provides loads of examples every step of the way which is just fantastic. Highly recommended!

  • Marina . Oct 31, 2015

90 days ago I decided that if I wanted to open a photography business, I should learn business. This is my first course in Creative Live and I can't say enough how AMAZING Sal's teachings were. 10% was everything I wanted to know... and the other 90% was everything I did not even think of asking but will be key in developing a brand. I am not a wedding photographer and I was still blown away by each segment. The tools and websites Sal recommends to improve workflows are great, the insights on how to deal with customers, the understanding of pricing... I was really blown away by all the information. Thank you, Sal and Creative Live! Highly recommended!!

  • Craig O. Jun 9, 2015

This is a great course. The content on SEO, FaceBook, and Instagram are something you will want to watch multiple times due to the substantial information in them. The sections on pricing are great, but totally focused on wedding photography only. I will have to try and figure out how to apply them to my portrait business.

  • Jessica S. May 31, 2015

I watched this course live and almost 6 months later, I can say that this course completely changed my business. I went from only 3 weddings last year to 11 this year, and I am actually MAKING money, all thanks to following Sal's business advice and approach (with my own personality and philosophy infused into it, of course!) Highly recommend for photographers early in their business, or photographers who are looking for extra inspiration and a boost.

  • N. Feb 11, 2015

I'm a wedding and newborn photographer. This course is worth it. Just know, its more on the wedding side.

  • U. Jan 11, 2015

If you can't get motivated listening to Sal...give in...just ebay the camera gear and find another path. This guy is clearly a driven, highly motivated and positive influencer. I have brought his teaching (and Taylors) into my own business, and not only am I page one on Google, but I am starting to attract the right brides for me. I will continue to follow Sal, and rewatch these lesssons over and over again. And if I make it...I too will give back to the community.

  • Kyle R. Jan 10, 2015

I'm not even a photographer and I purchased this course after catching one of the segments live. Amazing information is presented on how to take your business to a new level. I am a wedding videographer, and my team and I began discussing adding photography to the mix in 2014. But, we weren't sure exactly how to implement it and get started in that area. Well, this course gave me dozens of ideas to try and things to implement in my current business. If you own any kind of business, this course is more than worth the investment. If you are kind of stuck in your growth, get this class. If you want some actual ideas and examples of how to engage via social media, then you must get this class. Don't wait. Every day you wait is a day you're losing customers to someone else!

  • Tracy H. Jan 9, 2015

This is exactly what I was looking for. I have only gone through the first 8 videos and am creating a time line and action list for things that I need to do. He explains all the things that any person starting a business should know especially photography.

  • Billy W. Jan 7, 2015

Perhaps one of the best "business" courses to be found on the 'Net!! Someone mentioned the course should be renamed... as Sal states a number of times on Session 01 the information contained within can be applied to ANY business and this statement is absolutely true. You can find gold nuggets in this course from beginning to end regardless of your business. The fact that a well known, in your face, straight talking, no-holds barred and presumably successful photographer is discussing photography is an added bonus. Well worth every penny and more!!
