Master the Complexities of Controlling Light in a Controlled Space
If you’re new to studio photography, or even if you’ve been doing indoor shoots for a while, studio lighting can be a real challenge. The sheer amount of gear required and the inherent complexity of the equipment mean that there are always lots of variables—and lots of ways to make mistakes!
This weekend-long course taught by renowned music, editorial and advertising photographer Zach Arias breaks down the technicalities of studio lighting into manageable chunks so you can get a handle on what you need to do in almost any studio situation.
Zach will cover a wide variety of topics, from how to build a studio to shutter and aperture settings to posing groups. By the end of this in-depth course, you’ll have the skills to tackle any type of indoor shoot, whether it’s in a huge warehouse or your spare bedroom.
In this class, you’ll learn how to:
OK, I’m only halfway through this 13 year old video on lighting. Other than amazing, wow, and I love this guy, I have a couple thoughts. #1 His explanations are so to the point and effective, I don’t know what to make of it. I’ve never experienced a presenter in *anything* so effective. #2 I view on 1.25x speed so his “uuums” are not a distraction. I’m really sensitive to people that do “ummm.”
Awesome class!! Not only very educational with fantastic advice, but also funny and lighthearted!
Recently had a brain tumor removed. There are a lot of things I am having to refresh on as far as steps and some techniques. Thiis course is put into terms easy to understand and a lot of information from experience. As agood as being there with Zack on the shoot and having him share some great tips to help you succeed, I am going to be back on track now for sure, very happy. Thank you !
Solid intro with some advanced ideas of "controlling light in a controlled space" as Zack outlines it. I would recommend for especially new photographers wanting to see hands on work to setup an execute a shoot as well as a good exposure to base concepts that need to be understood.
Really clear knowledge. I'm going to take this knowledge to my students. Of course I won't do it as good as Zack, but it is great inspiration.
Good class, but it's getting old. Could need an update on the equipment list and the gear used is some what not what people use these days. Other than that, great class.
An absolute masterclass in indoor lighting. Thanks Zack
Excellent class and worth every single penny! I have always been a big fan of Zack both in regards to his quality of work and skill set and who he is as a person. You can watch all the Youtube video tutorials in the world and you will gain some good knowledge, however many are holding back some information they do not want you to know about. This class has taught me so much about lighting where I feel much more confident with the technical side and can focus more on the creative side. Well worth your investment!
really good class I really enjoyed it, he is a brilliant teacher and a great photographer, thanks a million Zack
This course by Zach Arias is by far the best course I have bought to learn every important aspect about studio work and lighting and all significant things which changes everything, without too much words, and with demonstration for everything. Thank you very much, for your generosity!!
This course is Amazing, I love it, I just wish we have 100%, but hey it's worth it every penny.
I just finished watching this one in 2018, and I still learned a ton of amazing information even after shooting in the studio for 3 years, despite this being an 8-year-old course. The gear might have changed but light and the principles for using it have not. Highly recommended to anyone who works or wants to work with studio lighting, Zack is an amazing teacher.
Great course! Definitely worth every cent!
Brilliant CreativeLive course - unlocked so much for me and no longer intimidated by flashes, strobes, metering, power settings, etc. So practical and concise. (Final lesson can be skipped as it's Zack just taking photos of crew and saying "Thanks".) Highly HIGHLY recommend this course if you're considering studio photography.
This is my first CreativeLive course I am watching and I love it! Love Zack and his manner of presenting technical and business ideas. Very knowledgeable, pleasant and easy to understand. He's got humor too which is a great asset.
Brilliant, really engaging guy who totally knows his stuff.
thanks to Zack i became a photography this class is a MUST HAVE
I own almost all the creativelive classes on lighting, so I should know everything, right? WRONG! Sometimes instructors make things too complicated, and they don't get right down to the basics. This class is about all Manual everything; your strobes, your camera, ....Everything. It's the way to learn! But alongside the basics Zac throws in so many other little nuggets of information, and, along with his wit and charm, Zac has become my favourite 'go to' man for anything studio related. He shows you how to run a profitable studio on a budget, and teaches in such a way that is so refreshingly HONEST! I love this class!
This was such a fun class to watch and a very educational class. Zack Is my favorite photographer and I've been saving to buy this class and it was worth every dime. Zack is so good at explaining and having fun with his work/ It's very inspiring.
This was an fantastic class! Thank you, Zack and Creativelive!
I didn't think I'd be purchasing this class since I was viewing it in April 2017 and it was produced sometime in 2011, so I thought maybe a lot of the content might be irrelevant or out of date. But as the program continued, it became clear that there was such depth and richness of material that I couldn't afford to pass it up. Everything I had wanted to know about working with lights and modifiers was presented in a clear, easy-to-follow way. Zack's sense of humor, structured teaching style, and mastery of this subject matter made it a no-brainer. If you are confused by the myriad types of lighting modifiers, how and why they are used, how they differ, and which ones are appropriate for specific shooting scenarios, this class will not disappoint. Zack does use primarily speed lights and Alien Bee strobes for his demos, but showcases a wide variety of modifiers, and, using tethered shooting to a Lightroom workflow, shows immediately after each capture how the selected lighting choice affects the subject. Well worth the price.
Zack... awesome job man! Best lighting course I've seen yet, you nailed it! Steve...
Pure gold this man!!
I purchased Zack's class before and it was amazing. I still go back and watch that class again and again. Zack has amazing knowledge on light and how it works! Learned a great deal from this and will continue to watch and follow. Thanks Cheers!!!! RICHI PHOTOGRAPHY
I purchased this class when it came out and I still use the information presented. Excuse the pun, but I had several "light bulb" moments during the class... Zach presents information I've heard many times before, but in a way that makes it make sense and more importantly, stay with me.
