Harness The Power Of Natural Light
Sometimes, the best light in photography is free. In this 90-minute class, learn how to manipulate ambient lighting into studio-like lighting conditions. From window light to working outdoors, learn to harness available light to create a variety of styles, from soft, flattering portraits to dramatic directional light. Go behind-the-scenes of a live natural light shoot with artist Sue Bryce to bounce light, bend light, soften light, and create drama with intense light.
While natural light is beautiful, it's also affordable. Work with inexpensive accessories like $35 V-flats and a $15 homemade scrim to turn a single window into several lighting patterns using different techniques. Discover how to use modifiers to turn bad light into the kind of light that flatters anyone. Then in the final lesson, learn how to replicate natural light with studio lighting gear for beautiful light at any time.
Portrait artist Sue Bryce built a career on using natural light. Her lighting style helps create contemporary, fashion-inspired portraiture without expensive studio gear. Awarded the Portrait Photographer of the Year—twice—Sue is a master portrait photographer specializing in a style of portraiture that helps women recognize their own beauty.
What a great course, Sue. I have ordered my v-flats immediately. A BIG thank you for this course.
I love her! She always explain with detail and provide many examples! I really loved this course!
Thank you so much Sue! I have been doing portrait/boudior photography as a hobby for 2 years now. I have a large room with two massive windows which is all I use for lighting. This class has opened up a whole new world to me with regards to manipulating the light to work to my advantage.
After this quick class I had a far deeper understanding of natural light.
I wish she would say please and thank you to the people helping her.
Oh my gosh - I love this lady!!! She is so fun and engaging and she obviously knows her craft extremely well . She's also an excellent instructor. Highly recommended!!
Lovely lady, clear and concise, a pleasure to watch, listen and learn.
Sue is an amazing photographer , I get excited watching , I’m learning so much I’m taking a few of her other courses as well. I highly recommend taking this course
Great for photographers starting out, simple practical approaches and hacks, and gave me confidence I CAN do this!
I have a very small 12 x 12 studio and utilizing window light is my best advantage since painting the white walls a darker color would make my setup look even smaller. I have to shoot at night or late in the day for more artistic work with other lighting sources. But her knowledge of light and how to shape it, control it, etc. has become very valuable for my work during the daytime with the window light.
Sue takes you back to the basics and in my circumstance, removed any apprehension to experiment with various effects. Just like "building" a proper exposure, she makes you unafraid of "building" your own lighting effect using easy tools. Simply with window light, a white shower curtain and some foam board you can produce stunning results.
Great class discussing natural light. Really inspirational to helping me understand how to incorporate it into my shots
Love this class. Its helped me so much not only with technique and tools but with confidence.
Absolutely Amazing! Easy to follow, fast pace, very informative!! Highly recommend!
This is an excellent course. Sue is a clear, engaging, and passionate presenter, who explains her approach in concrete, practical terms that anyone could understand. She offers great advice for beginners and more experienced photographers alike, and l love that she includes suggestions about hacks for more expensive gear (while also acknowledging the pros and cons). Well worth the money if you're looking to get into portrait photography.
Great class. Full of very useful information. Easy to understand. Would highly recommend.
This was perfect! I found Sue's honesty refreshing, I try to only shoot with natural light, it took almost 2 years before I brought lighting and hardly even use it now, but after this class the confidence I feel, that I can do anything anyone else can with lights is priceless. I found this class very rewarding. LOVE! Her advise on "hacks" Being a single mum in Australia who is just starting out in this industry, I by no means have the money to purchase such items as a scrim, so thankyou! I will indeed be buying more videos. Sue is certainly an investment to me :) X
So many gems, thank you so very much. A big take away is there is no wrong way-it constantly opens me up to experimenting and trying new things outside of my comfort zone. When I have a routine, it's OK, but I feel like it keeps me from growing and I want to be constantly learning. THANK YOU SUE! (& Thanks Kristina Houser for bringing Sue to my attention!)
I love that Sue shares who she is. She truly is a breath of fresh air. Relaxed and honest about who she is. I love her photo hacks and backstory. Keep being you and the ones that don't want to know you can find another class. <3 You are one of my photographer heroes.
Sue I have a more free style, fun photographic style than you but you have taught me so much over my lessons I've purchased on here alongside Kelly Brown. I hate flash though I can pull it off well because it is false and I like my photographs to look real. As for the person who said you are too insecure below, it's wonderful for a teacher to show how insecure they were when they started and can still be. I admire this about you and can tell you wish to shower women and men with positive thoughts and fighting back at the nay sayers. Go You!
I would only buy Sue Bryce courses when they are on sale. She is extremely talented and the information she shares is phenomenal BUT 1/3 is teaching and 2/3 is personal insecurities. I refuse to pay to hear her go on and on about not going to college, how people criticize her for not knowing studio lighting, how she was too insecure to charge people. She is an odd mix of insecurity and hubris which comes out when she says "if you don't like it, I don't care" (so unnecessary). Just teach Sue! For everything else, talk to your friends and family ..
definitely good for a beginner who doesn't yet have the time or money to invest in expensive equipment. i love her sharp personality and she is clearly passionate about what she does, infusing the whole atmosphere with fun
You are such a superstar! Amazing class
Sue is just delightful. I can listen to her warm and reflective instruction all day. She is the first pro-photographer I've heard that talks about starting a photo business along with the business of being human, shortcomings and all! She manages to impart her wisdom in a very playful, loving & thoughtful way. She excels at passing along many layers of pearls! I highly recommend her solo classes in particular.
I have enjoyed this week of her classes, and this one is great! This class is a balance of insider business sense on purchases and practical technique. She is self taught, and has done it on the cheap so gives great advice.
