WHO THIS CLASS IS FOR:
ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR:
Frans Lanting has spent more than three decades traveling the world capturing nature and wildlife. For the wildlife photographer, birds often capture his attention, from penguins and endangered species to birds common to North America. Frans worked as a photographer-in-residence with National Geographic, a position that opened rare opportunities for photographing little known species. His nature photography has also appeared in his own books and exhibitions. Born in the Netherlands, he moved to the U.S. to study environmental planning before embarking on his photography career.
A superb course and one which I already see myself referring back to regularly as I work towards elevating my craft. Thank you!
Mr. Frans Lanting demonstrated a lot of class during all the sessions. He was an absolute professional and gentleman, what an honor. I learned a lot, and I rediscovered details that either I knew and had forgotten, or that I didn't even realize I knew. I will go back to revisit some specific sessions. Thank you Mr. Lanting.
What made this course so helpful and interesting to me were the videos of being out on shoots, the detailed discussion of various photos, information about camera settings, the various ways of using birds in compositions, and the critiques of submitted photos. Frans' passion for birds really comes out, and it is clear that his extensive research and experience makes him an excellent instructor. I truly enjoyed this class and feel I learned so much.
Great class! I learned a lot about bird photography and it is obvious how much the instructor cares about the animals and the Earth. Very inspiring.
A most excellent class! Frans is an excellent instructor and presents information in a way that makes you want to keep listening through the last word. In the past few months I have spent a lot of time in parks photographing birds and, while mostly satisfied with my images, I have had too many that just missed being "good enough". On my first trip out after the class, I could see the difference in the quality of my images. I'm anxious to get out even more. Thanks so much!
I really enjoyed this class and would recommend it to anyone wishing to learn the art of bird photography. Frans Lanting is articulate and thorough in his presentation of this class and his knowledge of bird behavior and bird photography is evident.
Educational and inspirational. Excellent and accomplished teacher.
This course is such a fabulous blend of watching Frans think out loud in the field about settings, and then talk through his ideas about compositional ideas for birds in flight, bird portraits, flocks of birds and more. Don't miss this as all his ideas can be applied to every other field of photography, but also there is the added benefit of this remarkable man's knowledge of birds and how to photograph them. I can't recommend it more highly!
Frans, thanks so much for this. When I do a course generally if I can get one tip or trick out of it to better my skills I'm totally happy. You gave me many!
I've admired Mr Lanting's work for decades but thanks to having CL's Creator Pass, I was able to enjoy The Art of Photographing Birds even though bird photography is not my primary focus. Mr Lanting is absolutely engaging, articulate and delightful to listen to. What a teacher!
Very informative and inspirational! A must see for all bird photographers!
I am a new bird photographer and found this course so informative! From bird portraits, to behavior, to shooting at different times of day, his explanations were clear and easy to understand. I especially loved the fact that he took us along on "field trips" and shared settings and gear, and demonstrated it all by showing examples of his photography. I loved this course and highly recommend it to all photographers interested in capturing birds through the lens! Thank you Frans and thank you CreativeLive!
The best course on bird photography I have seen, presented by a master of the art in an easy to follow but inspiring manner.
Frans Lanting is one of the best photographers and teachers I've ever seen, by far. his photography got all of the elements of art without being created in photoshop. The youtube photographers aren't even close, and almost all of youtubers rely heavy photoshop to convey emotions in their repetitive photos.
I love Frans' enthusiasm and encouragement. His instruction is positive and thorough.
Phenomenal review on photography. Great presentations and his speaking through out entire review.
Fantastic class, I got excited watching it, I couldn't wait to grab my camera to try what I had learned.
A super class by a suburb instructor. I've watched the entire class now three times. I've just started photographing birds in the past three months and the tips and advice from Frans are spot on!
Amazing class! Mr Lanting is charming and full of knowledge about birds and of course photography. In every moment of this course you can see his great passion and love for these flying creatures. The course is full of tips for photographers who want to start capturing moments of birds life. Awesome!!!
I agree with the other comments.. I wasn't going to purchase it at first but then when I watched the beginning I had to come back and watch it again. Very good. Frans is a high integrity person who has a lot of knowledge and respects wild life. Thank you so much! Angie
Thank you Frans for a very beautiful and informative class. Being new to bird photography this class gave me everything I needed to continue my inspiration and knowledge with regard to photographing and interacting with birds.
What a fabulous class. Frans' knowledge of birds, both their behavior and ecology, interlaced with his expertise in photography created a really engaging learning experience. The intercalation of classroom lectures and the field trips really enhanced the content and kept it interesting. I have not delved into bird photography yet but this gives me a good foundation for venturing out. Definitely one of the best courses I have watched here, and I have been following Creative Live for about three years now. Thank you!
This was one of the best classes I have done. Mixing the photos with the live shooting was well done. There is so much information packed into the class that I will likely have to watch it again!
Frans knows birds, and he is an excellent communicator. This course was filled with suggestions and tips, both from the studio and from recorded sessions in the field. I especially liked that he spent over an hour critiquing student work. I finished this course inspired.
I'm not sure how I feel about the overall content. I was hoping for more detail on topics such as bird behavior and capturing the individual personality of birds but instead it seemed to be focused more on composition which is fine. I learned a lot and hope to apply what I've learned but I can't help feel slightly disappointed that the birds seemed to be secondary meaning you could've replaced the birds with turtles and taught the same content.
