Fundamentals of Photography
John Greengo
Deanne is a magnificent photographer. Love the story behind the photo narrative. Many tips on interpersonal skills needed for photo journalism. biggest take away was put yourself in a position to get the shot... be bold. loved it.
Another awesome course by Deanne. I really enjoy her enthusiasm and love for the art of Photojournalism. Her technique for build relationships and humanizing the topic of her photograph really makes me want to jump in and push myself. Clearly the uncomfortable feeling of pushing yourself pays off!
Good class. Great photos and stories. Not sure I got too much pragmatical info and process help that I was assuming I would get out of this class..
Great course. I love how candid Fitzmaurice was about the awkward parts of photojournalism and her techniques on access, which can be tricky. I have some limited experience as a photojournalist at smaller publications and it was inspiring to hear about her career and the stories behind great stories. More of a lecture than a lesson, but I picked up some helpful tips and feel inspired to go create some new work.
She tells it like it is- her experiences. You might not like what she talks about but she tells it like it is- and what it takes to make the images. This is more like a discussion about documentary work than a how to learn how to shoot photojournalism images on your camera type of class. I enjoyed this class, but it probably isn't for everyone.
Course leader has a lot of experience, and some awesome stories to tell. This was not my favorite course on the subject, but certainly worth taking if you are serious about Photojournalism / Visual Storytelling. I learned more about the need for self confidence and not being worried about rejection than anything else in this course.
I recommend this course for beginners or people who want to jump into the photojournalism world. There are nice tips. But I want more content about how to construct a photo-essay before, during and after finished the assignment. The basic steps about how to construct the story before to present to the editors: some tips (shoot portraits, ambient scenes, time, places) about how to construct the sequence of the story.
Always interesting to hear stories and you can learn from them but... bot really a lesson here. Still, I was entertained and enjoyed her.
