Learn to capture amazing images in the dark
There’s more to night photography than stars and hikes. The vibrance of color can be found in capturing the stars, a city skyline at twilight, or even car trails amidst a forest. Gabriel Biderman is a self taught photographer who enjoys the process of taking an image. In Night Photography 101, he’ll cover how to get started taking photos in the dark.

Fantastic class! I am lucky to have attended many NPAN workshops and have learned so much from Gabe, Matt, Chris, Tim, and Lance - - and taking this online course to brush up on my skills right before my next workshop was so helpful. I very rarely go out on my own to shoot at night, so I get rusty and forget things... this course is just what I needed to refresh my skills! Thanks Gabe! :)
Thank you, Gabriel Biderman (https://www.ruinism.com/) for sharing your experience, knowledge and resources of night photography. Matt Hill’s website (https://matthillart.com/) showing his cut paper art will astound you!
Good course. In regards to dew, I have been placing chemical foot warmers on the outside of the lens hood and it has essentially stopped dew problems.
Great introductory overview on long exposure/night photography. The 6 stop rule was worth the price of the course alone. I even shared it with one of my advanced night photography buddies who had never heard of it.
Great information and Gabriel just really knows his stuff. I totally recommend it to anyone because I believe you will learn SOMETHING even if you're familiar with most of the material. It's not that expensive and it gave me a bunch of ideas. On the negative, it's very poorly structured and edited with a lot of "hanging time" that could have been cut. This course probably could have utilized about 50%-75% of the footage they showed and achieved the same learning in less time with less distraction. Overall, I'm very happy about it and grateful to Gabriel and Matt for sharing their expertise. My criticisms are more directed at CreativeLive than the instructor.
I think that this class, and the others in the Night Photography bundle, are fantastic. They are detailed, and many could be turned off by the detail. However, for someone who really wants to understand the craft, attention to detail is crucial. These guys did a great job and I have already implemented their guidance in my own photography adventures.
Exactly what we were looking for... experienced, articulate and to the point. Not to mention truly passionate about his subject and it shows as he's teaching it. Didn't witness any excessive advertising, thanks for the equipment pointers for us beginner/intermediate folk as there are lots of ways to waste money in this hobby/profession. So thankful for the insight on what has been so effective for him for so long... his photographs speak for themselves. It really pays off to spend the time watching each lesson all the way through. For all the naysayers- bah...... as teach would say it "Keep on Clicking". And to Gabriel- If you're ever heading to Big Bend give us a shout! My uncle works in the park and we know allllll the sweet spots :)
Only a male photographer would start the class off by saying: "The camera is the heart of the image." For me, the camera is just the tool. The heart of the image beats within the photographer. Guys tend to be very much into equipment...
Too many numbers/math. Needs to be simplified more. Love the night photography concept and the results however. Lost me with all the numbers though -
Really enjoyed and learned a lot from this class and put what I learned to use the first night. This opened a new type of photography that I find exciting and fun.
This class was perfect in preparation for my trip to Zion and Bryce Canyon next week. I can't wait to put all this great information to good use! Very easy to understand, and fun to watch. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Enjoying this classes so far, I love the contents
What a refreshing class this was. Learned lots from someone who clearly loves what he does. I find to many times that instructors are robots teaching something they've taught over and over again. Gabriel is not a professional teacher 1st he's a professional night photographer first. Thats what I want. Thank you for helping with my night photography journey.
didn't like this class it's not clear as John Greengo class..
Great informative course, especially to beginners in night photography!
Overall good enough if you interesting and beginner in Night Photography. However spend a bit more time chatting with friends, but i think is Author's preferences to set the mood.
I liked this class a lot...I learned so many things to consider/think about when photographing at night. Great info and lots to think about and practice.
This class was super helpful in what to buy and then how to get the pictures you want. Loved all the other stuff that I knew nothing about. I knew very little about light painting. Thanks for sharing this class with us. This class was one of the best I have seen.
This course is fairly comprehensive, and offers a good intermediate/advanced intermediate examination of night photography (NOT just astrophotography, which is only one form of night photography.) I don't necessarily agree with everything he's saying here, but that doesn't make it wrong - it's just a matter of preference. He is fairly equipment-centric, but getting into many forms of night photography DOES require some specific equipment. There's a lot of useful information contained here, and I can see myself consulting this course in the future to help solve and understand certain situations and problems that are unique to night photography. Recommended.
I liked that he went through all of the equipment that he used first, and that he explained it enough for you to really understand why you needed each piece, but at the same time it didn't seem long and drawn out. I think he is a good teacher and that he seems really knowledgeable about things that affect night photography. Night photography, however, is not really my main interest in photography.
Say eXspecially one more time!
Thus is my first lesson.... free is good! This helps show me what I would need to do the kind of photography I want to do and what other courses I should get. Biggest learning experience for me is knowing just how poorly equipped I am now, but also learning how to work with what I have!
I watched this live and missed small parts here and there, but overall I thought it was AMAZING, full of SO MUCH useful information, and I will definitely be buying this one very soon! Great teacher!
Great foundational course for a night photography beginner, like myself. Material was straightforward and easy to understand. I learned a lot and I am inspired to start shooting the night sky.
