We are hesitant to use the term “legend,” but when it comes to the world of design, Stefan Sagmeister is truly a legend. Happy to play the role of provocateur and prankster, Sagmeister has famously pushed the boundaries of “design” with pieces like his 1999 AIGA poster in which the type was carved into his naked body, sitting on the edge of the Empire State Building holding a sign that read “over” (which police officers waiting for him below), or training monkeys to spell out words with bananas.

His impressive client roster includes names like The Rolling Stones, Target, Talking Heads, HBO, Time Warner and the Guggenheim, and he’s won two Grammy awards, an AIGA Medal and (in his words) “practically every important international design award.”
