As we're moving on to our last student shoot of the day here um and it's jennifer and she is going to be shooting kind of mother daughter nineteen fifties getting ready for a party so super cute eso talks me real quick would you the clothing props real quick where do you get from? I got the clothing from my good friend caroline rife um she's my mentor and she way kind of read each other's closets all the time and share props it's kind of convenience so you don't have to buy it all yourself and then um uh I got the vanity from antique liquidators and I rented it from them and then basically the other stuff is just like my makeup shirt my makeup brushes an old camera that I have tiara that kind of just simple stuff to kind of dress up the vanity okay? And then let me just take this yeah, um and we can't show this to the camera because you can't show that it was work, but what kind of pose is your thinking? I'm thinking of, like thiss kind of a post with a mother and daughter kind of know...

s each other flayed ra is going to be putting with a hard on and then they're going to do one where they're both in the mirror together like sure, you know, buying fancy and then just kind of interacting the way that a mom and daughter would be excited to go to a fancy party basically that's okay that's where I'm at and so I'm gonna have the shoe of bunch and went in it you might consider we'll take a look at how you like the light when you could also open up natural light and do it nationally if that's something you wanted so let's try the studio um and I think let me know where you need reflectors diffusers because it's always more challenging to get two people who are interacting well let versus like pose like yes I mean if you put them together but interacting so um well grab one more extra reflection in future why don't you grab a few shots to test your like and I will come and help you work it out uh okay guys, thank you for the first one I make it easy be on you were just gonna like, say, clip putting the lipstick on there's two lipsticks right there and I'm going to shoot into the mirrors so you guys have to kind of leave a little bit of a space between your head but lean in towards the mirror and I'm going tio let's see if I can get them both and here I don't know yet um because he may have made you come around behind reflect will say and smile look like oh, yeah we're going to a party. We're gonna have so much fun. Could be awesome already went. So have you be the reflector for someone? Take a look here. Here, what I would see and okay, um, so if you don't have the bench in, it might be easier to get a wider bench where they could both be on either side lining in. So I'm actually grab another chair. Okay? Just crop out the bench in this, okay? Because I think if you want that mirror shot where they're both getting ready, um, right now, I see two bodies, so if I can have them sitting kind of opposite leaning in and what could be better image? Okay, just grab that for you, okay? And then you know what? Can you guys kind of just lean in towards each other a little bit? There you go. Okay. All right, go ahead and come on and try. Even though that light is right in the light. Uh, in the reflection here, guys, heads together over time. Try shooting from over here. Just see what happens when you get that light in the reflection. I'm just curious, you know, what can you tell the mirror down just slightly? Uh turn the rabbit and turn it down just a little bit so I can see lauren to there we go perfect it's a little bit too dark so okay, so that you're saying all right so because what I was thinking is that if you let them from behind instead of from don't scrape your whole picture but you want them looking in the marriage you want reflection you know, I know I can I was just going to do some of them I was some of them facing so let me just totally that's really cute. Just tell the internet people out there what I was thinking if you want a reflection there face has to be reflected today directing esso I would be lighting from behind if you want it basically this shot that's up right now if you want that you'd like from the other side like there were two kind of vanity lights coming back at them so if if you do want reflections we can totally move stuff but if you want to start them facing this way okay? Yeah let's let's turn around. Oh, and here's the other chairs for you guys to spread out if you want if you need to spend what you want for reflection, you can start there maybe they're ok cute okay and just kind of snaggle unlike okay, you're can you put your heads together but just gently not so much pushing but just gently together so I can already tell that leg we need more light on her so we need to move this back because if you see it's really close to her yeah she's kind of hitting shadows they're bringing around to the front and angle it a little bit okay and then we're gonna turn ahead so see how it's a little more even on their faces now let's give a try. Okay? Can you look at each other and kind of laugh? Just thank you you were terrified e okay, I want you to last but make the noise because sometimes when you go ah ha ha ha ha make the fake laughs down it kind of helps you to really feel like you're laughing because it's kind of silly came eddie look at me look at your fake mom and laugh that was a good ok and then how about can you put on the necklace leija and then lauren you're gonna be just looking at her just look at her like watching her getting ready you khun face towards me actually stay facing towards me because the lighting is better this angle and just look just act like you're looking at your mom can you put turn your face towards the light switch signs oh, yeah, case her sons so there's I have him switching sides because she was looking away from the lights and put it on the other side she's looking into the light nice, nice, beautiful. You guys are so learn can you just tell your head up just slightly so it's like, look, you're having people here, okay? And don't tell your dad that for quite okay. My guys were wearing them, you know, I'm seeing came again. We just go over here. She can't get him out of affection from the single I mean, yeah, yeah, you have, baby, I'm just gonna tilt it up, ok? Sure, kind of from behind. Yeah, that that would definitely smart. Smart. Okay. Flavia, can you turn your head? Chan up to cicely and I think maybe can you put your you put your left hand up on her arm? She put that hand. But what? You can really put the necklace on young? Yeah, it's kind of like touch arm. Like hi, mommy would be doing that kind of thing that might help you. Okay, so I wasn't paying attention. Can you put your hand on her shoulder that girl and then just tilt your head slightly towards her, okay, lauren, look right here in me. And look a little more snugly cause it looks like you're like yeah, maybe like care much let me show you what I want you to do so can you stand in for just a second? Can you go like else that you have that's adorable like this? You're just gonna kind of put this hand here this hand here and kind of leaning like this perfect, perfect. And then, um, can you let's see maybe put your ears pierce those earrings there? Can you put those on and you are going to build to shoot when I'm done? We'll have the shoot, but I will try one different thing when you're done so your shooting because right now I'll tell you the angle, the vanity uh it's coming out the back of their heads so I would just shift the whole didn't flush I would just shift their chair till after right and then see how the vanities like I'm sure on I think it should be at an angle and them so left because right now it's like box box okay, so I think if we can move this way khun dio just a little bit that way and then I'm gonna do you guys speak this way just a little bit, okay, tell me if that makes four more dynamic lines in the photograph if you remember how I showed you put your hand there and the other one on her other shoulder and then tilt your head and towards her a good that we better take a look yeah yeah so I think it's better and I still think they should even slept shift even further this way so how questioning but in the end good keep shifting and I think of how the move this camera I think it looks like a black lauren can we have you sit here, sweetie? And then I'm gonna have you a little bit of lipstick on her okay? Yeah actually going to do it for real wait, I take one shot holland check this light because I'm guessing to our faces and shadow I might move it to the front a little let's just take a look and let's take a look at the posing everything because you know I really like this shot and it's fun come on, lewd can I have the girls take your jackets off too while we're waiting for this because I feel like the jacket kind of I'd say yeah, you know I agree because now it's it's more simple where is there are a lot more attention to pattern here I'm paying more attention to interaction kyushu back camera since it's not loading yes okay, so I am going to just move this around is a little more to the front uh we kind of boom it up over them but I love the way your posing yeah it's really you good and so instead of having to like kind of just from the front I put it up over because I'll still give you a little bit of shape from drama to it um you may have to rotate that mirror because now I could be like in it but you can always stand test it with this okay yeah that's cute that I like that because now you see it's that reflection there yeah um so cute to test shot and there's still the lights a little bit this site maybe if they switch sides he's too well yeah because now it now it's the interactions the otherway such decides like musical chairs and you're gonna face towards play john all right and will you turn your legs towards mom? Uh yeah that way good. Okay, perfect on your shoulder like that again. Yeah, so I like from their bodies crossing you even lied yet. Good. And so now it doesn't really feel like we'd call this store like wait a little bit too so that I'm just I'm sorry to make you get up again I'm just gonna slide you this way because I'm catching too much of the background so a question from julian miami is when sourcing items on etsy dot com is there a specific category that you look up it's a pretty big site? No, um it depends on what I'm shooting I literally to search and then ask I did start a nazi group that I asked people because you can do different groups and I asked people to join that would be interested in working together and making things for photo shoots and collaborating, so don't they have I just created? I only have, like six or seven members, but there people who say yeah, we want to create stuff for your chutes in exchange, give us photographs. So how was another sign now? Because I'm sure right now that chat room people like I don't find search lyndsey other and that's the group that I just created it looking it's fun people gonna ask her on facebook to yeah that's easy, but just certainty. I would just search like lise. What comes up? Contact a seller who has stuff at least cool. Thank you. Okay, take another question. Yeah, ok wei have a question from fashion tv in singapore who asked for the mother and daughter said, how would you light the subjects if the mirror was big, they tend to reflect almost everything around it. How will how will she position the lights in such situation in order to avoid herself and light stand being reflected on the mirror so what I was going to do and I know I don't have time trying to wait to see if she'd get the shot she wanted here I would light from behind the mirror and then if you're leading from behind like I would have them facing and I kind of wanted to um so I have them right? So if this is the mirror and there sitting here looking at I'm shooting behind them um what I would do is I'd like from behind so it hits both of them and then just make sure that light isn't hitting me so if I'm far enough back and that light has good fall up, it won't actually hit me so nothing in the background would be illuminated just the two of them so then there is no reflection and there's no problem so when she was first trying that reflection shot that's exactly I was thinking bring the lights around behind illuminates them doesn't hit her and then it's still the whole story okay, I'll take I'll take you have another question what do you mean? Other questions should give a show, okay jennifer, do you mind if I try one totally changing everything quick thing? Okay girls around real quick I'm a sushi what I'd probably do general quick um I'm gonna have you sit here does that go lower me amami seat uh try to give me some space so I can see in between the mirror let's see or and I have you both scoot one way or another I think shoot from here okay, both of you scoot left or just moms who'd left if you can good little bit ok, good. So I'll show you the frame and then you have to light it I'm going to shoot the frame real quick I would shoot um what what was your name again? That little girl thing uh lauren inflator lauren just lean forward a little bit was his busy still? Is there a problem? I would shoot this frame if it would shoot there we go. Um it zez busy and it kind of gets sad okay, so I would shoot that frames let me light it while we're trying to figure that out that it did okay, let's see have no idea what these settings will be. Okay, let me see. Okay? And both of you look that way with your hands up look, look that way with their hands good. All right, this I can turn off for my habit of phil let's see okay off just really quiet, okay, thanks to that all right, that's still on there she'll let me see is it working out okay so if you're looking, you can see in the light it's letting both of them their faces from the rear and then you'll have kind of a backlight which were probably reflections I might move you at some point you might get your shadow uh okay, so see, still not working I might just take a shop that might have you untether and then I can show everybody later if that needs to be our solution we'll see if that requires my breaking stuff. I just thought it's ok, I think ok replace this in yeah, don't get electrocuted. Okay, here we go. Let's, take a look at these girls, okay? Try how you worked that it's very dark. Okay, so let's do this I'm going to pump it up a little. Can you take the grid over there's? No good on that one. Okay, so I think I would do keeping the reflector up this way so it's filling them from here like, pull the whole thing of so it's one big weight reflector from this side. Good. And then I can you plug this back in a little bit? I'm actually might pump it into their see all this work this shot and then I think I have to break it good, let me just give a test here both you girls lean into the mirror and then look your heads a little bit to the left. Good. And then I need you. Can you both see me? Can you see me in the mirror? Good. Um, could you put your right arm down a little bit? Good. So choose something like this. And now, lauren, can you put your head on her shoulder a little good, and I would need to modify this light. Did not flesh should be in? Uh, think cord is not put then. All right, let me try a couple more modifications of this. All right. Um, I do like two little tweaks I think we need to treat good. Are light sources say that it's better. It's. Okay. All right. So the last thing that I want to do do you mind if I put the soft box back there? So I think that's the only thing I want to switch just yeah, just yeah, well, yeah. Is that easier? Is it you do to move it? Okay. So I will lower this switches. So it's a software from behind it's kind of weak. Okay, let me switch and I will grab that like phil. Um another solution. So where the problem was when I'm looking at this image is that the lights too harsh in their faces which was soft box but what I would do if we had more time is back them up and then it becomes more even and spreads across him because right now, it's like the lady's going to be hard from the side, tried the fashion. Yeah, um if we had more time to back him up like here and that would give you more, uh, more flattering back. Yeah, I'm gonna see that the philly think okay. Okay. All right, so let me test this again and then when I once I go off camera, you can shoot this. However, you want to give it a little test here, see if this works, okay? And then can you back it up just a little? I can see it just barely. Okay. Right there. Take both of the lovely ladies see, ok, and so I need to pump that way up. Can you put the power of this offense up? And then what? I'll show you, you can see the reflection behind them of the of the blinds. So what I would do is a piece of black foam core, so I'll have you shoot that in the break

I have watched at least half a dozen Creative Live courses and this was definitely one of the most interesting and informative of them. Lindsay showed her wealth of knowledge in lighting, posing, post processing and marketing. I was truly impressed with her level of comfort in each field. She tackled different situations and questions with ease. I really liked the course layout as well. She shot her own themed shoots and explained them. Then she helped each student with their own very different styled shoots. It looked like a lot of fun and a great way to learn too. Then at the end Lindsay had a fun little light painting session. WELL DONE LINDSAY AND CREATIVE LIVE!!! ;-)

I'm an artist and amateur photographer who has long been interested in the subject of fashion photography and how to incorporate it into my art. Lindsay impressed me with her depth of knowledge and her comprehensive and selfless method of presentation. Showing before and afters to illustrate technical differences was particularly helpful to me, as was seeing her explain the importance of concept and story. Posing, glowing skin, and lens flare techniques were also a treat to witness and learn from her. Her passion for the subject is tangible, and left me more excited about the potential for my own work. The sheer volume of information Lindsay shares in this workshop is tremendous, from idea to the shoot to post-production, and certainly worth the investment I made in my career. I thought Lindsay was totally amazing:) She has inspired me. I want to attend more of her workshops. She was a great teacher. I want to learn more from her. I would love to attend one of her intensives, but I will have to wait til next year:( I am just starting out and she has given me many ideas. I cannot say enough good about her. I would love to see Lindsay back:)
