The philosophy of a well run business
We're in the business of the business of wedding photography. Right now. We're talking about all these things that are involved in running the actual business side of your wedding photography business. But why like this is all great and wonderful and this is good information. But what is the philosophy behind it? Well, you kind of need to be a well oiled machine for all of this to work in a efficient way so that you can be creative. I have a very hard time when I'm worried about a lot of other things, being creative. And I think when you're shooting a wedding, you are running through all these technical things in your brain as far as your camera goes. But you're also trying to make people feel good and you're also trying to be creative and be interesting and evoke emotion through your art. So having a well run business in the background will allow you to free your mind and be able to do those things that being said, all these things are a really good way to organize your business. Stay...
on top of all these things, stay on top of your accounting, which we're gonna talk about in a little bit. Stay on top of your relationship with your clients, stay on top of your gear and your equipment and updating it and making sure that the firm wire is up to date that it's clean. The idea of running your business well, will allow you to be creative later. It'll also allow you to create room for yourself to grow as a business. If you start these wonderful practices now, as you grow, it will be easier to expand. It will be easier to understand your workflow. When you have a client, it'll be easier to understand your contracts as you get better and better at it. You'll also have an easier time getting money in and money out, purchasing new gear, keeping track of everything and maintaining your website. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that take running your business seriously every day if you can get up during the week and just put an hour of time into the administration of staying organized, keeping your contacts uh together, uh watching your accounting, looking at what you're spending, making sure that all your portfolio photos are together posting on Instagram, making sure all of that is nice and tight and consistent is going to be such a wonderful key to having a successful business. Then you can concentrate on the creative aspect of the photography when you go out and actually photo the wedding. I actually talked about my client management application that I used earlier. It's called 17 Hats. That's been my favorite. But I've also heard a lot of good things about an application called Honey Book. Now, there are tons of different client management apps or organizational skills like Trello or Slack or uh you know, even you can build one out in your own Excel Sheet on Google. The important thing is to make sure that you are organized and these tools will help you. And remember earlier, I said, invest your money and your time into setting those things up so that it can become automated if it's something you don't necessarily want to deal with. I can't tell you how many times I refer back to my app and just check what was said during a phone call when it was that we talked who's paid uh all the contact information for all the people is all in one place staying organized, is gonna help you so much. So maybe look into some of those apps or build your own system to have for your business.
