Freestyling

let's talk about freestyling for a minute and let's let me put you on a live camera feed so that you can see what I'm saying okay sammy here I might just take this out my poo if you can okay now do I want a life fade not let me just show you first be in your way okay the ability to direct somebody without props means that they have to step away from here freestyling too may is when I'm going I sort of think it's the next level of directing it's when you're on a couch and eyes hear your shoulders here you hands here you're sliding it back here you're dropping the front shoulder your chins long you're pointing it forward those positions when you're learning them are quite difficult to find until you learn them and then they really easy anybody can do them eventually some people take a little bit longer to mould into those positions but this freestyling here is is when you go crazy taking photographs because they're out there on their own so it's one of the hardest things to do so you did...

it actually in your chute didn't you and that laughing showed a few holding your elbows was so beautiful and candid but I need to be able to control it so I control it like this so okay I see a lot of photographers freestar so let's just say we're freestyling and it's like let's all just go freestyle and people just do the same thing and they and they they don't connect their chin and they don't do anything they don't take any of my rules basically though they'll go they don't know how to touch the body because I'm not directing them now and you know in every now and then you'll get someone who's hot staff and they can move a little bit but they'll just do the same thing and the chins never where I wanted to bay so it's directing and freestyling so I wanted to be a little bit like this I'm going to say okay what we're gonna do is I'm gonna get you to hold your elbows and look at me over your shoulder this way that's it okay and then I'll go click but then when you change I want you to step out and go this way and then look over your shoulder this way ok and so that's when you changed and then do the same thing again this rocket that's it do it again click look at mei clique look at me and smile click look at me and smile again look down and smile I can't look down a smile click again I can't no spin all the way around and recent with your shoulder that's exactly right so that's all I'm saying to them so I'm getting them to do really basic movements something really simple like cock your shoulder and then just look back over your shoulder like your shoulder look back over your shoulder and what it translates to is just really is long as you get it on there on the look you get it you just click and if you put a fan and their or you've got fabric in there it looks incredible because it looks like they're in a full range of movement and they're actually doing something really simple now in a perfect world a perfect world I would demonstrate just talking my frescoes in a perfect world everybody would go I'm going everybody would be good dances and very confident and I would say I want you to turn and flick your skirt and look over your shoulder at me this way and I got this and I'm gonna shoot it right about here so I'm gonna get welts and flight and I'll take him on lots of movement at your back beautiful wake you shoulda forward gorgeous trail it on now look att may push it in fourth and I'll just keep repeating it until I nail that amazing shot with the dress but the reality is it's most people are like this like that and so the idea is that you have to keep doing it on tween alec is it with getting totally so this is how I do it because they awkwardness that rocking from side to side that has no connection here no look on the face is not a shot so yeah like a scary question while she's talking people on the internet always ask some really fun questions one of those being what is what is the ring on your thumb for the answer was jewelry speaking of jewelry uh what do you think of jewelry in your photo shoots good question I I forget to a jury and my shoots um I let people add their own jury yeah so we're gonna pretend that someone has got a flowing skirt on obviously she doesn't now first thing we're gonna do is the first thing I wanna do is I'm gonna tell you to spend like this with your hand out like that just nice and slow and spend and everybody does the same thing that's been that's exactly right now what I want you to do is trail it so I want you to go at this in trail it behind you yeah that's it okay now do that again but this time I want you to arch your back and long trail like this like watching trail all the way around good gil now this time what I want you to do because I want you to spend I want you to trail it and as you come around I want you teo collect their son's shoulder so I want you to go like that so you're trailing behind during a beautiful action you're back and connecting to shoulder and looking at me at the same time go and bang ssi so just keep asking one thing at a time and to your building into an amazing type off pose okay so jeans and she just tucks it in a nice diss a skirt like a beautiful skirt oh we were just simulating a flowy skirt so you could do this with a bridal veil um you know to to a skirt anything with movement I keep fabric like this because I really loved makes kitt and get waistbands I've actually attacked this all the way into somebody's underwear so there's this really killer shot um that I had yesterday on dh what we did was we tacked the skill skid and technique and some minor and I we're shooting here and we were trying to get this amazing movement where she would throw this up and then go with this so she could move really well so we were getting into throw this gate and then sit the position and it just was not working I was trying so hard to do this beautiful pose and then we worked it out take a step that we worked it out some minor was standing here like this I'm there where the camera normally is and we got her into this beautiful post so we crossed her over and we got a hand up to here and I think she was doing she was doing something are you here so she's doing this gorgeous pose and there's a lot to shape in her body and it's good is just rusche flying off to the side and how he did it was I stood there I focused on here and on the expression and the beautiful mouth and everything she's pushing a chin fort she's really working her buddy it looks like she's dancing she's really going for it so minor stood here like this and I'd say go into matter would go like that and throw the fabric in the year and assumes the fabric of her dress flew it just looked like she span and just done this incredible dance moving the skits just gone wish so remember when I said talking about even though I look like I shoot but while there's a girl with the black fabric and it's flying up behind your head niko can you bring the image up from yesterday by any chance so a question from from wonderful air deeper for certain shutter speed during the freestyle post whatever I can get that shop I'll just take whatever you get great ok in the black shop was that a yes celeste okay it's a it's a trip dick at the start of yesterday's pdf of a girl flying pinks good and black fabric in the other sharp she's in this gorgeous black and white um it's a gorgeous black and white of here in lingerie and she's doing something similar to this and it looks very sort of victoria secret isc and what we tried to do with shape her body get it to throw the fabric and for it to fall and what it really was happening with she was just standing there doing this and it was just a dumping on a head and it just wasn't working and we tried and we tried and then all of a sudden weight we applied the same role with throwing the fabric we got her into a position that was like this so crossover semi crossover nay and she had this hand here like this so she was really working her body further than you know to get us match curve and there is possible there it is and see the favorite flying behind here what we did was we put two pieces of fabric like this around your arms like that because we didn't want armpit and some minor way like this and wayward rock the bunny and then sir minor would go like that and just throw this happening here and we were just looking making it look like the fabric was flying and the more we did that then we did it on both sides and so it's it's really hard to explain to people where that fabric is just flying all the way around here but she's completely static and both images so getting people to move and getting people to freestyle is very difficult thing to do but once you nail that movement and the only way to do it when you're freestyling and spends is to just break it right down break it down and keep it keep them doing so fierce they tend sigan time they turn and have this hand here said time they keep it out child fourth time they worked their shoulder first time they're working their expression and then all of a sudden they just turn around and go look there and you get this incredible shot of fabric flying and if it's worth it because they buy a beautiful print so movement movement is really important uh I use a lot of fan and here and I use a lot of fan and fabrics but ultimately they have to look like they can move if I get somebody who actually can dance talking again then I'm I dance with them and I say okay so I've got my camera on my mind apart I'm taking as many shots as I can okay what I want you to do is I want you to bunch up and just flip it's a sight I want you to sort of bring the shoulder across mira me cross may in them first bringing across that now I want you to go this way and this time I want you to flick back that scent so as high as you can go that's a girl perfect now bring that shoulder forward okay now I want you to keep this hand on the fabric and I want this hand to come up kind of salsa nightly go yet so I kind of want you to spin this way and then just like a salsa move night mirror may so you're going to spend back this way that two go go back take that hand off this one you're going to come at spin and like yeah and I'll get people to dance so ultimately I get them to do small movements like that or I'll get them to turn and spin back to the camera and I just want to create some dance moves with the here with their hands up that moves the here and I just say keep bringing the chin forward do it again spend again throw the dress up movie hips move your body spent around and ultimately they'll start laughing because that all of us had and they're doing the least dance moves and then it translates to laughter in coming here and it becomes a sequence for me so tomorrow when I'm talking and you about selling a siri's of nine images I would like everybody who comes into my studio to buy a folio box and a wall portrait off nine portrait's and the war portrait of nine looks it's based when it's a siri's of dancing or moving images that looks incredible when you could get somebody to dance in a skirt or fabric like that and then sell that is one pace so I'll talk to you that's to me is shooting to sell so we'll talk more about that tomorrow there is a movement card in my posing manual which am talks about trying to fake his much movement as you can and then just in terms ofthe general movement uh that doesn't involve a wall let's just do some general some general mirroring so let's go hands on your hips kicking out this way let's ago and there's my shop there okay and then I want you to go this way and I want you to do that okay this hand ghost effects like beck and I just want you to lean straight back into it long chin this way that's it then from there I want you to hold your elbows and open your upper body out to mae I want you to tune this way and look back over your shoulder I want you to put your thumbs in tee off or your index fingers into jane's there that's it good girl I want you to turn back and face me in the front I want you to just kick out this way so don't think too much about it that's it and maybe this hand out to hear pets one look down beautiful big laugh or thumb from the air convict the front and you know just keep moving it should really be that quick and the quicker that you are styling and shooting them the list they have time to think about holding each pose every now and then when I get them into a pose and I see something that I really like I'll say stop stop to stay there stay there stay there don't move okay from there don't just bring this hand up don't move anything else just bring the scent stop stop that's it that's it you see I'm like that so that's how I'm director and then I'm like stop stop that that's a little high semi lift up the hands the hands go go stop stop stop there it is baby being and I jump in and grab something there and then I'll keep them moving again but I just want them to mirror may I want to come up with lots of different ways to move the body but I want to remember the rules at every moment her chin is forward and down at every single moment her hands either on her body touching her body and I try always for symmetry isom a tray and the hands up down they never if she crosses over and touches here tommy then I say no not on the tummy if never at any time did we touch the boobs again so those are the same rules that apply but she's just out there on her own now nobody's going to do that unless they trust you or be if you take strong direction in the opposing swap with amanda this's for this's for everyone who thinks that semi models for me okay okay so I can't just may remain okay so from here I want you to take your feet apart one hand out on him now push it out there long chin for don't three hit back stop okay from the I want you to keep this way I won't need to tune this way this foot goes out and he goes up this hand comes all the way around good girl long chin around here bring this elbow back good girl now bring your shoulder forward so work your shoulder forward to meet that's the one right there okay from there what I want you to do is hold your elbows here on you babes that's it now rocky shoulders forward bringing chin around this way good kill beautiful big smile okay from here I want you to turn around to the front I want you to bring this hand up ok put your feet together I want you to kick your booty out this way and I just want you to bring this hand up here and this hand up here now bring your chin ford no fist okay tuned this a hand around and let this hand go to here a case is soft fingers nice frame the face push your chin for amanda now give me that face and look their body out this way good girl okay in this fight you know I want you just to keep people will just keep marrying you and doing what you're doing okay people will just keep coming back to whatever you're doing and they'll just follow it if they take more time if you have to stop like there and push the ten forward and make sure that they're giving you that expression you just take a little bit more time but if I go too slow so if I'm sitting here and I'm pushing push this hip outs and he goes that way bring this hand up to here and bring this hand up to hear the more she thinks about what she's doing the lace expressions going keep coming from her face or keeping the flow in your posing is really really really really important

Michael And Dawn

Dawn and I watched the workshop taught by Sue on glamour photography with much anticipation, and we were not disappointed. In fact after only the first hour we turned to each other and, at the same time, said "We should go ahead and purchase this course." Which we did on Sunday, the last day of the three day course. The CreativeLive team did a great job on producing the workshop, the set looked great, the sound and camera angles were unobtrusive as they should be, and the on-screen talent were engaging and approachable as usual. They interjected with questions from the audience in a timely and relevant manner, and humored us all at times as well. As it should be, the real star of the workshop was the information that Sue was providing, but a very strong supporting role was Sue herself. Even though she never made it past the 9th grade, she displayed enough wisdom to make us think that we wasted a lot of time sitting in school. Sue had both Dawn and I captivated, her likable New Zealand accent, was so warm and soothing, that I think we would have listened to her say almost anything. However, "anything" was hardly what she had to say, no-no, she had a great deal to say, and we found all of it so educational and inspiring that we can't wait to put what she tought us into practice. Sue's "Keep-It-Simple" approach to glamour photography is refreshing, she does not complicate a shoot, nor does she complicate the business end of things either. Her philosophy is "A confused mind says 'no.'" So her pricing, marketing and re-pore with her clients is simple, understandable and repeatable. Dawn & I fully recomend this course to anyone looking to engage in glamour photography, not just for the mechanics of learning the studio process, but more for how to think about the process and your interactions with the client, we think that Sue's interaction with her clients is her real "secret" to her success; she makes the photography session for the client a wonderful experience and that experience is what gets them to market her via word-of-mouth exposure, which is the best kind of atvertising and best kind of accolade for a photographer. Thank you Sue, we were both entertained and educated and a little bit mesmerized by your workshop. Hope to see you soon on the CreativeLive stage. Loving every moment of this course so far and I've learned so much from Sue's gentle but wise words. It's so important to be true to yourself and as much as I've enjoyed most of the Creative Live classes I've taken I've had a much different personality than many of the teachers, I am so happy to see how Sue is able to stay calm and quiet and still maintain perfect control of the situation...I had huge anxiety sometimes at shoots thinking I should be bold, boisturous or entertaining to be successful. Looking forward to following her class today in between my son's hockey games...so lucky my computer is in the kitchen and I can watch and still keep things at home fairly sane! lol thank-you, kerry www.snickerdoodles.ca

Watched 80% of it live and after constantly screen grabbing :D I BOUGHT IT. This was my 3rd time watching a CreativeLive and my first time purchasing a course. (Loved Zach and Jody and will probably buy that when the time is right...still a little scared about weddings.) ANYWAY - SUE IS AMAZING!!! She is so open, inspiring, fun, funny, knowledgeable, TRANSPARENT, giving, smart, creative, expert, unapologetic, grateful, enlightened, adorable, gorgeous, hilarious, yet still imperfect and human and not intimidating. She will make you laugh and cry as she laughs and cries. You cannot argue with her MANY YEARS of experience. She is just in love with what she does and it is contagious. I have told people IN PERSON that her online CreativeLive course changed my life. I bought another online course for 2K last year...where was Sue back then? This is worth more than the 2K 6 week course I took. I obviously have a girl crush on her! www.CarolineWhitePhotography.com
