Project 2: Introduction

I do wanna go over one last project that is a little bit different. It's gonna take us in a different direction, but we still classify it as mixed media because we're using a lot of different things to make the look work. I just want to show one other page before we start with our second project. This was another page that you've probably seen this particular layout using the same kinds of techniques, but it's really more scrapbook-y, really more paper, traditional types of paper things going on here. But in this kind of substrate, what you'll notice is that I've added gessoed flowers. Not flowers, but feathers. So this feather actually got covered with a gesso paper and a drop shadow added, for example. Or all of this brushwork has a lot of blending. So it's pretty much the same kinds of stamps, but they've had like a linear burn or a multiply applied to it. Clustering, using colors to fill in these, and it's just a lot of layers to show color into the gesso. Kind of similar, if you g...

uys remember, to the beginning layouts when I talked about Zineva and how she had that mixed media texture type of style. So you can get the same types of looks. And then there's lots of blending going on, so it uses the digital portion of that. So we have traditional part mixed in with digital and that's, again, what really separates us as being scrapbookers, that we can add all of those techniques, we can add the traditional, we can add the artistic, and that's what makes us digital mixed media scrapbookers. So I just wanted to share that with you guys, how that layout comes into play, I know you guys have seen it. And that's actually one that I do teach in Champions, although it does not have all this information that came with it. The second thing is this layout. This is the actual project that we're gonna create, and like I said, which you guys saw, it comes from a trash can. I want to build texture, I love to build layouts that have beautiful things in them, 'cause I just love to look at them. Now, I'm a beach girl, just a little bit of history of why this is an important layout for me. It's not just some regular layout. I don't make anything that's just for no reason. It has value to me. I am a beach girl at heart. I have had the opportunity to live inland, you know I've lived in Dallas, I've lived in St. Louis. But I am a beach girl, so I always find myself in the east coast, at least, living on, near some water, at least within five to 10 minutes of water. So this is the kind of layout that's gonna go in my office and is gonna hang up on the wall. I don't have to worry about it being bulky, though. All the little extra pieces that were added, it's digital, so, I can run my fingers around it, it doesn't matter. The other thing is, is that I don't want to ever hang a picture of the ocean. That's just not my style. I might take a picture and put it in a frame. But I like things that are really creative and decorative around my office. So I'm gonna jazz it up, and that's what this layout does. The other thing is this lighthouse. This lighthouse has significant meaning to me. Now, I'm gonna tell you, it's not because it's the lighthouse that I remember, it has something to do with historical times, and it replaced another lighthouse out in Virginia Beach. If you guys know anything about this, then help me out, but whatever. This lighthouse has significant meaning because this is where I lived all my life. I was raised in this area, and when I was a little girl, I had to go visit this lighthouse. When my daughter was born, and, well, when she got into fourth grade, they had to visit this lighthouse. This is a specific lighthouse that I will always remember as being my hometown. So this is my hometown layout. So when I look at this, no matter where I move, no matter what crazy houses people shut me inside of, I will always remember this is my hometown layout. So that's why this layout is important to me, and the beach that you actually see, all these pictures have been taken by me, this was my beach, this is the beach that I have lived at all my life. And when I was five, I visited this beach for the first time and my daughter sat in the same spot and visited this beach. So this layout has meaning even though, when you look at it, you're just going, well we're just learning about techniques. No, no, no, no, no. This is a really special layout to me, so I'm so excited to share it with you guys. And I will try my best to recreate it as best as we can. But even if we can't recreate it perfectly, you have all of the steps in the workbook to be able to do it, it's the last part, there's only a few pages, so it's not as technique-heavy, but it is a lot of work, so let's get started.

This class is FABULOUS! Tiffany is very knowledgeable and was extremely well prepared. (I watched the entire class from 9 to 4 today, August 18, 2016.) She speaks clearly and is easy to understand. She does move quickly through the material, so I would recommend buying the class so you have unlimited access to the videos. The bonus materials are great! This class is well worth the money. However, the class is probably for those with at least intermediate skill in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Beginners would probably find it overwhelming. I will add that the class is well suited to anyone interested in digital art as well as those who do digital scrapbooking.

love love love this class...Tiffany is an awesome teacher. She has really organized this class to provide maximum value to the audience. Being a paper crafter and digital scrapbooker, the instructions/ideas Tiffany has shared will definitely help me to take my work to the next level.

What a fun class! I've been doing digital design for over four years but learned so much today! Tiffany Tillman-Emanuel is a very competent instructor, was very encouraging, and stressed that there is more than one way to do something in Photoshop and the importance of discovering our own style...highly recommend purchasing this course along with her class on compositing for digital scrapbookers...I got a great deal on both. BTW, I am not a scrapbooker but create and sell digitally painted background and art journal papers, so there's something for everyone in this class!
