Live Shoot: Parents With Newborn - Final Pose In Clients Home

So parents were going to come back in we may need to put a wipe on their feet because we're going to do baby feet and just work on some of the little details um so how many's poses timmy next how many poses would you do with a baby and it's like okay well I'm gonna do the whole family and you do mom baby dad and baby but remember this is just half of a session right that's how we're doing and so I got all of that now I did baby wrapped in the beginning now I did baby wrapped in a different wrapper then I would do probably one more on the bed and what would it be naked naked but what we're gonna do is we're gonna do baby feet and so we bring we have wife so they say parents clean your feet and this is sometimes hard shot to dio on dh sometimes it's great and sometimes it's just really not great so don't kill yourself if it like sucks ninety nine percent of a hundred just sometimes you just nail it right don't you think it's one of the shots where it's not always great but I'd like to tr...

y it I can take it how we feeling it's a good look no lights what do we have? We have a bed a doubt you could get a down comforter from my kia and put it in your suitcase right we've used to raps I mean this is simple is it gets that was my whole intention of this segment people were saying why are you what are you going to do a creative life that you haven't done already and I said I want to bring it down and make it simple so everyone who's at home and natural light and you don't have a studio and you don't have fancy lights get yourself a riffle how much are these reflectors fifty fifty bucks hey is this a folks are asking about the c section is this a typical pose that you would probably go to if there was a c section is a good question let's address that let's do that real quick before we do the feet so if we're doing a c section good mom come a permanent let's do it good family pose if we had a c section s o with c section I would tell mom you're going to come up here and I would say if how are you comfortable either crisscross or on the side I'm a crisscross girl on ly because I'm a yoga girl so my whole thing even with a c section this this felt good to me but she's an address so that's not going to feel good to her but I would say that one of the poses could be this and dad come on honey okay so so she could be like this okay and you can even put something over her but if she doesn't feel good like that then I would say just off to the side that's going to set up wow I'm thinking we use a rap okay so it would be like look oh thank you together so it could be like this and then that should be easy on her c section because it's pretty deep scar so you're going to turn more and sit so let's do that pose real quick don't move done all right so let's do that now let's think about maybe we do diaper cover like we're going to go naked so mom very important this part of your body is where you're sitting on no blues good or pants what about those great pans? The bottom yeah thes gray pants might mice my sewer just made him out of scrap material I mean we have adorable things from vendors that will show in the props segment but I'm going to show you how easy okay, this is this is all of this it's not a big deal there's cute things that you could buy that will tell you later but this is just people are going to say where'd you get these I mean she made him out of scraps okay so do you feel comfortable sitting criss cross because or do you wantto do the legs the other way? Men it's it's kind of how does that looks weird how are you sitting the other way for a second you were like that that might look okay the problem is your lego is going to come out of the frame so yeah okay I'll take that me up a little bit I'll take that and then fix your collar seer all tatted up there we could strip you down and go naked and do like to keep things with the tax but we won't do that on this segment but like anyone who loves tattoos like oh the possibilities are endless except for screaming lady probably think of her when you were going to get pregnant she probably was not on the radar you may want to turn her into a flower a little later on oh my okay she's like right there on the arm I do like this one my little pony that what it is like my little pony okay so you're being a trooper camden is such a good baby honestly I got to tell you most of our baby's air like this and people always say you know my babies are all screamers look back why well can we talk about the assistant real quick it's you know I didn't even know I needed an assistant until little slug until the lab that I was working with approached me this was during the film days and said show your butt you little just a little smaller babies the lab that I worked for during my film days said he had a daughter in college and did I need any help because she needed one hundred twenty hours of internship to graduate and I was like, sure and that began that was when I had olivia that began eleven years of working with assistance and he's passed and I did not even know I needed one to be honest with you because I was by myself, I don't like his hands too figure out that out I was by myself schlepping my stuff and I gotta tell you, I look back, I wish I was like being filmed at that time I probably to really dumb I got it, we're going to flip him over on his tummy, then we won't have the hands thing here's my issue with this pose and under you really see it, but where it's like their hands are always in their face and then you spend shoulder you spend the whole time trying to do this the easiest cure for that get ready with the passive narrative is flipping on his tummy. Now we do have the whole shorts issue, but we're going to fix that too, because then it takes him away from wanting to suck his hands and most babies love their tummy can you get his hand under his face? I can't reach that far on dso okay, so this is what began and I've learned a lot over the years and one thing I've learned that is if you have some help even if it's just to do what tiffany's doing even if it's to clean up to unpack your car while you're talking to the client mom needs to scoop her arm or if you're in an angle, go more under um if it's nothing else that sometimes if I'm nervous when I'm going to a client I have support and I have someone that's going to say it's okay, you can do this because sometimes you get so wrapped up you're so stressed out you're like running late you're unpacking I forget things I forget things all the time and so yeah well these will fit him probably fine can we meet stripping? I can try it so there have been times like tiffany have seen she's done in a couple of times did you see that? Did you see that? No, I I didn't see that at all and then I go home kicking myself like why didn't I see that if you have someone just looking over your shoulder and just saying hanna it's gotta be someone that's got your back that's willing to work with you and it's not like I pre planned everything so when I get to a home or when the clients come into my studio I you know, half the time I've never even met these clients because they're new and then half the time they're returning clients but every baby is different I can't predict with the baby's going to dio and so I just feel like in my opinion, every newborn photographer should have an assistant that's the way I feel and how you find them is so many different ways you could go to colleges, get internships, baby sitters, nannies anyone that works in child care preschools make the best assistance because they know they have the reflexes to work with babies and children need pretty good reflexes. And so stephanie, who came in as an intern, worked at kitty candidates and was working in a preschool and she was faster than I wass I mean, she was wait it's probably more experience with kids and I did it was really fast and so she was like jumping and come on and she we still call her are you best intern ever? And we ended up hiring her and she still helps us out. But look for people that love babies and children to work with children could be stayed home months but just need a little extra income you wanted you made me really frank about something let's say you mean you were in session is two hundred ninety nine dollars okay, that's a fact let's say that the person that's helping me is twelve dollars an hour I mean, tiffany makes more than that but let's just say for someone who's assisting let's say twelve to fourteen dollars an hour let's say it's a two hour new morn session really? Twenty eight dollars, really? So when people go, I can't afford it. You can't afford not to. Tiffany doesn't assist me that much in my sessions anymore because she works with my clients. And that, to me is so much more important. And now we have new people that come in and wrangle with us but important jobs like this and celebrity clients, I try to take her as much as possible because she's like my safety like she knows me so long, but we also train girls all the time, right? Ok, you guys right? Lean on in there. Oh, yeah, very. Where is god? Hey. Ok. And how? Hey, sonny joke. Just kidding. Okay, here we go. You guys all right? Look right at me. I don't know about dad. Okay? Well, let's, just you're testing testing. I always test. Whoa! I always test with the pasta fire in I could probably stand back and do eighty five, okay, I think I got it got it, I'm questioning the legs I'm going to say let's shoot it and oh I can't see baby uh okay I got it dad let's think about this what if your I need you a little higher because I feel like you're a little low in the bed what if can you can you sit like this and baby amon is losing mom mom's gotta lift up and lean on his knee qingqing can you lean on your his knee okay I like that you kind of look like a ten year old boys have to fix you but nicole can you lift up more and get and then eric let's support her a little bit she's dying under there you're almost done you guys we're almost done leaning you guys there trooper you're oh we got it we got this look at this promise done we got it good let's get the pants let's curl the leg I like it bring your arm lean and more you no longer look like a ten year old boy this's good. Nicole lived up through torso as much as you can and lean forward to me a little bit more yes, and up up up you have to direct them constantly right? Good, good good because they don't know what they look like you're like sweating and you know like an air colleen yes yes okay, now we just need light up light and we got it I'm ready you know I was just looking at me like yeah you're clean in a little bit well they're clean in the head a little bit and nicole knows her angles and she's like I was good eric turn chain a little more mm yeah you almost got it chin this way I'm looking at my fingers chin that way yeah and head in a little bit yes yes yes yes, yes all right nicole just pull out from his shadow a little bit yes, yes yes okay, here we go even more forward nicole I'm losing you back there well, that looks pretty good lift up through torso in chin down like it people okay, here we go. So cute oh my gosh. Whoa ok, sorry ok, look down a baby good smiling big smile yes and look at each other got it? You're gonna nuzzle their eyesight okay? We're gonna strip him right here don't move. We'll end with baby feet how we doing questions how we feel it has the internet internets doing great over here. Yeah. Yeah. So we definitely have the handful of questions. Let me just pop one up for you. Anna um this is this is, you know, new to since you've been a creative live last, his folks are able to vote on questions so there's a little blue era that they can click on and never most highly voted question was this is from air sea botto how many images do you shoot and how many do you deliver? Who depends on the subject? Ok, newborn I would say on average probably two hundred fifty two, three hundred how many I'll shoot and how many I'll show seventy sixty seventy we sell a lot of books books have been my number one seller for a solid ten years I mean solid we big fan of books, pregnancy, newborn books, newborn books, coffee table books gosh, almost every clime vice books don't you think canvas for sure big, big fan of canvas over the crib but people go oh my god! She shows seventy images well, forty go in a book and minimum on dso naked. If it's like I'm going crazy session, I wouldn't shoot more than four hundred I would say under even under three hundred but seventies definitely the average if it's keep in mind if you had children like if there's three or four children, I'm going to shoot a lot more, but I probably will not show more than one hundred images, but I know that a lot of people say, oh, I only show like, twenty and I'm like, ooh, if I have to me it would not be it has happened even very recently it's rare if I show less than fifty what do you think it's like not even enough even then too many session yeah even then you'll go who really is that it right sometimes ago because she does a lot of ordering if I'm a brooke I love to edit I love to edit down meaning I don't love to edit nobody does but I mean I like to edit down so there's dad let's put him in this right arm so there's not duplicate poses okay you're doing so well she took that foot in there you're almost done you're doing so well this tuck it in the other way yeah, your list good and so you're going to go in here yes beautiful and this hand is going to go under go right up under sorry right you're gonna hold yeah and that way you can kind of support each other let's get that hand out when you got a strong fist little guy she's like yeah he does hey okay ssh okay. Rock, rock rock nothing bad is happening, okay? Right there you can do this. Yeah, okay it's hard I'll be so quickly but relaxing this shoulder I'll be really quick he got a hold like right here if you guys start stressing he's going to start stressing so just just try and relax they focus I will be two minutes we're going tow just stay huddled like that looking at baby and you're gonna look up a mean you're done and love the huddle stay right in there just just right there beautiful you're almost there just that one leg tiff is going behind he's like hanging huh look at him he's like totally hanging by a tree when he was so cute in the front yeah if I hold here get going move bottom babies want their head and feet to be secure and so if if they're not secure they're going to fuss they have their head in their feet at all times have to be secured there's nothing holding mom hold on right there there you go you got it you got it perfect beautiful stay huddled pull dead shirt down we got it but one wrinkle tiff sorry and you can't see in the front the bottom yeah, I'll do a safe shot and then we'll pull ready yeah got it beautiful smile you guys love it gorgeous look right up at me more lift up a little bit more nicole had this way yes, eric lena got it. Thank you. We'll try and defeat I could do just baby alone real quick andi you guys get your composure and we'll do feet and we got it you know what? Why don't we do right on the edge let's put a little pee pad underneath him? Um another question do you charge a fee for home shoots you khun stay right there you two yes we charge one hundred dollars more and are we going to talk more later today about what you do with siblings that's a whole other segments ignition straight over there I can try we need like like thirty days of newborn boot camp or something because there's so many different aspects right don't you feel like we need like we need more we need more um I can tell you this with siblings because we do a lot of siblings almost every shoot has siblings, right? I mean it's rare when I just have a baby without a sibling then I'm like easy shoot just a newborn that's all I got um I can tell you a couple of things I have a play area and so we sh we tell clients that baby they can go and just play in our studio and you know, people say oh, I don't have the space for a play area hey no excuses my first studio was five hundred square feet and talk about no room was gonna fix his fingers and I have a play area and you guys got out of baby feet excited e have a play area and we tell them to just play and we bring them into the pose so a perfect example is where baby was just laying on bed we'd say we got baby let's bring toddler in and we'd have tattler run up on the bed we probably stick a cheerio underneath the arm baby looks over for the cheerio we got the shot back to the play area that's usually how it works. There you go, children wanna one with newborns and in that shell that was your class. Okay, we're gonna do one more and we're done. Maybe when you think camden amy, you can ask me a last question if you want. I would love that. What viewing software do you use and where do you best like to do it in the client's homes or in your own studio? We use light room way just got a ton of light. We use light room and we usually do them in our studio. Yeah, parents leaning in together um, we usually do in our home, but we do offer free in home ordering appointments. I'm sorry. Wait, what was I saying? I don't even know wade do them in our studio using light room on a big mac and we do offer ready when you are free complimentary in home ordering appointments in which we bring a laptop and light room we'll keep her for anna just one or the other cell more do you notice um uh depends on the client because honestly the way I look at it, a client has a budget we can legally. A client has a budget, regardless, to be honest. And I think I'm going to sell the same, whether I'm in the home or in the studio, because at the end of the day, he's. Good. The client has their own budget. I do like being in the home cause I can see their space. But I think I sell justus much either either way.

I really liked this course. As someone new to newborn photography, I learned so much valuable information such as using Aquaphor - which has saved me a ton of time editing, session flow, as well as not getting overwhelmed with having a thousand props. I didn't really find using natural light to work so well during my first newborn session after these videos. It offered some beautiful lighting and was much more soothing for the baby than having flashing lights, but once that appointment is booked, relying on natural light to be there the day of can be so nerve racking. Also, I didn't like how high I had to have my ISO using natural light through windows. However, I will say that if there are big windows and lots of light coming in, I will use it, but I would recommend planning for that not working out for you. Thank you so much, Ana, for a great class. I grew so much because of your guidance!

Loved it! Very detailed and great posing tips, good prop sources and the best only with natural light.
