Enjoy trying to get his facebook to work so you can use his presets. If you pay for classes you should not be required to tip the instructor just to learn from a place that charges you to bleeping learn

Even today, in 2021, Jack's teaching and methods are still worth the money. However, it is disappointing that throughout the course he uses (and speaks about) plugins, presets and actions that are supposedly provided to the paying viewer, but are not included in the downloaded assets. He repeatedly makes mention that the BETA presets are for anyone and everyone, but his full-versions (which you do not receive) are for those of us who have paid for the class. In addition, there are actions which are included in the download that require plugins and presets which are not. Everything should be included in creative live's download. I would still recommend the class for its teaching and content, but not if you are expecting to be able to reproduce exactly what is demonstrated in the class without making your own way.

I trying to learn how to paint flowers in PS and it seems the only show in town is Rosie Lalonde. Her classes are so Unaffordable and I was hoping this class fit the bill, but it is not at all like the kind of stylization I was looking for. Google Rosie and you'll see her amazing Painterly Flowers. Very very disappointed...guess I better start saving up to take Rosie's classes

Wow!! I really learned a lot from Jack Davis lessons. He is a wonderful teacher and I would love to learn some more from him. Unfortunately he seams to have disappeared from the earth. I can't find anything anymore. His website is abandoned, his Facebook is not updated anymore and I wish I could find some more video tutorials and actions, bushes, textures etc. Good knowledge of Photoshop helps following the course. Some of the provided actions don't work anymore. If you know how the replace a step in an action, you can change for instance, the oilpaint filter step and point to its new location in newer Photoshop versions.

I am still saying 'Of Course!' at this point because it is good information that Jack is putting out. However, he puts a lot of time into talking about actions and presets and tools that can't be found.

  • Daryl C. Oct 30, 2018

This is a great course, though the supplied actions do not work correctly due to changes with the oil paint filter in some later versions of Photoshop CC. This can be easily fixed by editing the actions and recording the new oil paint filter with the settings that Jack mentions in the course, in place of the old oil paint filter. You will need to do it for each action individually that uses the old oil paint filter. After editing the actions they have worked fine with all recent versions of Photoshop.

There is a tremendous amount of valuable information in this course, the problem is knowing where it is and when it will pop up. More on that later. There is no question Mr. Davis is a tremendous subject-matter expert in this subject, that is both painting and then simulating it in Photoshop; so much of his instruction provides major insights into the power of Photoshop. For someone interested in the subtlties of creating art in Photoshop that go way beyond slaping on a surface filter or plug-in and calling it a day, this is the course for you. There are two challenges I'd suggest for those who might buy this course. First, have a pad/notebook and pencil (with an eraser) with you at all times. Mr. Davis has a tendency to ramble making the process of comprehension difficult. Don't get me wrong, it's all there, but not always in any particular order requiring the student to re-play and re- re-play the video to sort out a sequences that builds a logical story. Without that pencil and pad you'll go crazy trying to find order in the process flow he's trying to teach. With them you'll eventually create a picture that's golden. I had too many college professors with the same distracting habit so speak with some experience. The second is, don't talk to me like I'm an adolescant at a Saturday night woobanger. Once or twice it was cute, but after a while grated on my nerves, especially when using words with questionable sensibilities. We've outgrown that so let's move on. On whole I would recommend the course but caveat emptor.

What a phenomenal course! Thank you Jack Davis! You are a gift to the industry, giving us the secret tools we never knew existed. I can't believe I did not find this course sooner. I have been wanting to take my portraits to a new level, and the tools and knowledge provided here are invaluable. Great course. To anyone deciding on this course, you will learn many more tips and tricks beyond just painting skills. This course is so worth it.

Jack is a true artist and a great teacher! I loved this class. The presets are a huge bonus. Yes, the presets will load into Photoshop CC 2018, but some of the actions won't work until they are updated for CC 2018 (which I did - not a big deal). If I could give this class two thumbs up I would. I have learned so much!!

  • Andrea S. Feb 24, 2018

A student recently mentioned that the resources didn't work. I was able to load all of the brushes, presets, actions, ect without any issue while using Photoshop CC. I hope they are able to get their issues resolved, because the results are well worth the time. I've loved the class!

I think this course works with PS CS4, CS5, CS5.5, and CS6. I'm pretty sure it doesn't work for versions before that, and unless Jack has updated the actions he uses in this course then the techniques presente here won't work in PS CC. That said, I absolutely love this course. I first took it when it was live, and I turned a dozen or so of my favorite photographs as well as another dozen of "what if" photographs into paintings. They are among my favorite works of all time. Jack's teaching style in this course is to dole out little bits and pieces of technique over many segments, interspersed with examples, why's, good didactic repetition, and stories. It might drive you crazy if you try to sit and watch just while taking notes. It's the perfect course to watch while you have PS open, and once you've watched one or two repetitions, then pause and try it yourself. Jack's techniques rely just as much on his custom PS actions as they do on actual PS skills. The actions come as part of the course. The obvious downside is that these actions only work with specific versions of PS. The optimal version is CS6, because what's what Jack used to make the actions. He presents the course in a great order though, so those who still use CS4 can follow the course for a very long while before Jack presents an action that only works in CS5 or newer. Same thing for CS5; eventually you get to the actions that work only in CS6. And then in PS CC Adobe removed some of the features the actions are based on, and then, well, game over. The other downside is that since it's just as much action-based as PS skills based, then if you don't use the techniques for a long time you forget how, which actions, what order, etc. At that point you need to go back to the course. Since the whole workflow is spread out over many, many different course segments, it's difficult to find just the bits of course that you need to do a finished work. Suggestion: once you've done the whole process a couple times, WRITE IT DOWN!!! Then if you forget you don't have to rewind and search through the whole course to figure it out again. I love the course it's genuinely one of the reasons PS CC has no hold on me. I could use both CS6 and CC of course, but given that I only want to use on version of PS, so far (we're talking July 2017 here!!) CC has nothing I want to do that beats Jack's painting technique. Maybe one day I'll learn how to use Corel Painter properly (I tried, and it was so hard for me!); then I'll move to CC. In the meantime, is CS6 + Jack + me, baby!!!

Jack is wonderful with what he does. I had almost given up learning this technique of painting photographs after taking two other online video classes with other sites. In addition to demonstrating and explaining the painting techniques, Jack gave me insight to maneuvering around in photoshop, ACR, and Lightroom. He has a wit about him that added to the enjoyment of the class. Because Photoshop had been updated after this video was produced, the oil filter preset action did not work. I messaged Jack and he was quick to respond, send me a link to an updated action, and answered any questions I had. It is easy to see that he loves what he does. I was sad to see the class end and immediately started searching for another class to subscribe to. Can't thank him enough.

I was so excited to see this class on sale last week, as I watched the orignal broadcast, and have watched bits and pieces here and there of the rebroadcast. Since I'm a photographer and not a painter, I was fascinated by Jack's easy teaching style and have been inspired to learn something new, since I'm not intimidated by a blank piece of paper. I really like the look of the finished product, already own the tools, and plenty of archived work to practice on, so I bought the course. I'm really happy I did, since I frequently need to "rewind-replay-rewind-replay" as I'm practicing on one monitor while class is on the other!

The man knows his stuff and he communicates with passion for his subject. Was never bored and I'm looking forward to subjecting some of my large portfolio of digital images to the new possibilities of a digital paint job. It's not likely I would have gone this route without have viewed the course and seen Jack's expert instruction, tools, and techniques in the detailed action that this class format permits. Old dogs can, in fact, be taught new tricks, and enjoy the process to boot.

Okay, I'll be first. Jack has an easy, approachable way of teaching. It was more like being in the room with him, watching over his shoulder as he created something utterly new and exciting. Even when he worked on images he had done many times, I never sensed boredom or a lack of enthusiasm. He was patient with questions and answered them completely. I hope Jack enjoyed this way of teaching as much as the world enjoyed watching. Maybe he'll find more to share. I know I'll sign up for his next one. This workshop inspired me to start creating art again. I'm slowly losing my sight and sad to say, I was starting to let it get to me. As I watched Jack, I tried just a few things and realized that I can do this. Digital art is much easier for me than pencil and paper because of the technology. I miss the pencil and paper drawing, of course, but this is so much FUN! The techniques that Jack shared are wonderful and the results rockin' ... or as Jack says, bitchin'. Thanks to Jack and creativeLIVE I'm back in my head in a good way.

I enjoyed Jack's class very much. Not only did I learn about painting with photoshop, but I enjoyed learning about the special "Mickey Mouse Club Handshake" features that are sometimes hidden within PSCS. I look forward to getting the bonus materials that come with the purchase of the class so I can watch the videos again and follow along with the samples.

Thank you Jack Davis. Having tried to paint, both in the real and digital worlds, this is the first time I have seen a comprehensive demonstration of the techniques and philosophy for the artist. This course is valuable for any aspiring artist, digital or otherwise. By the way thank you CreativeLIVE for the long form training space you offer both the teachers and students. Jack is inspirational, talented and sometimes funny. Watching him paint in real time is by far the most impressive sight but the information about why is more valuable. Overall this course will give you ideas, knowledge and skills (if you practice). I highly recommend this course for anyone that has tried to paint in the past and was underwhelmed by the results.

  • D. Aug 18, 2013

Enjoyed the class very much. Not only did I learn about painting in PSCS, but also special "Mikey Mouse Handshakes" for things in PSCS that are not readily apparent. Have only had LR about a month so still learning about it. I purchased Jack's class on LR after watching it and now maybe I can get it all put together. Jack is a great teacher and I look forward to getting the bonus class materials that he mentioned would be available after the classes were over so I can practice along with him.

  • D. Aug 17, 2013

I enjoyed this class a lot, and learned a lot, not just about painting, but about special "Mickey Mouse Handshakes" with some of the features of PSCS6 and LR5. I am new to LR, and I have purchased Jack's class on LR, so now I just have to go back and watch the videos as I work along with his exercises. I am looking forward to getting the class materials that Jack mentioned would be available soon for this class.

This class is utterly amazing and exactly what I've needed. I knew the tools were there, but Jack really shows us the *techniques* to make our own masterpieces. Buying this course was a no-brainer!
