We're going to talk about all the new features that aaron camera raw, incidentally, are almost the identical newsfeatures in light room five because light rooms develop module is really camera, so there you go so let's, go ahead and double click this first image, the first new feature in camera raw that I want to show you is called the upright feature, and while it is ever so cryptically named, at least in my opinion, it is very, very handy, so we're gonna double click this image and you can see right off that it's got some problems first of all, it's a little bit cricket and my perspective isn't what I want. I really want that building toe look like it's flat, you know, and facing me not in perspective at a distance and before this new change in camera eight, there wasn't really an easy way to fix it. Yes, he could go into the limbs correction filter and tryto fix it that way, but it's a little bit more confusing and but in camera eight it's very, very easy, as is light rain five so w...

e've opened the image, we're just gonna play like exposures, fine, we're not going to color correct it, and what we want to do is come over here to the lens corrections panel in camera rock if you're in light one in five, then you would go to the develop module and he would scroll down until you find the linds correction panel and light rain five this feature works exactly the same way a couple of things you want to do first. First, you want to go ahead and turn on the automatic lin's profile corrections, because what this is going to do is let the new upright feature that I'm about to show you be a little bit more accurate, specifically to your camera and lens that used to shoot the image, so we're going to go ahead and turn on. Think of these as, uh, cameras, little helpers, her light rooms, little helpers going turn that on, then that's in the main profile tab in light room, these check boxes or just right there in that panel so you don't have ten form now. It's cruiser richard the color tab let's, go ahead and turn on remove chromatic aberration chromatic aberration is that little weird color fringing usually purple lee looking haze that you can get in areas of super high contrast, like white on black or black on white? Rather so say like the face of the clock, if we were to shoot a clock that's, why with black numerals if we zoomed in on those numerals? We would probably have a little bit of bluish your purplish color fringing that's chromatic aberration and that will get your stock image rejected in a hurry and stock photography sides we'll talk about that on wednesday so anyway you just want to turn on these helpers because what it does is it makes photo shop go out and get the lens profile for your camera in linz so that it's it knows what you shot this image with so that you can come over here to the manual tab and use the new upright feature so this is the new upright feature again in light room all of this stuff is this crew level in the linds correction panel in the developed module that hearing camera we have these old tabs so the first one is called a for auto and what auto does is it? Dis lets the it lets kamerad do whatever it thinks it needs to to straighten your image on a horizontal plane so with level it that way it will also try to hunt for vertical lines and it will make it level vertically. And if there's any perspective problems if it looks like it's tilted back then it will bring it forward and fix the perspective so auto does everything ok so let's go and click that and watch the image to see how it changes when that something so now we're straight we're straight horizontally vertically and we've got a perspective that I really wanted in the shot instead of it looking like it was tilted back towards the horizon so that's a that's auto so that may be all that your images need dialysis go ahead and take a peek at what the other three buttons deep and again if you point your mouse to any of these things camera tells you what they're going to do so now let's click the second button which is just gonna level it horizontally okay so here's here's our original click the little don't do this sign and now let's click the horizontal correction and you can see that really that works like a straightening tool like an automatic straightener isn't that handy so now let's go back to the original so now let's take a look at what the vertical correction does now in that interesting so in some of these corrections you're gonna have a little bit of the image that gets topped off so you could try to build that back with content aware that would be a little bit of a nightmare on this particular image because it's got so much detail in it you could try cloning it back or you could just cropped those parts out so now this one is really what I want but it doesn't look natural to me so this last button what it does is it fixes everything but in a more natural way if this makes it look a little bit more correct so again here's the before and there's the after so pretty amazing pretty amazing changes there ok, so let's take a look at lisa kind jumping with a quick question share as a photographer do you anticipate using that filter now and sort of step back because you know you're going to get a crop yeah, I absolutely would means just so easy I can't believe how easy it is so let's take a look at that again on another image now this one I've already opened in photo shop so I've used the camera as a filter to get at its upright controls so let me turn on the original there's the original cricket it isthe perspective is off a little bit from what I wanted to capture so let's go ahead and click to activate that layer and telescope to the filter min yoon first we're going converted for smart filters I'm gonna go back to the filter menu and since we ran the camera filter last we could just press commander control if to bring it up again in here we are so we could make our exposure changes if we want we could click auto and then we could just tweak those a little bit too darken the highlights and light in the shadows a little bit and that's a nice clarity clarity is great for rooms don't you think really makes that contrast pop really nice. Ok, so now let's, go ahead and try over to the lens correction pain in camera and we're going to come over here to this color tab now you'll notice that we have fewer tabs available then we did for the last photo. Why was that that's? Because we were dealing with a raw image. This is ajay pay, so I don't have quite as many controls for a j peg as we do for the raw images. So that's why you've got fear tabs, but to use thes upright features, go ahead and turn on any of these kind of auto fixers that you've got so in the color tab, we're gonna have removed chromatic aberration, go and turn that on this helps photoshopped or camera I'll do a little bit better job now is click manual animals e mails you can see and actually I lied to you a second ago this the day actually is the one that fixes everything so the horizontal, the vertical and the perspective but in a little bit more natural way. So I told you was that one but it's not a system right here that's ok to see which one of those looks best to you so first let's try the auto and see what that does, so we've got a straightening in a little bit of a problem perspective fix so we'll turn it off, and then we'll come over here to fix the horizontal lines. And that may be all you need really for this one it's kind of all we need, but just so you can get an idea of the different things. So this one is fixing the vertical the level and vertical or horizontal and vertical rather. And this one is doing everything full of perspective correction, leveling both horrors horizontally and vertically. And sometimes this is the one that may not look quite as natural to you as thie otto. So just give it a try and see which one looks better to you. I am going to have quite a bit to crop out, but that's finally stop saved the image, at least in my opinion. So that's the new upright controls and again, they were exactly the same way in light room five as they do here in camera raw. So that's a heck heck, I have a great time saver there, and if you have any doubts of whether or not photoshopped really made everything straight? If you've got some nice vertical lines in your image or horizontal lines and we've got, uh, definitely some nice vertical lines, you can turn on this grid to really check the accuracy. Of what this new feature did. So in some photos, it may not look like things you're straight, so if you doubt it, just turn on this grid and as we can see here, look how straight those columns are now straight is that, you know, is there going to get so that's a nice little feature to you to turn on that show grid? And if you don't like any of the results of these automatic fixer uppers that we've got here, then you can turn them all off and you can do it all manually exact same controls right here as sliders so that you can adjust these things if you really like to take matters into your own hands, you can adjust the manually using these controls right here. You just want tio, you know, turn everything else off or you could leave those on and then this fine teen using those sliders so all kinds of flexibility there, which is really great. So now let's, take a look at another image same kind of thing this one really does needs. Straightening is all this is a shot of pompeii. This is a lot of fun, because first of all this three thousand years old oh my gosh, this was all buried under ash from the cvs vesuvius erupted in seventy nine, eighty think about how long ago that was but this city day it's about teo like sixth century so that would be about five hundred b c you know so twenty five twenty six hundred years old so anyway this is a street and these little stones in the middle of the street is an ancient crosswalk because what would happen is that in the rainy season a bunch of mud and sludge and trash and probably all kinds of other unsavory things floating down the street well how are you going across the street without getting into all that you hop auntie these big stones isn't that brilliant thought that was really cool and the number of stones tells you if it's a two way street or a one way street to stones means it's a two way street one stone let's the terri it drivers know that it's a one way street that's right that's what you learn here in this creative class? Okay, so let's let's say we wanna mess with this image and we just want to straighten it real quick. Well yeah, we could go grab the crop toole grab the level, drag it out on the image and then photo shop would rotate it but you could just use the camera filters well convert for smart filters camera raul filter come over here to the lens correction tab and then since we know that we really only stay you need to straighten that whore horizontally just click that sudden bucket right there and it's done so here's our before and her after easy peasy and of course because this is a camera and we're using it as a smart filter so everything's nondestructive we could come in here a year from now pop, open this filter and turn that off if for whatever reason we needed tio so very, very flexible there click ok there they were done they were all straightened happy so that sister a couple of ways you might use that feature now the next image that I'm gonna open up for you also displays another new feature in both camera in light room actually and what we're going to do is use camera roz spot healing brush typically in previous versions of camera and light room you could only click with the spot hailing brush or spot removal brush it was just for fixing spots well a camera and light rain five you can click and drag with it, which means that you can easily fix things that aren't round clone them out so to speak so if you look at this image actually I don't think I have the after here for you, but we'll do it anyway I go and turn that off okay, so what we're gonna do is turning into a smart filter right filter convert for smart filters trot back up to the filter menu open the camera ralph filter and now we're going to grab the spot will move a brush and it's this guy right here user for fixing spots give it a click the area that I want to fix isn't ground and I'll zoom in so I can make this big enough for you guys to see it I want this person out of my shot but maybe I'm short on time and I don't really want to have a go with photo shops clone tool I just wantto click and drag and paint so when I'm going to do here is just click and drive with it and camera gives you an outline of the area and then you release your mouse button and it chooses an area in which to copy from now depending upon how good of a job did you congrats the pin so it's showing me in red this is the area that it's fixing and the area in green is telling me the source of the photo that it's using for the fix I can move that how do I do that? Just click and drag that little green pin and so it will move the area that photoshopped using to copy so that's a neat new thing using back out so again we'll do that one more time so here we are with an image that needs something cloned out and we can make it a smart filter we already did that will come back up to the filter menu choose camera ralph filter come into this spot removal brush and before all you could do was make single clicks with this tool but now we can click and drag with it which is that I saw go down and brush science by using my bracket keys and we can just click and drag to pain across the area that we want to remove it footage shot doesn't get kamerad is a good job of guessing which area to use as a sample then great if not then we can click and drag to move that point around to wherever is going to do a better job of making that area disappear so that is really really cool another way to use that when he closes image and opened up another image is toe let's say that you're hunting for since her spots he had some dust on your sensor so here's a shot I got in cairo with years ago and I've got some spots going on in the image right since response dust so let's go grab the spot removal brush and let's say that I had clicked around and gotten all the spots that I could see well the other new option in the spot remover brush is this visualize spots check box down here this is also in light run five if you click it photoshopped turns your image into high contrast black and white really like a negative, and it illuminates the spots for you. So while looking at the image in full color, you may think that you eradicated all of the spots you may not have, so turning on that visualize spots is incredibly handy because then you can see all of them so you can use this slider, tio, adjust the threshold to show you more or less so isn't that interesting? So at this level, I'm really only seeing that one spot right here, and you could even fix him while you're in this view. So I may think I've gotten all the spots, but if I come down here and with visualize spots, turn on, I dragged this to the right, I see one, two, three, four, five more spot that I couldn't see in the full color image so I could come over here and quickly get rid of all those guys and there's even more down here. So that's really incredible to be able to visualize them in that way amazing her so that's the visualize spots check box, and then you can adjust the the threshold of the level of contrast that you've got going on in there in order to see all of them, so now I can turn that off. And I've got all my spots fixed even the ones I didn't know were in there so that's incredibly handy if you're sensor is a little bit dirty or dusty now the next thing that when I show you in camera raul is the new radial filter ok so in the camera what are we on eight cameras seven I think it's camera seven we got a grady and filter which allowed us to apply a natural soft gradation of changes in a kind of a band like manner case let me show you the one that we've had for a couple of versions this is a radio filter graduated filter actually so what it allows you to do is apply corrections in like a single rectangular band area been in a grady in kind of way gradual way so it's great for fixing things like skies if if your sky is a little bit overexposed and you might want to apply this graduated filter to just the sky part in the effects whatever changes you make over here in the right hand side what kind of fade out as it goes from top to bottom on your image well like that in camera a we have a radio filter which is really a circular graduated filter so how can you use that? Well this is it's icon here at the very top of the camera wrong window and we've got this also in light room five so here's the radio filter and what we're going to do is just click and drag to draw the area that the filter is going to be applied to our image and you can click and drag the little pin to move it around and what it does is it lets you apply changes to an area in your image it kind of like a soft circular manner so if we wanted this pyramid to be a little bit more to stand out a little bit more than the in the background I'm gonna make this a little bit larger even after I've john it here groups so you've got these little re sizing handles on it so let's say that's good so this is the area in which my changes we're not going to be applied and you can actually flip flop that so your changes can be applied to the inside of the radio filter or to the outer edges of the filter but what it does is it gives you that soft transition between your changes in the original image so that's come over here to the panel here and we'll scroll all the way down and this is where you can decide whether your changes affect the outside of your radio filter or the inside I think by default it said to outside but I changed it to inside so now we can come down here and we could apply different different effects. So if I wanted your eyes to really go to that part of the pyramid, I could do all kinds of things. I could pump up the clarity just on that part and again, it's only affecting this part in here, not this area, but there is a soft transition between the two areas. I could increase saturation that's changing just the area inside that filter was scroll up, talk at some of my other adjustments here I hate make exposer changes if I want to see how it's only affecting the inside obviously wouldn't go that far, but just for illustrative purposes. And then if you wanted to flip flop so that the fix happened on the outside, then you could just click the outside button. And so now everything that we're doing is affecting the outside of that month, the inside. So it just gives you a little bit more precise control in applying those gradual changes, no matter what they are, where there is exposure or if it's just clarity and saturation to really draw the eye to specific portion of your image. But it's really, really handy, so cancel out of that and take a look at that one we could do it on this image right here, so convert for smart filters, camera filter. And then again, we're going to grab this new tool right here, which is the radio filter does the same thing as the graduated filter, but instead of being in a rectangular band situation it's circular so go ahead and give that a click decide where you want the filter to be applied and then since we already had some changes over here before, they're still going on but to say any of these sliders back to zero just double click the slider itself and it sets them all back to zero so if I just wanted tio oh let's say lighten exposure a little bit in that area, then scroll down and I can see that it's happening on the outside and I can use these radio buttons to change it to the inside. So with that when you could even get a little bit of a a little bit of a vignette ing effect without adding extra color, you're just lightning or darkening certain areas so that's anything and that's also need in light room five any questions on that? And then when we come back we can go to more changes in food shop cool that looks like a whole class of itself yeah, right, so it will be in studio questions ok, these guys looked great compared to light room we did have a question and a few people were asking like where do you draw the line is to keep in light room keeping adobe camera robert what's your lite rooms develop module really is camera all right, so if you're doing it there there's no reason to go into camera at all so lie room is really bridge plus camera plus some other extra stuff, which is really great for output printing, web galleries and all that kind of stuff, so if you're doing the stuff in light and you would not do it in camera wrong, but if you're doing all that stuff in light room, when would you want to come in to photo shop when you reach something that you need to make a selection on? So because light room and camera have no selection tools so you would need to go into photo shopped at that point light room and camera I don't have any way to combine images, so if you were preparing an image to go into a collage and you would have to come in to photo shop so that's all to say that you don't always have to be in photo shop oftentimes light room or camera may be all that you need, so I always I use light room myself so I import and organize and sort with light room and then I do everything I can do there and if I have to go in the photo shop to do a quality head swapping your what have you that's when I take it in there, but I don't start out. And photo shop is a matter of course, because light room in camera are all cider based. So it's, just so much easier to use and non distracted by nature. And always get back to your original.
