Screen to Print
In the last two videos we learned all about typography both what it is, why it matters, and how to use it both in print and on screen. Now that you know so much about typography, one of the building blocks of communication design, it's time to start designing. This brings us to tool number three software skills. Primarily we use the Adobe suite. Let's start with Photoshop, Photoshop is what we use to edit images but because it's pixel based it can also be used for digital design. Next is Illustrator, Illustrator is used to create vector graphics, Vector graphics are just a fancy term for graphics that are built off of points and nodes. This means it can scale infinitely up and infinitely down without losing it's resolution. This is why you see logos being made in Illustrator because sometimes they need to go on a button but they can also go on the side of an airplane. Next, we're going to talk about Indesign. Indesign is used for setting type and publications but not just print publica...
tions. It can also be used for interactive pdfs and eBooks. In the next video we're going to talk about Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign both the basics and then how to use them together to bring your vision to life. Then we're going to do a deep dive into Indesign where we're going to apply your foundational typographic skills and begin to lay them out along with images and colors to create your first publication, so let's get started.
