Fundamentals of Photography
John Greengo
Master the close-up art of macro photography
Flowers are the perfect subjects for both beginning and professional photographers alike. Not only can they be found almost anywhere, but they offer a wide range of colors, textures, and shapes to explore and experiment with. But as perfect as flowers are for photography, the dominance of similar pictures makes it hard to capture a unique image.
This course takes you on an in-depth journey into the glories of flower photography, with expert photographer Kathleen Clemons as your guide. You’ll learn everything you need to know to take captivating shots that will wow your audience and celebrate the beauty of nature. Learn how to take flower photographs that stand out.
In this class, you'll learn how to spot the best flower to photograph with your naked eye, whether you want to capture artistic or documentary images. The flower will become the star of the shot as you learn to eliminate distractions in the background. At the end of the class, work confidently with fields of flowers and single flowers, at each stage in their life cycle.
Whether you have a Nikon, Canon, Sony, or mirrorless camera body, Kathleen will show you all the essential tools of flower photography, from macro lenses to plant clamps to extension tubes. She’ll cover technical details such as aperture settings and your depth of field, as well as stylistic issues such as composition, backgrounds, and close-up or macro shots. The course ends with a demonstration of a real shoot in a garden so you can see Kathleen in action as she takes different angles and close-up images of different flowers and flower petals.
Kathleen Clemons is a nature photographer known for her painting-like images of flowers. The Maine-based photographer works with Corbis and Getty images. While she's known for her photography, Kathleen also has a degree in education, which she mixes with her passion for flower to teach other macro photographers.
Gave me a new way of seeing from an artistic perspective. I can now embrace the blur!
When a e-book/class on frozen flowers?
I finished taking this course The Art of Flower Photography, and I did it in my record time, 2 days. Yesterday I stayed until 3:00 in the morning and I didn't want to stop, it was so wonderful I found it. Also, I was very impressed and pleased with Kathleen's knowledge. Thanks for sharing so much knowledge!
I am really enjoying. the class. Unf.ortunately most of the software mentioned in this course is unavailable now and I would really love a video on how to create my own textures to use instead of buying someone elses. Thank you, your work is inspirational.
Very informative class from the point of view of an artist. Concepts explained well with tons of examples. I'm so glad I took this course. Will be looking at flowers and backgrounds more carefully and from various angles now. I will also say that Ms Clemons' voice is pleasant and easy to listen too.
I appreciate Kathleen's style of explaining the story behind her images. It is helpful in opening up a new way to view flower subjects. I explored this class as inspiration in a completely different genre from what I actually shoot and I believe I'll have to give floral art a try, as well, just for the fun of it.
Wonderful class! I learned quite a bit and I am excited for the spring when I can get outside again.
I don't think I will ever look at a flower the same way again. In fact this class has taught me that I need to take the time to observe everything from different angles. I learned so much!
I’ve been taking flower photos for several years, but I realize now I wasn’t paying nearly enough attention to the background. This course helped me tremendously. Thank you!
I enjoyed this class. Lots of great tips. I can't wait to shoot some flowers.
I've been doing more flower photography this year and after shooting many hours I found and watched this course. Her work is very good. It was educational to learn how she creates her artistic views (not documenting). She's also clear and engaging. Very good.
Excellent course. I learned so much. Now I am going to use 180mm lens more, think about slective focusing, use f3.5, work the flower, taken the bottom of the flower, use diffuser, blur foreground, try different aperture and take both portrait and horizontal format, choose the background carefully and more.
As a macrophotographer i still learned a lot! Textures, creative techniques and much more. It's a very nice class to start with flowerphotography! Good job Kathleen!
Kathleen is one of the best flower photographers out there. She has the added bonus of being an excellent teacher and pretty much every sentence is packed full of useful information. I first watched this class a year ago, tried to put what she taught me into practice, and have just come back from a second viewing, which was totally worth it and I picked up all sorts of tips and tricks that I didn't take in the first time round. The only downside is that she has cost me a fortune buying new equipment!! This is one of the very best classes I've taken on Creative Live. There's no waffle and even the audience ask useful questions. Highly recommended.
Very useful Class Thank you
Awesome class with beautiful examples. I will probably watch it again.
Hi Kathleen thank you very much for this informative course. I loved every bit of it. Wonderful images.
Wow! This class came along just at the right time in my photography journey. I have been a hobbyist for a few years and after watching this excellent class, my heart began to sing with anticipation. I ordered my first Lensbaby (85mm Velvet) and have found real joy in photography. Thank you Kathleen for sharing your heart in this class and inspiring others to create their own creative Art!
I loved, loved this class. Very informative. Just wish she had a couple more classes. Very good teacher.
Enjoyed the class very much. I've applied what I learned to my work.
Excellent class and I learned so much! The examples shown are great, and the instructor is very knowledgeable and effective. I especially enjoyed the segment where she shoots in a botanical garden.
I am working my way through both Kathleen Clemons courses on Creative Live. Really getting a lot from them. I have spent most of my photography seriously working to get tack sharp photos. This is quite a departure.
I absolutely love this class as well as Kathleen's other class on Creative Live. I have learned so much and I want to thank Kathleen from the bottom of my heart for her inspiration and incredible generosity in partaking her knowledge. I wish I could have Kathleen as my next door neighbor, not just as a terrific photographer and teacher but also because she comes across as such a sweet, sensitive lady. Thank you so much for such a treat. Jocelyne Lebon
I really enjoyed this class!! it has gotten me out of my comfort zone by trying new things and compositions. I didn't know much about Kathleen Clemons until taking this class. But now I am a huge fan of hers.
I have mixed feelings about this class. It is obvious that Kathleen is passionate about her photography and it certainly shows in her work. I felt though that most of the class was just that, looking at her work. I would have hoped that there would have been a bit more technical explanation with the photos she showed us. It would have been nice if she told us about how far she was from her subject along with her camera settings with each photo. One can learn a lot from that. I noticed on the field trip when she was shooting the flowers and showing us the end result, I felt that most did not look like the slide presentation, so I wonder just how much post production work she does on her photos. I am a gardener and she had inspired me to shoot my flowers and this course has given me ideas on new compositions. Overall I am glad that I have this course in my library.
