The food in an image is quite another thing from food on a plate in front of you. Food photographers have the challenging task of recreating the many sensations that draw us to a good meal—its aroma, warmth, the anticipation of taste—using only one of the senses. To bring foods to life in pixels and on paper, Steve Hansen liberates them from the stationary plate. He captures them in motion, crashing and splashing into each other. Join veteran photographer Steve Hansen for this course, and you’ll learn:
  • How to capture your food in action by using the right flashes and strobes.
  • Which lenses and settings to use to capture your food and liquids in vivid motion.
  • The basics of post-processing for images of frozen motion, and how to enhance the image you take in-camera.
It will be fun and messy—the audience will be wearing slickers to protect their clothes from flying food and liquid. In addition to learning about the technical requirements for capturing food in motion, you’ll learn how to sell your images to editors, websites and magazines. Develop the confidence to bring more advanced techniques into your food photography practice, and make your photos stand out in the crowd.

Good lessons for starter like me. Thanks a lot!

I got excited when I saw this class as I love to learn more about food in motion but watching the free class intro ended it for me... I found it very irritating and distracting to hear so many "um's". When he starts a new sentence it's like waiting for a mozzie to bite . Sorry but I couldn't handle it, others may not have a problem.

Steve Hansen's jobs are very sophisticated but I couldn't see in this class it is very very basic and inadequate, when I was looking student jobs they are much more interesting then telling on class. I would like to take back my payment if possible

Haven't actually watched this class, but I would love to see how this trailer was done! Great job

The ad for this workshop is amazing. That's what I want to learn. Food in motion, as in video. I was worried this was only a photography class and it was. They did a nice job with it and I will use it. However, I"m still searching for a food video course. What would make this class awesome is if Steve came back and added a few modules to this course showing us how he captured the video ad for this course.

It sounds like too many people are mic'd and talking over each other in the Intro I listened to or else I would have purchased this class.. It was terribly distracting.

  • Z. Jun 27, 2016

This is a great class allowing you to see exactly what happens on a live shoot and knowing that it doesn't always happen with the first shot.

  • Natasha . Jun 26, 2016

Thank you Steve, this class is brilliant! I loved learning more about getting those movement shots.

This course is so fun to watch! I love how hands-on this course is even while watching it 3000 miles away on the other side of the country. I love how Steve Hansen is like a mad scientist just throwing food everywhere just to capture the "right moment". It's great to watch a professional at work especially the behind-the-scenes that we normally won't ever know just by look at the final product. It's amazing how much work goes into this and actually gets me excited to try my hands on capturing food in motion as well - first need to find a place that allows me to get it messy :D I do prefer this type of course set up than the lecture-style some of the other courses are.

I learned a lot , I had fun , and my creativity climbed to infinity and beyond ! Thanks Steve and Creativelive from Argentina !

Great class. Seeing live the challenges faced going through splashes & crashes was really very interesting. I always " assumed" the pro's get it at the first go. Seeing that even a pro needs to go at it a few times was an eye opener. Steve has got loads of patience in this field which clearly shows in his finished work. Yechiel Orgel

Excellent class to get you started in crashing and splashing food shots. Steve goes step by step through the techniques and tips for how to capture food in motion in two different styles. No holding back with working through real world trial and error to achieve the final image.

  • Marci . May 20, 2016

So many tricks and tips in this class. It's also great fun to watch Steve in action. In a few hours you get inspired to smash and splash at home. No reason not to do this at home.

I attended this class in person and I found it to be wonderful. Steve is awesome at what he does and he is great at explaining what he is doing and why he is doing it. This course will lay out all the steps needed to help you create awesome splash and crash photography. I highly recommend it.

This course will NOT disappoint! So much quality info that can really help a photographer move to the next level. To see the actual shoots with food flying everywhere and how to capture all of it and turn it into an incredibly stunning image is worth every penny of the price tag. To spend an afternoon with Steve on a one to one basis would cost more than most of us could afford but that is exactly what this class offers! We see into the mind of an incredible artist and his creative process. This class has been invaluable to my personal education as a photographer. There is so much here and I will continually come back to it again and again to learn and refine my techniques and images. You opened up a world of possibilities to me with this class! Thanks Steve!!!

Steve's course on capturing food in motion was a blast! Watching him in detail, step by step, from the initial plate shot to producing a final image was informative and inspiring. He shared two techniques, both different to capturing spills and crashes, from suspending pancakes with wire, tossing syrup in the air to breaking plates and throwing a crab boil across a table. It was beneficial for me to see what steps he took to achieve his final images and in ways that I had not thought of before.

This was an awesome class that showed everything from start to finish including the PhotoShop Compositing. There were some unexpected things which happened in the class and some mistakes and Steve just rolled with the problems and made them part of the photo. What a great class. The moderator/host was wonderful...interjecting and adding pertinent questions but was not annoying or over the top selling the class. I really appreciated her approach.

  • Leigh L. May 19, 2016

Steve's knowledge of splashes and crashes is brought to bear in this course. From walking you through setting up a splash-and-crash-proof workspace to building a composite image, Steve will arm you with all the information you need to create stunning in-motion images.

  • Donna . May 19, 2016

I thought this class was very interesting and a lot of fun. I really enjoyed learning the process of how to do these images from start to finish. Steve Hansen is great at his craft and I loved learning how to do this type of work.

  • Myriam D. May 19, 2016

Great class!! Fun but wih a lot of tips and info sharing, thanks!

  • User S. May 19, 2016

Too much in too little time. A balance between Photoshop and the set ups for crashes and splashes would be better. It could have been two days if both set ups were to be used. This is not about Steve, rather it is a lesson in how long it really takes to get the splash or crash just right. So maybe a follow-up class with Jack on the Photoshop part of it.

  • John E. May 19, 2016

Watching this live, it's such a fascinating process. Steve Hansen completely breaks down the process so that the layman can understand and more importantly so that someone could create these images on their own.
