Great class! I learned a lot from the lessons and Kirsten is really fun to learn from. Buy this course if you're interested in family documentary photography. You wont regret it!
I am a working photojournalist and a wedding photographer and this class was refreshing. Even as a 15-year working photographer I learned a lot in this class. Get the class it worth more than any piece of gear.
Kirsten is amazing. I have learned a TON from her two CreativeLive courses. Please bring her back to teach another course!
My favorite teacher on Creative Live hands down. :)
This was very helpful, thank you!
I've learned so much from this course. Thank you Kirsten!
I actually can't believe people are voting this down. This course was so comprehensive compared to what the title made me think this was about. I felt I got more than what I paid for and I found the critiquing incredibly helpful to my own work. I will be watching this again and I will buying more of Kirsten's courses. I love her to bits now.
Amazing class! I love how personal she makes it. Super inspiring. greatly recommend it.
Really hard to watch with so much personal information.
Another great class with Kirsten Lewis... thanks for your guidance and inspiration.. and thnx Creative Live!
One of the best classes I've had on CL. Honestly, I'm not really into family photography, but seeing previews and her works made me think that this could help me with visual storytelling/photojournalism and it really did. I learned a lot from this class. You can find classes that teach you all the technical stuff anywhere, but I can tell you it's not that easy to find good ones that teach you What to shoot, not How to shoot.
This has been my favorite creative live class so far! It's so easy to watch and learn from Kirsten Lewis. I've taken a lot away from her lessons.
This was very helpful. All of Kirsten's classes here are well structured and very informative. She is well spoken and excellent in bringing her point across. On top of that her passion for her job is inspiring.
Just one thing: thank you Kirsten!
It took me a while to get into this course--for some reason I found the lessons after the halfway point (particularly the critiques) to be the most useful--but once you're into Kirsten's rhythm, you're golden if this is a style of photography you're interested in, which I most certainly am.
I am seriously upset I am done watching this class – it was that awesome. It’s one of those classes that’s not just filled to the rim with great photography advice, it’s also lighthearted and just fun to watch. Kirsten also talks about topics with a lot of depth and really gives you something to think about. I had watched her first class on creativelive and was worried this one would be too similar but that wasn’t the case. It was great to see a full day in the life session and watch more critiques as well. I can not recommend this and her other class (Modern Storytelling) enough and hope you will enjoy it as much as I did!
Really loved this class. It was helpful to see her go through the process from waking up with the family to choosing the photos and presenting to the family. Excellent!
I found the photo critiques to be really useful when reviewing my own work.
Kirstin's teaching style is so energetic and honest that you can't help but connect with what she says. After doing documentary style sessions for a year and a half before watching this class, there were still so many major takeaways that I got from the class. Kirsten's lessons inspired me to be more introspective in my work, stick with a composition and shoot the hell out of it to achieve big impact moment photos (for quiet and loud moments), and to shoot more less often. All in all, Kirsten is a total rockstar.
I was lucky enough to attend this 2 day Creative Live course in person and it was just brilliant. It is an advanced course, so definitely more of a follow-on from her first Creative Live course and focused on full day-in-the-life sessions. At the time, I couldn't have imagined having the stamina or ability to document an entire day 14 hours straight, but that is exactly what I have been doing the past year and loving it. What I learnt on this course has really informed the way I shoot now and has helped me create much stronger storytelling images.
I love both of Kirsten's CL classes. She always has such a great perspective on how to shoot in all types of situations but staying true to documentary photography. I love how real she is about letting us get to know her. I feel like it's a great way to model how she connects with her client she to help her achieve real, genuine moments. There are so many amazing helpful tips, tricks and insights into how to shoot real moments. I can't say enough about these classes and how hiwfuk that are as well as it's do amazing to me to have someone who explains the type of photography that I have always adored and didn't know it had a place.
I learned so much from Kirsten. There is so much information even for more advanced photographers. Her teaching is definitely not superficial.
I loved this course as well as Modern Family Storytelling. If you are interested in family photojournalism or family documentary photography, and in capturing real, unposed moments and emotions, then this is the course for you. Kirsten's teaching style is authentic and personal, much like her photography. I feel that her stories about her own life experiences add to the course and help with the understanding of her photographic style, as well as understanding why you might want to choose a similar approach. I learned a great deal from watching her shoot, reveal and discuss the Day in the Life session with the family. Her critiques and business advice on transitioning to this style were also helpful to me in reevaluating my portfolio and making the switch to family documentary. If you are interested in family documentary photography, I definitely recommend this course.
This class literally changed my life. Kirsten not only is an amazon photographer, she is also a great communicator and when I started watching this class (I hadn't heard of her before taking this class and I didn't know there was such thing as documentary family photographer) I knew this was exactly how I wanted to approach family photography from now on. The course itself is amazing, there's lots of information and you can see how Kirsten shoots. I couldn't recommend it more.
I've learned a great deal from Kirsten. Her delivery is clear and I find myself repeating her key posts in my head whenever I photograph. Square up. Fill the frame. Get an image that tells a story.
