How to overpower the sun for great photos
Very good entry-level class. Very basic.
Excellent workshop Mike has an excellent style to always keeps you engaged and up to date on his camera/flash settings. There is no shortage of knowledgeable instructors who scream right by their settings, i.e. a key factor for the learning photographer. Mike will take a moment and explain how he 'builds' his settings, always explaining the settings and the whys. Outstanding. How, his one-handed MacGyvor macro flash technique, while impressive, just doesn't work for me as I can never hold things steady enough to take the shot :-) Something to aspire to? Highly recommend this course. Thank you
Covered all the important points in a clear language with great and easy-to-understand examples. Glad I took this class!
The course was exceptional, with the instructor's focused approach directly addressing the subject. I'm happy I joined this course and excited to use what I've learned.
I learned a lot of great tips and skills that will really help improve my photography. Great course with an awesome instructor! Thank you!
Concise and hits all the relevant points. Clear instruction and reinforcement during recaps.
I have several CreativeLive courses in my library. This is the first one that I followed through all the way. I just keep picking at the other ones. My Opinion on this class. I have j instantly became a better outside photographer than ever before. I have improved %150. Maybe more. I shot a graduation shoot for a client who got her Doctorate in Pharmacy. Everyone was amazed. I have always thought that my Outside portraits were the best ever. But NOW!!! Thank you Mike Hagen.
Great class to get you started! Highly recommend!
Awesome lesson!!
I truly enjoy mentoring and exchanging experience with other photographers. Mike's teaching technique makes him approachable and believable. Couple that with the format of buying a class that I can stop, rewind, and watch again is perfect for my comprehension abilities.
This class has so much good technical information. Lots of info about gear. It would have been nice if the class had started with photographic examples of outdoor available light photographs compared with the same outdoor subjects enhanced with flash, to show the improved esthetics with artificial light.
Excellent! Great teacher.
I have watched a couple of Mike Hagen's classes, and hope Creative Live will bring him back to teach more. He is a fantastic, thorough, easy-to-understand instructor. He doesn't assume viewers already know certain things. He is humble and diligent and truly wants students to understand and learn the things he is teaching. He breaks things down and explains things better than most, and he doesn't hold back on details. Mike also provides helpful handouts/written materials to supplement his videos. I really like his classes and teaching style, and hope to be seeing more from him in the future.
How do I go about downloading the videos? Do I need to buy the class?
Great class on flash. Very organized and a good flow. I would recommend this course to any photographer who uses flash for their photography.
This is my first class I've bought From creative live with Mike taking the class. I have other classes on flash photography but Mike is by far the best instructor. This class hasn't left me scratching my head with missing info or unanswered questions about using a speed lite. As a wedding photographer I now know how to get to a base exposure quickly when taking my group shots, because Mike has explained things very well. He makes it look easy, thank you Mike. Lots of extra info on modifiers, gels, etc. As with everything, you have to take this info, and practise, but it is great knowing Mike is right there along the way, reminding you that it's ok to screw up, and then refine.
Wonderful course like all courses of Mike Hagen! Great person! Thank you very much Creative live! I've learned a lot of interesting things!
LOVE this! I really learned a ton of info. I'm new to flash and have been using my on camera flash as the command for my off camera. I am so excited to learn how to control my off camera flash through the camera. So excited to try to put what I've learned into effect.
I started the class with the free, live presentation. Then I had to go out. I was so impressed with Mike Hagen's presentation style and knowledge of his material, that I purchased the class. Before I could download, I wrote Mr. Hagen with questions about his classes on "Using the Nikon Autofocus System" and the "Nikon Wireless Flash for Creative Photography" because I also saw small snippets of both. Based on Mikes two replies, I am going to purchase both in the next few minutes.
Mike Hagen has become one of favorite instructors. His instruction and question answers are clear and concise and he has a real world approach. He has a friendly and approachable personality. Best of all during this course he works by himself which makes you feel you too can accomplish the shoot on your own. Mike demonstrates a practical approach with affordable equipment as he is aware many photographers starting off do not have a huge budget. In his other course on using your first flash he also had several gear set suggestions based on budget which was so thoughtful and helpful. I hope Mike does some more advanced courses as well and I will keep watch for his name on the course schedule. A definite thumbs up for photographers starting off using flash.
Mike makes this subject so easy understand and simple to apply. Just as only good teachers are able to present sometimes complex information. My only recommendation would be to get out of the Nikon/Canon box (valid for many other teachers as well). At some points Mike stated only "some brands" had high speed sync while in fact this feature is present on many other camera brands. I use the Samsung NX1 with a sync at 1/250 and HHS on SEF-580A speedlights. I loved the simplicity of this class and the fact a single photographer can get the job done without so many devices. Many thanks Mike! and many thanks CreativeLive!
i am an absolut beginner with flash photography and up to now, it was difficult for me to find the right settings. Therefore i did'nt work a lot with flash, because the results were all disappointing. This course brought me to a next level and know it make fun to try out and use flash in my outdoor photography. Even as my main part is landscape i used flash to separate things from the background and it worked great. Thanks Mike for your understanding explanations - know i like my flash. Many greetings from Austria Cornelia
Mike is one those instructors you enjoy learning from. He is knowledgable, patient positive energy and helpful in class and during breaks. It doesn't hurt that he is a Nikon guy either. I created a list of questions before training started, he provided answers to all my questions. Over all I would highly recommend this class for the simple reason he supports his classroom discussions with real world situations. Mike and the Creative Live family made the entire day enjoyable.
Super easy to follow his instruction. I think it's the best instruction on how to use flash that I've heard in a while.
Great Class taught by a knowledgeable and articulate instructor! This class should enable anyone with even a basic understanding of photography to be shooting creative outdoor flash images with a minimum of equipment....most likely using equipment they already have but haven't used outdoors. Mike was able to cover everything from the gear required to the best way to use it in real life situations for a variety of styles and finished looks. If you have been intimidated to use flash in conjunction with available light, this class will spell it out in simple yet technical terms and get you working the flash correctly first time out.
