Skin 101: Lighting, Retouching and Understanding Skin with Lindsay Adler

Lindsay is probably the only photographer I know that has the skills to teach valuable knowledge with no waste at all. Every single word is worth it! One thing I would recommend is in make up don´t do lips and eyes cause it looks like a drag queen. The rule is, eyes make up and lips nude or viceversa. But not both.

Great class!! My big problem is, all my shoots are on the beach. Their skin is always orange. I always struggle with, do I keep it warm to match the balance of the background? Or fix their skin and have it stand out? Then we consider how many would need to be retouched if I choose the later. Do you recommend Portraiture? Picking the right tone then batch it?

Lindsay is probably my favourite instructor (and that is saying a lot, as there are many incredible instructors). She is so clear in her teaching and she also seems like such a nice and humble person despite her incredible success. This course is one of the best courses I have ever seen. Honestly, I am only halfway through this course and I already have learned SO SO much. I've even done a few shoots since starting this course (I've been watching it over the course of a couple weeks) and those shoots were two of my best shoots I've ever done so far, in terms of photographing skin and skin tone. I highly recommend this class for anyone who wants to get really detailed about how to flatter skin. I've been shooting for years (I'm not a beginner by any means) and this class has already upped my game. If you shoot portraits at all, whether in natural light or in the studio, lifestyle or headshots, wedding or families... this class is great.

It is a great course. Lindsay Adler is a very good and pleasant teacher. In the course, she covers all the process from the very begining in the shooting to end in retouching. In this last aspect, the course has been specially valuable for me, because she explains every tool and every process step by step, very carefully and clearly. As she is a photographer, she focus on what is realy needed and use the language that a photographer is accoustomed to use. I fully recommend this course to professionals or amateurs that want to dominate the problems that skins present in doing portraits, weddings, etc.

This is my all time favorite course. It's filled with really valuable insightful information. Understanding how light modifier choice and position affects my clients' skin texture is priceless. This course made me a much better photographer, retoucher, and overall decision maker.

Great course. Lindsay Adler is one of the best instructors for any creative live classes that I have seen. Simple and easy to understand, clear workflow, very friendly and non condescending like some other instructors. Could you put a link (maybe I just didn't see it) to where to download the actions used in this tutorial?

Great course. This goes far beyond normal lighting techniques. How to get it right in camera for all kind of different skins and to fix it easily in post processing if you accidently fail doing it in camera. Lindsay explains all in an easy way to understand the why and how.

This class has a lot of information and Lindsey as always does an exceptional job at explaining how to deal with different situations.

Lindsay is an INCREDIBLE photographer and teacher, and also seems like a wonderful person! This class is great for beginners and more advanced photographers, as well. She goes into tons of detail on all the technical stuff like lighting and editing, and it is fascinating to see her interact with and shoot her models, work with her equipment, and photoshop like a pro. Huge amounts of information for what you pay for. If you are looking to improve your skills in photographing and retouching people, purchase this class!!

Absolutely incredible course! I am so happy I purchased it. Lindsey is a well of knowledge, but is also a very methodical teacher which makes it easy to follow along and make sense out of all the information. Great class! Very informative. I really like the way that Lindsay presents the information. Its all very easy to follow and understand. Love all of the bonus materials. There is one thing that I'm a bit disappointed with, Lindsay mentions that she will supply actions with course, however there were none provided. Would have been nice to get those. Overall an excellent course.

I like the CreativeLive classes very much even though I do not have a studio or studio strobes, etc. I do use two off camera flashes and natural light. I learned so much . Thank You Lindsay!
