ABOUT LINDSAY’S CLASS:

Intimidated by studio lights? In Studio Lighting 101, fashion photographer Lindsay Adler deciphers the complexities of studio light, breaking it down into simple concepts for beginners. In this class, you'll learn everything from basic lighting terminology to creating multiple light set-ups. Start with the basics like how to adjust your digital camera settings for studio strobes and layer in the details you'll need to light your first photo studio portrait.

Photographers on a budget will learn how to light a portrait using a single light, modifier, and photography light stand. Then, learn to work with two and three light kits to create drama, background separation, and more. You'll see dozens of studio lighting set-ups, from start-to-finish, behind the scenes in this live recorded class. Develop the skills to troubleshoot several common photography studio lighting problems, like lighting large groups and correcting reflections on glasses.

By the end of this class, you'll know how to buy your first studio lighting kit and how to shoot that first in-studio portrait. This class is ideal both for beginning photographers that don't understand much beyond the exposure triangle and experienced natural light photographers ready to try a studio setting.

WHO THIS CLASS IS FOR:

  • Beginners with a grasp of the exposure triangle
  • Intermediate and advanced natural light photographers new to studio lighting

Excellent presentation! A lot of very useful information!!

One major drawback for me, too many interruptions from the lady to the far side, this slowed down the process and created a stop go feel to the process. It felt as if she was competing with Lindsay for attention.

I loved this course! Lindsay spent so much time with explaining each set-up in-depth that anyone picking up a camera could understand how to accomplish their lighting goals. This course covered so many unique (but, most likely to come across scenarios) and how one would approach the challenge and how to successfully accomplish with incredible results, not average-sub-standard or basic results, but above entry-level standards, high-level, money-generating lighting expertise! ZERO laziness in her explanations to the point where she is constantly refining her course in the middle of the 3 days. Her passion gleams throughout each days lessons with so much energy. You know she really wants her students both in-person and through the screen to be successful in whatever type of lighting they choose to dabble in. I am so happy, I have bookmarked, and i'm so happy and fortunate to have this course to reference for hopefully –everrrr. Thanks!

This has to be the most useful class I've seen so far on Creative Live. Its 14 hours of Jam packed photography knowledge and setups and I couldn't have spent the time any better. Lindsey is a world class teacher, i don't think she even said em once during the course. I highly recommend this for a beginner or an advanced Photographer. Thank you Lindsey , i'll be definitely checking out your other courses soon.

I consider this class to be a "must view" if you are serious about any type of studio photography work. It truly is 101 and Lindsay is a true sensei. Aside from being quite simply a photographic genius, she is also a brilliant educator. I learned so much from this course! At a certain point, you realize that she is sharing her knowledge out of a true desire to help people and to elevate the art form. I hope my work can live up to the standard she sets as an instructor! Highly recommended.

Lindsay is a rock star instructor. She’s clear, focused and likeable. She’s a great working photographer as well which lends so much credibility to her teaching. I can’t wait to see what she continues to come up with.

I've watched so many videos, taken classes in lighting, but this was the most helpful, instructive and practical course I've taken. GREAT stuff. It gave me confidence to slowly work out each one we've been shown and get some good shots.

  • Gilbert A. Sep 2, 2020

I love this class! But there is SO much information in it, that I am having to watch it more than once! (I'm on my third time already!) One thing I would love to know though is, having bought my first 'proper' studio light, how to get my camera to allow it's trigger to work? As it's a Canon camera, it seems to want nothing to do with it! Yet Lindsay's lights work just fine! But enough of that, I can (and do) recommend this class to anyone who will listen!

  • Michele C. Aug 3, 2020

Ms. Adler is an absolutely amazing instructor! This class was EXACTLY what I needed to get over my lighting phobia. Everything is explained so concisely. I would recommend this class for sure!

  • Jeanie B. Apr 13, 2020

This is one of the most comprehensive classes that I have taken so far! Lindsay is very thorough and knowledgable. I would highly recommend this class!

  • Virgil K. Mar 12, 2020

Just finished this class and even though I had been shooting studio for 1 year now I must say that this brought to me a deeper understanding of the fundamentals of studio lighting, understanding how light behaves, the different types of diffusers and the quality of light etc.. Lindsay is an extraordinary photographer and an amazing teacher. HIGHLY recommended!

  • Tristan W. Nov 20, 2019

An incredible amount of knowledge shared by Lindsay. I love how humble and passionate she is about lighting and teaching. Clearly spoken in an easy to understand way and an immense amount of demonstrations!

  • Jessica C. Jul 11, 2019

Lindsay is engaging throughout the entire lesson. I found myself taking notes and going off to practice often. I definitely learned a lot and I'm excited to watch more of her classes. She's really a great instructor and I love her teaching style.

  • LEO D. May 2, 2019

I really enjoyed Lindsay Adler's class. She is a talented teacher, and what's more: she is a true pro, experienced, authentic and dedicated. Her enthusiasm is infectious. Even if you have some track record in photography, this class will still have revelations for you. I would like to suggest though that other participants in the class are properly introduced. There is John, modest but clearly a wise man. There is the woman who moderates the questions. She is charming and professional. I would like them to be persons with a name. They deserve that. Lindsay, I am a fan. Thanks a lot for this terrific class. Although I watched your class on my computer, it's as if I was actually there all the time and was part of the group.

This class was amazing! If you are even thinking of buying it....DO IT. LIndsay is one of the most effective instructors i have encountered. She breaks down complex topics in clear, understandable, actionable and memorable ways. The lighting setups are so informative they are worthy of being laminated.

  • Eric C. Jan 21, 2018

Excellent class. I have a home studio and get great results largely by trial and error. Having gone over this class I am organized and can anticipate what I need to do. Also introduced to techniques of which I was unaware - use of grid for black background a good example. Well explained lucid Excellent and a mustl Eric C LRPS

  • Ronny W. Jul 7, 2017

Great course, lifted me up a level certainly but found the white background lighting test fell a little shot as usually the white background would continue underneath the model and then lighting becomes a bigger challenge (lighting the floor in addition to the background and model) opposed to just lighting the background itself...

  • Phani M. Feb 25, 2017

This class sounds amazing! Before I purchase, I just have one question. Does it cover how to use color correcting gels on strobe lights? Thank you.

  • Beatrice P. Dec 26, 2016

Hi, I am Beatrice from Italy. I think this class is superb. I finally understood what are the guide lines to follow, I tried for years but never found such a good explanation. Lindsay is a wonderful teacher, she explains in a simple way, she shares a lot of knowledge and she shows in practice what are the results of every single choice. Thank you so much, it was really amazing and super interesting!!!!
