Find and capture intimate and interesting moments in any city
The beauty of street photography is that it allows the photographer to capture humanity in its various forms. It is art that tells the story of life, humanity, and cultures. With so many of us now living in urban environments, being able to create an image that resonates and tells the story of urban life is more valuable than ever. But it can be intimidating to start when you don’t know what gear to use, how to look for the important moments or how to connect with the subject in your story. Steve Sweatpants, a well-known street photographer in New York City, will teach you the top 5 tips to help you overcome your fears so you can get out of your comfort zone and shoot the stories you see in the world.
You will learn:
Street photography is a unique genre of photography that requires persistence but is ultimately very rewarding. Steve will show you how to overcome your fear of photographing on the street so that you can create images that capture the people and history of any location.
Very natural and honest. done in a documentary frame set but real action and raw information ... very cool and I found it informative and interesting. Cool dude for sure.
I recommend this class for those who like photographing on the street from a distance. He uses a 85mm most of the time and take nice shots from the city, including people, but far from them. Not my way to photograph, as I use a 28mm.
Absolutely terrific class! Steve is so relatable as a human being, and his approach to street photography reflects that. I took another street photography course that was good in many respects but focused a lot on the big stories a million miles away. Steve's philosophy and approach to small things happening in my own backyard are both inspiring and helpful. Bravo!
Loved hearing Steve think out loud about how he was approaching various shots, what attracted him to a scene, and ideas about framing and layering. It's like being able to get inside his head for a bit and sparked so many ideas for me.
Very much appreciate your work and your emphasis on connection and capturing the emotional complexity of our lives. Thank you
The real-life presentation style is very effective, and hearing Steve's thoughts and perspectives as he goes about a shoot like this is inspirational and encouraging.
I really love this guy!
Loved to watch his process of creativity! I follow him on Instagram and his photography is amazing so I found this course very beneficial. Loved it, hope he makes some more!
Steve is an engaging and 'real' sincere individual. I enjoyed his tips and having them highlighted on the screen was effective. Might be nice to detail them out and offer it up as a download. Some of the best take-aways for myself was the angles and reflections in the puddles. Hadn't thought of that before and see some great potential. Did n't really talk about lighting and time of day and his thoughts on what each situation offers. Overall enjoyed the course
Always great to hear the train of thought of other creatives and having the crew do a walk along with Steve was a solid insight. Street photography is the main area I focus on within the photography world and it's a wonderful thing to get a look into what Steve's experience has to offer.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class. What I most enjoyed was the idea is street photography and photography in general was presented in a way that feels attainable. And the emphasis on the every day moments that are beautiful instead of always thinking you need to wait for "perfect". Would be interesting to see his approach to editing.
Lots of great insights on how to find and capture great moments throughout the day. Enjoyed that the class was filmed in such a way that I felt like I was right next to Steve as he was photographing.
What I enjoyed the most about this class was getting a behind the scenes look at what he's doing when photographing the streets. Instead of being indoors, showing all his photos on a projector and talking about them...you feel like you are walking along with him while he talks about his artistic process. This would be a really good intro course for beginners or for those trying to venture into photographing less controlled environments. Really nice approach!
Steve is really great on camera. Very charismatic and easy to follow. He seems like a real person, a person that the viewer could vs. someone who is so accomplished they are almost intimidating. I can't honestly say I learned a lot from this course as most of the information is pretty basic however I did really enjoy watching it.
Very introspective view into how this awesome artist crafts his work. Also, a great class for those interested or developing an interest in human/ street photography. #bedstuy
I think this is a great beginner's course for people looking to get into street photography, and find inspiration for the genre. I am mostly a landscape and outdoor photographer, but have been looking to expand my repertoire into street, and possibly portrait. Steve's final photos were excellent photos. He has a casual, laidback method of instruction, which I appreciate.
One hour class packed with useful insights while he was walking and photographing the streets of Seattle. CreativeLive; I loved this style of class. It was fast paced and focused on how this photographer applies his skills to a variety of Seattle settings.
Thanks for the tips!
Feel the people, feel the scene, feel the vibe of your location; now, frame the image you feel in your camera and take the shot. Also, be happy, have fun. Steve takes a bit over an hour to say this and provides a lot of video of him trying to do it. It's an interesting watch, some good advice and a few tips on how to push through when things are tough.
Very informative and interesting. Inspires me to go shooting!!
