This class was really good for beginners. I've been taking pictures for a while but this made so many things very clear. I will definitely be taking more of her classes.

This is an excellent presentation for beginning photographers. She didn't talk over my head, was thorough in her explanations, and made everything very understandable. On top of that Khara's personality and humor really make listening to her a pleasure as well as an education. I look forward to more of her classes.

This was a great overview of the DSLR camera and its features, the "exposure triangle," and what to look for in lenses. I loved Khara's analogies and visual aids -- they greatly helped to simplify all the information in a way that makes total sense. I already feel more confident in my ability to take better pictures!

I thought this was a great course. I am a beginner and I learned so much. I would watch the course with my camera and was amazed at how much I learned. Khara’s bubble upbeat personality made what could be very technical information fun.

  • David R. Feb 13, 2018

Chatty, and definitely aimed at the beginner. There is no written outline nor written materials. So, not the best value. YMMV.

  • S D. Dec 26, 2017

Very helpful. I like the way she breaks down concepts into easily understandable chunks.

I’ve taken a number of excellent courses from Creative Live, and this very thoughtfully organized, well taught class took me from “I love photography but I’ll never get how to do it” to “wow I get it!” It created a huge shift (finally!) for me. There is an intelligent simplicity that really does make for lightbulb moments. I’m extremely grateful for this class. Now I can go back and watch the others courses again and they will make much more sense and I can apply what I learned here.

I wish I can get my money back on this class. I don't have time to listen to the constant giggling.

I've had my Canon Rebel XTi for a number of years. I have taken some great photos along with some pretty bad failures. I've read instructional books but decided to give this class a try. I always struggled with fully understanding the shutter speed/aperature/ISO and the connection between them. After hearing her explanation and "cheats" for understanding them- I had a lightbulb moment! I really have learned quite a bit from this video. She even mentions a lighting tip when using the iPhone camera- awesome! never knew about that. Im would absolutely recommend this to a beginner- adv. beginner. Great job Khara!

Photography as an art is completely new to me and Khara's course was an excellent introduction. I love her examples and the way she explains all of the topics. I highly recommend this course for those that are just starting out.

Khara is awesome! She really breaks down how the camera works, photography terminology, and technique. She does it all with a fun and entertaining personality and really makes it easy to understand what you are learning! I love this course!!! So worth it!

  • Tanya E. Oct 26, 2016

I am so grateful that I bought this course! It was exactly what I was looking for, and more. Khara does a great job of breaking down the basics of photography into their most simple components. Absolutely recommend it!

  • D. Aug 21, 2016

Loved this course and have recommended it to a friend who is looking to purchase his first DSLR. This course is perfect for beginners or someone who is self taught and who has picked a few bits up along the way; Khara then puts all these little bits of information together. I feel like the pieces have come together for me and I have taken my best/favourite photographs after watching these videos. Thank you CL and Thank you Khara x

  • Beverly S. Jul 18, 2016

  • Deb S. Jul 17, 2016

Excellent! She knows so much and explains it so clearly!

  • Shirley R. Jul 16, 2016

This is definitely a great beginners course and even for those on their way tonintermediate if you want to refresh your knowledge of camera settings and good exposure. Her vocabulary is very simple so it is easy to understand.

I am an amateur hobbyist and was looking forward to this class. Khara has a light, slightly goofy way she dispenses information. I personally enjoy her method, although I can understand that some people might not like it. She is a practical working photographer that has a great feel for making things simple, and I think she succeeds. As this is a beginner course, her examples of using program modes really open up a lot of opportunities with the simplest of point and shoot cameras. I think that not automatically saying everything should be shot manual in raw is refreshing, even though I usually shoot raw myself. My only misgiving is with her technical knowledge of image formats and other computer-related issues. A couple examples. She may have the ability to get her shot as is and feel comfortable using JPEG, but people need to understand that JPEG is a lossy format, and as you edit and save, you can easily introduce artifacts into images. Her explanation of cropped sensors was also lacking. It took me a while to understand what she was trying to say, without using examples of models (Full frame, APS, Micro 4/3 mirrorless, etc.) Those are a couple things that jumped out at me. I can understand the frustration of the negative review complaining of her making things up, but truthfully her examples of how she created the images she shows are worth the price on its own. So all in all, I'd have to recommend this course with slight reservations.
