CC 2019 Create Motion Graphic Templates
in this lesson, I'm going to show you how to create an essential graphics template that you can use in adobe premiere Pro right within after effects. So here I've created a very very simple, Lower third graphic. But imagine that you could do pretty much anything you wanted with motion graphics, you could have more images or shapes or animations in the background, you could have more text animations, pretty much anything goes and can be built into a template. I have four layers here. One is one for each of the text layers and one for each bar that's behind to create an essential graphics template. Go up to window, click essential graphics. This brings up a new window here is how you create it. So under Master select the composition that you want to create a template from. So here I have one called for this Comp is called lower 3rd template. Next. What were the basic processes? We're going to begin adding individual elements that you want to be able to edit within premiere Pro. If we jus...
t save this as a template right now, you could still use it in premiere Pro but it would simply just import this graphic as is you couldn't edit the text um Within premiere Pro but I I imagine that you want to create templates so that you can replace the text and things like that. Maybe even change the color of the background bars. So to do that we need to add properties to this window. Now you could go in here to your composition and find the properties themselves or you can click this solo property supported properties which is as it says the supported properties that you can add to a template project or template file so you can see that under the text for Phil Brenner you can see that you have the source text which is the actual text itself. So just drag that up to our window, you'll see when it highlights blue, You can choose that don't pay attention or don't worry about this yet. You can also do things like let's go down to our rectangle fill color, drag that up, let's go down to our motion graphics artists or our sub header text and we'll add that. We'll also add our rectangle color fill color down here and that's pretty much all I would want the template to be able to do. But also let's maybe add the position of this rectangle. So we have our rectangle path position here so you can see if I actually adjust this here in the window, you can see that it can move in or out and you might imagine that I want to do this because if this text is longer or shorter, I might want to make this the position of this graphic in or out a little bit and I should probably do that for the top one as well. So let's go up to rectangle path positions. Yeah, I'm adding these, I kind of want to move these around to the prop and layer them in order. So I'm going to put this position underneath this bar. So now we can actually rename some of these things. So maybe I call this one name text here. We rename this to subtitle text and then maybe the color, subtitle, bar, color, name, bar, color. The other thing you see here under the text is we have properties. So if we want to enable certain properties that can be edited by within premiere Pro, you can choose to have them available to change the text, the font, the font size or faux styles such as bolding italics, sighs. Maybe you don't want them to be able to change the font because you want them to use the brand font that you always use but you just want them to be able to use adjust the font size in case uh in case it's too big or too small or that kind of thing. Let's just enable all of these for this layer though. So you can see what it looks like in premiere pro and you can see down here what happens when it opens up. And this is an update in the CC 2020 version of after effects. Actually now there are drop down menus that are available in the templates before in the essential graphics panel. It was just sliders. So this is actually really nice that you can you have these drop down menus available. So that's pretty much it what we want to do at the top is give this template a name. So we're going to call this lower third template one, for example. And then when you're happy with everything, you click export motion graphics template, We're going to save the project 1st. It's going to save the template so you choose where you want to save it. Typically if you're just working on your own computer, you might want to just save it in the templates folder. You might also want to save it to your drive or your computer in a different place. So that if you are sharing this with an editor or someone else that works on your team or needs this file, you can share that as well. And of course you can find the files themselves in the templates folder on your computer, but it might just be easy to save this to your desktop for now, for example, click save. You can also add keywords though if you want so that it if you're typing in something for example, lower third video school online, these kinds of things so that it will actually have those key words attached to this file. So when you are searching for a particular file in premiere Pro for example, it will show up All right now, let's head over to premiere Pro and show you how this actually works. Alright, I'm here in premiere Pro. And if you open up a sequence and you open up your essential graphics panel. If you don't have that open. Just Windows Windows Essential graphics. If you save that template to your local templates folder, it should appear here. If you saved it somewhere else on your computer or say you are sending it to someone or you've downloaded it from someone else. Click this, install motion graphics template button in the bottom right, find your file which should be a dot McGirt file. M O G R T and click open. It might take a second and then it appears here. Lower 3rd. Look how when I search for a video school online, it pops up. So if you have specific keywords or specific set of graphics that you want to be easily accessible adding keywords is definitely a good idea. Now if I drop this into our timeline we will change sequence settings to match this for this example. It's going to load up your template now if you if I play through this, you can see that has the graphic that we created in adobe after effects and here's where the magic happens though. If we click on this file and we go to the edit tab. Now you can see all of the different properties that we can adjust. So I can adjust this to say matt Damon actor and now this is what it looks like. But of course we've added these other properties so that we can adjust where these bars go. For example, we can move our bar out so the spacing is a little bit better. There is one property that we did not add that we should probably add and that's the position of our text because right now I can't move this text left or right and that would probably be good. But see in the matt Damon text or the name text. We have these properties for different fonts so we can change our fonts if we want. It's orange juice, we have our size so we can change the size. We could have our different foe styles and we don't have those for our subtitle text. We can change the color of our background bar for example, just like so amazing powerful stuff like I said though and this happens when I'm creating my own templates. I realized I needed to add that position the property of the text itself. So it might take a couple of times for you to figure out exactly what you might need. And it's always good to test out your graphics in premiere Pro before you send it to someone or before you finalize it because there might be properties that you missed. So that's how you create a motion graphic template in after effects that you can use in premiere pro. I hope this helps you out and we'll see you in another lesson
