Menu Functions: Playback

There are two pages within the playback which deal with images in the playback mode. We can delete our images, which is a little bit faster here than using the garbage can button on the back of the camera, if you have lots of images to get rid of. For the most part, the garbage can button on the back of the camera works just fine. All right, what's next? Different view modes, and this is for how you're going to be looking at your images. One of the things that I'm not particularly fond of in the Sony cameras is that it is a little bit more complicated of file structure that it creates on the memory cards. One of the things to take note of if you are in an assistant to a famous photographer is that still photos get put in one folder, and movies get put in another folder, and so if you download all the images in the folder with all the pictures, you may not have gotten the movies. In fact, you haven't gotten the movies. Be realized that those are in two separate places. You can view diff...

erent folders, looking at still images, or different file types of the different movie images. That's why we have different options here. I don't know why Sony does it that way, but that's how we kind of watch out for things. If you zoom back from an image, you can either see a group of images with the thumbnail, either 12 or 30 images, whatever your preference is. Display rotation, we have a number of options here, manual, which is good for TV playback, so if you're gonna show images on a TV, you want your images rotated so they're always along the horizontal axis, but I prefer having the image as large on screen as possible, and so if you just turn this off, you get the maximum image size, because it's very easy to rotate the camera so that you can see the large image on it. You can hook the camera up to a TV and do a slide show. This allows you to go in and set the parameters of it. If you need to manually rotate one of the images, because it was taken off on the side or in an unusual angle, you can rotate the image so it works well on a TV screen. Second page, playback. You can enlarge an image if you want to. This is gonna allow images, excuse me, what is it? Let me go back for a moment. Okay, so this is just gonna enlarge an image in playback, so you can check for focusing on it, that's all. Next up is a 4K still image playback. This is so that you can see a still image on a 4K TV. No, this camera does not shoot 4K video, but you can look at images in a 4K format on a 4K TV, but those are only still images. You can put a little protection on your images, so that they don't accidentally get deleted. Be aware that you can still format a memory card. and that'll get rid of the images. So, it's a very light level of protection. You can hook your camera up to a printer, and print images from it, and it's something we're not gonna get into, but you can specify the exact type of printing you job that you want in this area.

I learned more during this class than I did in 4 months of owning the camera ! Finally able to use the focus options properly, including my favorite; Back Button Focus. John is a fantastic teacher, I enjoy all of his classes and his excellent teaching style. Watched all 3 hours of this class in one evening. From now on I will always purchase his classes when I get a new camera. 2 thumbs up !
