Fundamentals of Photography
John Greengo
a complete guide to CanonĀ® lenses.
Brilliant class!
This class was invaluable to me. As an amateur/student of photography, the one thing that's always challenged me is the technology of my camera and how all the settings work together. Learning the fundamentals of lenses is what has been missing in my self-education. I am so much better informed now! The problem? John gives us SO MUCH valuable information that I will need to watch specific lessons again in order to absorb it all this amazing information.
Brilliant! I discovered John when I got my 7Dmk2, it was a step up from 700D, and I had no idea! then came a preloved 5Dmk2, which led me to the 5Dmkiv. But I had no idea about lenses. And I found out really no idea! I got so much out of the workshop, I skipped the primes lens parts, and then rewatched the parts I really need. Not only did it help me decide which lenses to switch out, but which lenses to buy! And filters, etc. Also good that alternate lenses are discussed. I love my sigma arts!! I now fully understand what those little gauges are for, and which lenses i should use for what shooting circumstance. I highly recommend this, you may not need all 58 parts of it, but i really feel like i got a very comprehensive brain workout! just a really well done workshop, thanks John
This was a very, very good class. Very informative and helpful! Thank you so much!
This class is fantastic. I shoot on APS-C camera and when searching for information on lenses online you most often run into forums or blog posts that are downright derogatory towards the crop frame cameras. You ask a question about the quality or features of a 100mm lens and they give you a long tirade on how you crop sensor camera it isn't really a 100mm lens like somehow the lens morphs into something else. John does a fantastic job of explaining lenses and explaining the differences of using the lenses on full frame or crop frame sensors in an informative and respectful manner. I actually regret not being able to take the class in person because after viewing the class I wish I had an opportunity to go up to him in person and thank him for being respectful and helpful to crop frame camera users. One word of caution after watching this class you will undoubtedly start going I want this lens and this lens and that lens and oooh look at that lens and then wait.... I really can't afford all that but I want them ALL.
This course is so detailed it's unbelievable, the effort that John put into the course is outstanding. Invest in this course you will save money, and make money by understanding the fundamental of how lenses work.
Incredibly helpful!! Thank you so much!!!
I have not even completed this course yet and I have learned so much! Rarely have I encountered an instructor as thorough and informative ā and easy to follow ā as John Greengo. Money well spent and very highly recommended. Thankyou, John.
Filled with information, I learned a ton. I skipped a few lessons - on tilt shift, for example, since I don't plan on buying a tilt shift lens - but I absolutely wish I had watched this a long time ago. I like how practical John is with his recommendations, and backed them up with all of the details of each characteristic so that I understand why certain lenses cost more. Very helpful!
Wow this is such an eye opener.
John has once agani outdone himself in being SO CLEAR. Ive learned SO MUCH from him, hes so easy to understand and extrememly precise. This class would take a whole college semester. My ONLY complaint about this class is the guy who filmed it. He was focused on John and NOT the board and what hes talking about. Its almost impossible to talke notes without stopping the tape and rewinding to get it b.c he will not keep the camera on the board. Its a little frustrating, John throws out a whole lot of information and I cant write that fast for the tiny blip he focuses on what John is talking about. I want to watch the board of examples he is showing while he's talking about it,, I do NOT want to watch him talking. We need better cameramen shooting these technical classes that can focus on examples on the board or lots of writing. We need to see it again AFTER he talks about it sometimes to get what hes saying, not him saying it. I hope that was clear. You dont have to print this review, but you should know.
Excellent research and knowledge. Great information, I learned a lot. Thank you John.
Wow! I had always been curious about this class, but was afraid it would be a bit pedantic. Finally went for it because I was certain I wasn't getting as much out of some of my lenses as I could and what a pleasant surprise! Not only did I learn exactly what I wanted to learn about my specialty lenses, but who knew - John Greengo is a gifted and entertainingly Seussical poet as well. My recommendation would be to buy this class as a reference, and refer to it as needed. The wealth of information and knowledge John shares here is well worth the investment.
Excellent companion to the "Introduction to Digital Photography" class, for those using Canon cameras. Highly recommended.
Really great class, i have learned a lot. Thanks to John Greengo
John is an awesome teacher and this course covers all the lenses (both Canon and third party) you may need. I highly recommend it!
Great class from a great photographer/teacher. Anyone needing to know about Canon lenses, this is the class !
I am overwhelmed with how much I have learned!!! Yet at the same time, I still feel confused about the right lens for my focused subjects. I have a bad habit of buying it all, my hubby will tell you so, therefore it took every bit of will power not to go out and buy a lens after each lesson! Just because each lesson taught me so much, I felt I knew enough to go and just buy one lens (well maybe two). But I promised my husband I would wait, and I used the spreadsheet supplied in the class materials as my marking sheet of which lens would be my first buy and so one. Needless to say by mid way I did buy two used lens, and by the end of the class I did purchase 4 used lens. I am very happy with those 4, and I have learned a few key items that I do need on any of my future purchase. The main one being IS and having a fast aperture. I have been practicing with the 4 new lens on my grandchildren playing, and family posing, and I love seeing the difference on how the pictures turn out. It's my sheepies (Old English Sheepdogs) and their babies I am at a lost still. Hoping the photo class of your pets will help me. Since I am very very new at this. I can not express enough how awesome this class has been! Even though it was very long, and that could have been because I would play a section twice to make sure I got it all in, it was worth every hour!! Thank you, and my husband say's thank you for saving his wallet ;-)
John's classes are so organized with terrific summary slides. He really covers all aspects of the course subject. The "finale" was terrific!
I cannot say enough about this and all Creative Live classes. John's presentation is comprehensive yet understandable. I am a true amateur to photography - dabbled but not until my retirement have I had the time to devote. Before this class I thought I needed another lens - but John has illustrated so clearly that I can obtain the same result with a lens I already own. Thank You John for putting this (and your other) class together.
Wonderful class! Never had this clarity on the lens system. I feel much more confident as a photographer knowing this information. Wish I was taught this in my college photo years. Never too late...thank you John Greengo.
I just finished this class and learned so much. I am just breaking away from using my DSLR as a point and shoot. I have a couple of zoom telephoto lenses for family trips but now as I move into the beginner going into intermediate realm, this lens class helped me understand so much more about each type of lens and how it should be used. I wish I had had this with my first SLR a long time ago. Thank you so much.
Excellent class and excellent teacher! I wasn't sure if I needed to know this much about lenses, but after watching this course I realized that this information will not only improve my images, but also my ability to make lens decisions when photographing in high stress situations. So glad I purchased it!
I would like to say Thank You Very Much to John Greengo for this AMAZING presentation. I honestly enjoyed every minute of this course. This is a 5 star class. Highly recommended. Patrick Langevin
