Photographers constantly search to capture that decisive moment. Unfortunately, that moment seldom happens under ideal photographic conditions. In this class you'll learn how to quickly overcome all of the most common crappy lighting scenarios. With the aid of these simple techniques and minimal equipment, you'll be empowered to walk into any setting and emerge with beautiful imagery.
The perfect class for any level of photographer wanting to better understand working in different lighting conditions. Lindsay gives the natural light approach and Erik brings the flash approach. It's great to see so many different ways to conquer the same problems! I highly recommend this class.
Great class - I just finished this in 2020 and it's still relevant. A few gear suggestions may be a bit outdated but otherwise great information.
I have purchased fast glass and upgraded to a full-frame camera and could shoot decent pics but lighting issues were such a downer. Thank you for an amazing class that really spoke specifically to my barriers to great photos in a very easy to understand class. I would highly recommend this class!
Technology may have advanced, yet this class is as relevant as when it showed for the first time. I loved how Lindsay and Erik approached the same crappy situation with different solutions. I am a fan of Lindsay for her clear presentation skills!
Loved it! This was my first Creative Live class-- I learned so much that I signed up for several more, including 2 of Lindsay's other classes. The presenters were both very knowledgeable and I appreciated seeing different approaches and techniques. This course covered information that isn't addressed in a lot of other photography classes/books. I also like the video format-- it really helps to see the examples and explanations "in action." Highly recommend!
Excellent course! The banter between these two is great. You will get a great intro to natural and studio lighting in a friendly and comprehensive environment. Highly recommend.
Greetings from Austria / Tyrol / Innsbruck. I love this class - and all of creativlive. I bought the creatorpass and it`s the best I could do. Sorry if there are some mistakes in my english.
so happy I bought it! highly recommend :)
Great classes! Thanks, so useful! But there's is one mistake in this video and that Is that the spot metering is not linked to the focus point on the Canon 5D Mark III (or the Mark IV I have). I've checked the manual and tried it out at home. These two are not connected. The only metering mode that takes the focus point in account is Evaluative.
Lindsay Adler has single handedly changed how I approach my photography. After 15 years, I finally understand concepts to a much better degree. She explains complex ideas and techniques in a very easy to understand way. I cannot recommend her classes enough!!!
Lindsay knows it all without being a know-it-all! She shares information generously and with humility. She is a working pro that has obviously had a wide breadth of photographic experience, and she communicates it well and helps you learn from challenges she's faced (and sometimes struggled with). This class really helped build my confidence that I can think my way out of crappy light conditions.
The title of the this module was not interesting to me initially. But after I watched the whole thing, I am hugely surprised by the significant importance of getting good light, knowing the bad light, and how to modify it in all kind of situation so we can get much better results when doing portraits. This module imho ends up as one of the most important videos about photography from Creative Live. Thanks a lot to CL, and especially Lindsay and Erik for creating a very enlightening and fun content such as this.
Great course with practical tips for shooting in many common situations, in different stylistic ways, and without a lot of expensive accessories.
Well done. Enjoyed the review.
I love to catch ANYTHING Lindsay does, she is such a great teacher. I learn something every time I see her. Could be as simple as the way you stand, or the way to approach a situation. Seeing her work w. other photographers has also been educational, to see how Eric goes about it in a different approach is also very pleasing to see. This was a very valuable class, and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to chase the light, novice, or a pro, you will pick up a tidbit somewhere along the line in this class.. Also, watching how they both direct the subject to move to a position that is pleasing, and they relax to catch the perfect shot. Helping them feel comfortable in front of the camera is crutial. Different styles helps us to find our own. Knowing what it is, and what you want and how to find it even under pressure. Great Class!
It is good ... a lot of the lighting is more for One subject , not families of 4-6 . . A lot of unneeded talking.
Great learning opportunity, but at least a couple of things have been mis-communicated. When shooting RAW you don't need to worry about the colour space setting (sRGB\Adobe 1998) as this is only applied when converted to a different file format. Lindsay mentioned that the 600ex cannot managed different ETTL settings for different groups which is incorrect.
Some of the videos were a free preview. I watched those and were so intrigued because I wanted a class all about light. I wish the intro video would have been free though too because it would have made the decision to buy even easier. I'm not a fashion photographer or some other commercial one for that matter and I was a little worried that it would be geared too much towards those styles. But actually the intro alone pleasantly surprised me because while the instructors have their styles, they teach the class from the perspective that would benefit any photographer across the board. They also purposely used very basic/cheap equipment in the worst scenarios, so I feel that it was a very honest look at combatting challenging light. If you want more solutions than just "find shade" or "just shoot at golden hour" then this class is for you! Definitely worth the money for anyone frustrated with light.
I thought I understood about light before I took this course. How wrong could I be? I have re-watched this course over and over and I just love it. Quality of light, direction of light - so many crappy light situations. Learning how to actually set a white balance instead of purely relying on the camera presets and learning colour correction by the color checker was also invaluable to me. This course is so affordable. I would recommend it to anyone from beginner to advanced as you will get more out of it than you think. I love the way Lindsay and Erik work together. No right or wrong way - just showing the differences in their styles to accomplish the same end result. Well done guys. Now to have more courses by Erik would be great. Again, can't' thank creative live enough and Erik and Lindsay for this course. Love, Love, Love It!!!!
You guys are doing the BEST CHARITY work by providing free classes. This is no less than feeding a kid hungry for past 100 days! :) Love you guys..keep it on. Full marks! :)
so far i'm enjoying this to death. almost at the end of day 1. i should have watched this a long time ago. i am, however, trying to find in the videos a piece of equipment they talked about. it would have been so so so nice if they had included a download with all the equipment that they used so we didn't have to go hunting through the videos for the information.
A+. I've been a prosumer photographer for years and have spent a lot on books to help me on this journey. I was initially skeptical of this course because I was worried it would simply repeat what I have heard elsewhere. My fears were unfounded. This course was incredible, and the instructors great. My favorite thing is how each instructor approached photography differently--Lindsay with her aperture priority process, and Erik with his manual mode process. No dogmatism or evangelism from either side, just live demonstrations of techniques and results. Incredible. Hats off to CreativeLive for this wonderful course.
Great! Course! August 13.2013 post, i agree. Learned a lot, Technical, always...but Artistic Seeing...another plus in use with the Technical. Worth my investment in this course. PS: luv CreaticeLive!
Love this class...I refer to it often...good instructor
I had this class in my wishlist for a while. Started to watch the rebroadcast last week and decided it would be a valuable resource to help with all kinds of lighting situations using natural and flash. I think it will be very useful.
