How to Take Amazing Photos with your DSLR with Julia Kelleher

Such a helpful course, especially the tips on metering, lighting, posing, and lenses! Course is packed with lots of functional, truly helpful information on a variety of important aspects of photography. Learned a lot. Really enjoyed this one!

There are several people criticising Julia that she is winging it and not prepared. Please do note that this course is called "How to take amazing photos with your DSLR" which translate to DSLR Photography 101. You should not expect a Master Class or specialisation class (ie Portrait, Food, Product, Wedding etc). This is for the amateurs and not semi professional/people with some knowledge on DSLR photography because a little knowledge can be dangerous. If you take this course with an open mind and as a beginner/amateur looking for a course to learn what you can do with your DSLR and take better pictures with it. This is the course for you. If you are looking for technical and specialisation, then look for specialise courses. This course is parked under fundamentals of Photography therefore please set your expectations correctly.

I wasn't able to view the whole class but I thought her teaching style was fun and had a great personality. I think this is a great class for a person just getting into photography. Will help them to define what they like to do and with the little amount of equipment it can be done with.

Julia is an awesome teacher and very entertaining. One quality she has which I really appreciate is how humble she is in setting up studio shots which accurately show the "down and dirty" and emphasize how even a professional of her caliber has to coax clients and take shot after to shot to get it right. Her explanations are easy to understand and pertinent. Thanks. I hope she teaches other classes at Creative Live -have not looked yet...

Watching this class was a huge help to me when I was asked to photograph a friend's pet. It was still intimidating but having watched Julia do it gave me just enough confidence and helpful tips to successfully pull it off. Thanks Julia!

This is the first time I have seen any of Julie's video training. She is absolutely amazing! She is clear, concise, and very informative without being too technical in imparting good foundational information. She is truly one of the best I have seen. She clearly has demonstrated that she is a very capable, competent, and knowledgeable professional. I look forward to viewing more of her training. I will be purchasing her courses and I would recommend to all my friends.

Julia is an amazing teacher!!!! Funny, go with the flow, honest, and obviously so gifted at what she does. That came through and also inspired those feelings in me as a novice photographer. I left her class feeling excited to play with my camera and appreciate that she encouraged me to use what I have now and get good before spending tons of money on fancier stuff. I also love that she showed how everyday materials from Home Depot can make for great images. I particularly appreciated the 2nd day on product photography, social media images and the short demos in PhotoShop. Please do a full class on just this Julia/Creative Live!!!!!

The best thing about this class is that it covers various subjects and you get to see first hand how to get over some of the obstacles that you may run into during any of the things covered. Julia has a great way of explaining even some of the most technical things so that you can understand them. This is a great class to get your feet wet and then use what you learned to start swimming.

This class is jam-packed with everything you need to start taking pictures with your DSLR. I love that she covered a variety of photographic genres from families, pets and kids to products, mock-ups and even lighting!! It's a perfect one stop shop!! Julia is an amazing teacher and is able to take a complex concept and break it down into bite size digestible chunks that you can understand!! This class is GOLD!!

Julia is such an amazing teacher, I love how she explains things that have always boggled my mind. I had a bunch of aha moment in this class! She covered a lot of topics in the class and I think it's a great class for beginner /intermediate photographers.

Very good instructor. I've been a photographer for over 20 years, but you can always learn something.

Really enjoyed this class with Julia. She is high energy with many practical tips and clear explanations of complex concepts that I plan to use to improve my photography skills with a DSLR past the basic exposure triangle. I especially loved the sessions where I saw her demonstrate the vast range of artistry with a single light source and how to manipulate the location of the that light source in conjunction with our camera settings to create beautiful images. I recommend the course to anyone who is frustrated with improperly exposed or "soft" photos when using a DSLR on manual settings.

What an awesome class! I am not a beginner and am currently making a living as a photographer and was interested in this class because #1 Julia is such a great teacher with such talent and #2 I was expecting to take away some valuable information to pass along to my little after school beinning photo club. I am happy to report Julia did not disappoint:-) What actually happened was that I learned so many things that I probably should have known being a seasoned professional that I lost track of my original intention of why I was there. I couldn't wait to pull out my camera and try all of the new things that I had just learned. The color balancing and the little dot showing when your camera (Nikon) was manually focused alone was worth the price. I enjoyed every minute of this course. Thanks Julia! Anyone would benefit from this course....

Definitely a great class for newbies but a LOT of helpful tidbits if you've been shooting a while as well. Julia has a great teaching style and can really break things down into understandable bite sized chunks!

Julia's class from beginning to end was full of wonder and awe, and packed with so much information--all presented with Julia's unique flair. Julia knows how to remove the mystery from that little black box called a DSLR camera, and its bosom buddies, Light and Manual. I will refer to this course over and over as I work to improve my photographic skills. It also was such a treat to be an audience participant at Julia's amazing Amazing Photos with DSLR class! Thank you Creative Live and Julia!! I wish you were around 14 years ago, my journey would have been soooo much easier!! This class is not worth $79... it is worth 10 times that much. A drop in the bucket compared to what you will learn!! Buy it and watch it over and over!!

So first off I've been doing photography for a little bit now and only shot in manual 20% of the time and was okay with it. Since coming to this class and seeing how manual mode isn't scary, it is everything you need and want in the life of photography, I now will not use anything else. The team at Creative Live is amazing and Julia's love for other starting and even professional photographers is amazing. She would sit and talk to us together and individually and really loves those who love photography. I would recommend this class and any other one of Julia's classes here on CreativeLive. I can't wait to come back. Was AMAZING!!! LIFE CHANGING!!!

Awesome class! I had so many "a-ha" moments. I could have saved myself so much time with Julia's tips and shortcuts. The simple way Julia explains the interaction of light and different surfaces and angles really helped me to think differently about approaching a shot. I'm excited to go and actually practice it now!
