Natural Light Control is part of our special week-long event Lighting Toolkit.
Join award-winning photographer Tony Corbell for an in-depth exploration of how light works and how it can be controlled to create dramatic images.
After decades of shooting prominent figures—including three presidents—on location, Tony has developed a set of tools that will help you shoot confidently in any setting. Many photographers test light as they work; Tony’s methods will allow you to understand and plan light before you even begin.
Tony will guide you through the basics of light quality, quantity, and direction. Tony’s unique methods will resonate with amateurs, seasoned professionals, and everyone in between.
I can't get enough of Tony Corbell's classes. He is definitely a very experienced and knowledgeable professional and, in his presentations, he teaches while being friendly sounding and even somewhat humble. So, always a 5 star for his courses. That said, I don't know if it is him, CreativeLive, my monitor or what but, even though - as he often shows - his histogram looks great, I think just about every pic he shows is - to me - somewhere around a 1/3 to a full stop overexposed. Maybe that's just the way he likes things to look and, technically, they are "properly exposed", but I'd never deliver shots that light or bright personally. That said - again - I'll keep watching because he's a great instructor and I've definitely learned so much from him!
I wish I had *started* with this course. There's just so much to learn here, I know I will be watching this again and taking better notes the next time around. Outrageously valuable instruction right here for the taking.
This brief class was excellent. Both informative & inspiring. I learned more about metering and exposure than on almost any other class. Tony's style is engaging, and it is truly eye-opening to watch a professional at work. [off to investigate other classes he's done on here...]. L
A great course for a photographer at any level wanting to learn about shooting in natural light while adding some flash. Tony's hands on approach is extremely effective showing that a simple alley or even a roof top can be successfully used to obtain great portraits. Definitely worth the very cheap price and very inspiring, two thumbs up.
Tony, Lindsay? Tony, Lindsay?.... I can't decide which photographer is my favorite. Tony is a wealth of information and funny as well. Love everyone of his courses! I don't know how anyone could not love his courses....I learn something from each one of his courses!
Amazing class! Learned so much!
I just love this guy. Tony has a very real world teaching style. You get the feeling as if you are actually in the room with him in a conversation. Money well spent. - Thank you Tony!
WOW! I cannot stop watching! Is there anything that Tony (the Photo Daddy) can't do?
Tony is such an engaging teacher. Absolutely fabulous class. He presents valuable information in a way that is accessible to beginners while simultaneously demystifying many technical challenges encountered by professionals.
Tons of useful tips here. Yes, it takes its time but that's how questions and explanations come to light. For those complaining about the name, I believe that the name says it all (as well the chapters). How do you expect to control the natural light? Over 3hrs of teaching using only reflectors?
I would like the class a whole lot better if I could enjoy watching it! It should not take me all day to watch a 37 minute video!!!!!!!!
Great course, great tutor who explains things in a way that is clear to understand. However I purchased the course based on its title - Natural light control - the course is more about balancing/manipulating natural light with speedlights, soft boxes etc, the title is misleading.
Pretty good stuff, but I didn't like the fact that the students did not get a chance to shoot. It would have been great to see them fumble around, make mistakes and learn from them.
Great course. Many interesting ideas and beautiful explanations on how to understand and use available light. I'll be revisiting this course a few times. Thank you Tony & Creativelive.
Loved watching Tony's course. Tony went over shooting indoors, outdoors, in bright light, in an alley, on a rooftop, using reflectors, garage lighting, using a light meter, using flash, using window light and more. I'm looking forward to re-watching Tony's course.
Tony keeps it simple and gives good examples, although occasionally I had to pause the video to study them well enough - because the editor was keeping the timing overly tight in a few places. In some cases it would also have been nice to have two shots side by side for comparison, but Tony was great.
Woooow!!! Am just starting the 4th lesson and am totally enthralled by this!!! An awesome tutorial and one I'd HIGHLY recommend to any photographer out there. Yes, even the seasoned pros, that may know a lot, but I'd say there's something you'd learn here :{)))
Fantastic course! I love Tonys 'no nonsense' approach. Meter, meter, meter! Don't just 'guess', let the meter do the work for you! I have a couple other courses from Tony, I have learned from every single one.
Absolutely love Tony, it makes you feel comfortable and confident. Tony you are a fabulous teacher, and mentor. Thanks a million for your laid back, caring attitude that helps me believe I can do this.
I just tuned in and learned something new straight away. :)
Tony's course was brilliant..he makes the tech stuff so simple and MEMORABLE! this is a great foundation course that everyone should have. what can you do with a light source and a diffuser/reflectors? make some magic happen by understanding light and the way you can control it. I am excited to "learn my craft!" thanks creative live for having him on and thanks to Tony for doing such a great job...with humour!
As a person that has retired and has a Fuji X20 with none of the gear Tony has it was a pleasure to have him open my imagination. I'm a Howard Stern fan and he had mentioned Creative Live on his radio program and whatever people say about Howard one thing he is a perfectionist and I value his opinion.
This course with Tony Corbell is great! He has a great method of communicating and teaching his information that is engaging, witty and very simple. He provides examples, quotes and philosophies that make the information and concepts just click.
