Jan/2025 Great short class with condensed relevant content regarding the basics of photography. Amazing teacher - clear speech, straight to the point, and with a nice jokes and funny demos.

John has a helpful way to demonstrate how to learn and understand some of the terminology of using a camera. This class breaks down a LOT of the complicated areas into simple language and with examples that can be understood to someone that is starting out in photography. John has a friendly approach with a clear voice for teaching a beginner. Learning is also about doing, making mistakes, understand what I need to apply to get the shot right. I have some homework to do to do. Shoot in raw, composition, direction of light angles. I would certainly RECOMMEND this course. Excellent explanation on learning. Helen😊 ( Australia)

Great teaching from an excellent teacher! Even after shooting for a few years now, I still learned something from this class. Short and compact!

Would be great for an updated 2019 list of cameras and more discussion on ISO, but otherwise great!

Although I am a more advanced user I enjoyed watching these videos. I would have focused more on the "compositions" aspects of it, 5 minutes out of circa 100 is really a small amount of time to be mentioned in the title of the course!

I enjoyed this quick and concise overview as a refresher. I love John's teaching style and will be looking for more of his classes Thanks!

I have been working in photography a long time (since elementary school) but have a difficult time with changing settings with carpal tunnel. This helped tremendously and will implement as I go. And I am visual and all the visual displays were a tremendous help!!

  • S. Dec 5, 2015

This course is perfect for those who are just starting out. As a semi-newbie with a Nikon D3300, I find that it unfortunately doesn't go into as much detail as I'd like. But seeing as I got the class for free and John did acknowledge it was a bit of a crash course. One great thing was about composition. I hadn't done any research on it and appreciated the little bit he said on it. So I will be taking this course as a springboard! Thanks!

If you are new to photography or need a refresher on the basics.. Take this class! I learned more basics in this 90 class then I did taking 3 classes here locally. The info is simple and easy to follow. The pictures and graphs make it easy to follow along. Great job. This is class 1 of my series to launch my career. Thank you John for sharing.
