Once you know what’s happening with your camera and flash you can do almost anything. Speedlights open up a new realm in your photography. They are light to carry, quick to set up. And you never know when you're going to need that extra light for a more dramatic image.
This workshop will give you the confidence to incorporate small portable flash in your photography toolkit. From shooting receptions at weddings or adding drama in senior portraits, this workshop will include lots of live shooting examples that will help everything make sense. Get ready to take your photography to the next level. Once you start working with a portable flash, you'll never understand how you lived without them.
I learned many things about speed lights. Mark is very talented and make things easy to understand; in 2022 many of the techniques are still aplicable. Sarah the model is very beautiful but was evident that was bored in Amy of the videos. so far an excellent course. Well done.
Excellent course really enjoyable and very informative learned so much about light and speed lights. Love the way Mark teaches his course so easy to understand and then go away and practice Thank You Mark for your lessons.
Excellent class, I have been using speedlights for some time and this class has helped me sort out a number of issues I have been having. Thank you Mark Wallace, your presentation and practical demonstrations are second to none.
Lots of good information. Really wish there was a guide book to go with it.
Thank you so much for this class! I don't have either Nikon or Canon, but I have still taken away something from this because the concepts are relatively the same. I never knew that speedlights were harder to learn than studio strobes so no wonder why I never went to them! I never liked to shoot weddings either because a lot of it was a mystery to me until now. I could achieve a decent shot, but it was never consistent. I shoot with Cactus and Fujifilm (They had HSS before Fuji did or something like that and is why I bought it), but it does have TTL functionality. I am now more confident that I can get some great results with my speedlights!
Mark Wallace! You rock! I’m a Nikon user and have had my SB Speed light for years. I’ve tried to learn it via the manual other options. When I saw your class advertised on FB I signed up. I had no idea how much of a help these instructional videos would be...just what had been looking for. You clarified so much for me. I appreciated your details of how to use the Nikon flash system (and for those who use Canon, he included that too) Yes, there was a lot of information in the beginning but it certainly was foundational building and so helpful as the videos progressed. Definitely worth 100% thumbs up 👍🏻
I enjoy Mark's Photography Knowledge, although I personally have a hard time following him, he seems to "Jump Around" with explanations of a certain subject, Ex... The Balancing of Flash & Ambient Light. I am a 70 year old Nikon Photographer.
I thought this was a very comprehensive course that I learned a lot from. I enjoyed Mark's style and will look for from him. I understand the limitations and unexpected challenges due to the live format, but felt that Mark handled them very well. Even though these were filmed live, I wish they were edited in post production to trim the fat and further clarify the concepts using more visual aids and voice-overs. It's not possible to see that kind of polish in a live class, but would really benefit the viewers whi weren't watching it real-time. I came away with a much better understanding of working with speedlites, modifiers, and the relationship of elements in the exposure triangles as they relate to flash photography. I have many notes to help me practice and learn the concepts Mark presented. I would rate this 7.5/10, but with post production work, it could easily be a 10/10!
I love the course. Mark is very knowledgeable and after this course I feel I can do so much more with flashes and improve my photography.
I don't understand why the reviews are mixed on this class! Mark Wallace really is a great teacher and this class is probably one of the best on Speedlights that I have ever seen. Even though, I understand lighting (now), I have learned so much more about light from this class and when I need a review on certain things, I rewatch it.
Mark's wealth of knowledge combined with his engaging and 'fun', experimental approach to teaching is a winner. I learned a great deal but what truly reinforces the learning is that he actually shows what he is talking about. He gets a question and quickly sets up the practical demo for the answer. Brilliant. Given that this session took place some time ago ( but by no means diminishishes the tremendous learning value) the lessons and knowledge are based techniques that will stand the test of time; however, if I was advising Mark on his teaching techniques, the main are a of 'focus' would be to be more effective with his demonstrations. He holds the back of the camera up, makes his point quickly and then moves on, just as the video is locking on. Great idea to talk about what button you are pushing, but when your fingers are obscuring the 'learning point' it diminishes the effectiveness of the demo. Overall great course which I will watch parts again and highly recommend it. Thank you PS Give both Kelsey and John and huge hug as they are all-stars making things happen!
I became a fan of Mark from his Adorama videos. This course, as expected from Mark, conveys the information in clear and concise manner.
This course was the one that gave me my "AH HA" moment! Mark is my kind of teacher. Thank you a thousand times Mark and Creative live :-)
Simply fantastic - I have no more words
Really enjoyed this course. Mark's delivery is brilliant. It took me an age to find the time to get through it all but really looked forward to the times I had the opportunity to watch. I've gone from being terrified of speed lights to using them all the time with a degree of confidence. Thanks Mark.
This is a very important class for any photographer. and there's some funny parts. Mark is a wealth of knowledge.
I'm still trying to get a grasp at speedlights, and this class was a perfect leap into learning all about them. Understanding that there is just so much information on speedlights, Mark does a great job in explaining it for someone just learning. Well done, Mark! Thanks so much for such a great class! And what a surprising treat at the end with real-life speedlight ninjas! hahaaa. :)
I LOVE THIS CLASS
The negative comments about this class are right, but nevertheless, I really liked this class. This class is like that thick book on speed lights that has sat on my book shelf for years. Mark has a "thick book" knowledge on the subject. If you don't learn something from him you either weren't listening or you stop watching. I have been using flash for forty years, and now I know how lucky I was that things turned out. You could criticize the class for being too long or for sections where the purpose was not clear. But overall, I think this class is comparable to a university level class. A great thing was that there were no tests, no papers and consider how much a college cost you these days.
I loved this class. informative and to the point!
Learning alot but if I were Kelsey, the assistant I would walk off the job...to me he seems condescending towards her, not polite and bossy.
Did you meant Lighting course?! I am a beginner and from start l didn get anything!! Werent you suppouse at firsth to explain how does the buttons work on speedlights so that l can follow you afterwards??? very dissapointed AND very very very very BAD humor. It’s painful watching even.. sorri
I am watching this for the second time. I like how he covers both Canon and Nikon flashes and settings. Plus, he goes over all the basic info. I made notes using Evernote, so that I can look up anything I want when out and about and have questions re: flash. I went to a party and used his recommended settings for an indoor party, and the photos were great.
Mark is such a great teacher and leaves no stone unturned on how to work with speedlights. Appreciate him showing what can go wrong, why and how to rectify the issue. Very happy with purchase. 👍👍
Loved this course and Mark's teaching style. I learned so much and have been applying what I have learned with success. Thanks to Mark and everyone else at creative live!!
