The information presented is great but it would be better if I could see the TV screen showing the images instead of the presenter standing in front of it and blocking it. So, either stand to the side or change up the camera angle filming it.

I wish they'd give a star system, because I'd rank this class a three. It is mostly basic information, nothing really out of the ordinary to learn. Essentially, men are human beings and just like women have insecurities and fears about their image that you, as their photographer, have to alleviate to make them look and feel their best. The contouring with light was great, but yeah. A solid, middle of the road class. I agree with many of the other reviewers that mention Jeff's "nervous" tick: "perfect." The self-deprecating humor was definitely off-putting and read more as lack of social comfortability than anything meant to put a client at ease. I should mention, I watched most of this course with the video running at 1.5x because... I don't think I could have handled it at regular speed. That said - not everyone is Sue Bryce (excellent teacher), and I will take this course as though I were sitting in the room - meaning, you don't always get an excellent seminar and sometimes you might feel like falling asleep. ;)

I'm new to men's portrait photography and I'm enjoying this class.

I don't understand all the hate this course got. Jeff Rojas did a fantastic job, especially the part about face shapes. I do wish he would have included the chart as one of his downloads when we purchased the class. Mr. Rojas has a sense of humor, easy to listen to, engaging, and full of knowledge. He uses men from the class as real life subjects. He shows before and afters to show you the differences of how things look. I saw reviews stating "I already knew all this stuff". Well kudos to you for having learned it...shame on you for dissing someone for teaching it. I knew most of the material covered in this course and I still found it interesting AND I am able to review it in an unbiased way for those that are still learning. Look at the course chapters before buying any class and see if it covers something you haven't learned yet.

this course was worth every penny. Full of practical information and excellent demonstrations. Jeff needs to quit with the crotch comments though ..it was like ...really AGAIN? why are you so obsessed with saying crotch crotch crotch good God. Apart from THAT (which I think was just silly nerves) I really do recommend this class. Jeff is actually very very good. I admire his work. Thanks Jeff I learned a lot!!

  • Maik H. Nov 23, 2017

This was difficult to watch. Some of the information is valuable, the presenter certainly knows his stuff. However, he is painfully boring to watch, more than half of the course is spend awkwardly trying to be funny, waiting for laughs that never come. If this course could be edited to make the content more concise and easier to follow, it would certainly increase the value of the course.

Move over John, here comes Lindsay ! Every time Lindsay Adler assists on a shoot, it must be a good tutorial ! :) But seriously, this tutorial is presented in a clear, non-intimidating, and easy-to-understand language. Can be used in variety of situations, not only when shooting with men. Loaded with information. Certainly worth of the money. Highly recommend !

  • Adriano C. Feb 6, 2017

I am sure he knows what he does well, but the way he teaches, it is a little bit boring. He thinks his jokes are funny but actually irritates. Again, he is a great photographer, but should watch a little bit of Sue Brice to improve his teaching skills.

I had seen this class live and in my opinion Jeff is the best photographer around in the market.. the reason i say this is coz : 1) He does not use any fancy stuff.. minimum equipment max results 2) He does things which others have neglected. Men's photography is untapped market 3) He is very clear of what he speaks and he knows his job very well 4) Results are outstanding need to see more of him on CL

Its a good class, I like Jeff's style. This will help me add men's portraiture to my offering, as well as help with my guy seniors. Fun drinking game while watching the video: Every time Jeff says crotch, you have to drink. You'll need a 5 gallon drum of liquor, and a strong liver, to play this game :)

I find Jeff's videos useful but would strongly recommend 2 things: a) He must learn to speak slower. Not everyone who is paying for his videos has English mother tongue, and he it can be demanding understanding him. b) videos needs to be edited. about 30% could be cut out that is useless and time-waster. This is often the case with Creativelive videos.

This course is phenomenal. Jeff's easy going and thorough presentation style is very effective! The posing guide itself is worth the investment. Thanks for putting this together Creative Live and thanks Jeff.

Untapped market. Get this course while the competition is low. Most people think it's not fun to photograph me...but Jeff takes it to another level and makes it fun and easy to do. Pointers, nuggets, gems....whatever you want to call it, like Prego sauce, it's in there.

  • Siim K. May 28, 2016

Let me begin by saying that I highly recommend this class. Jeff's easygoing method of teaching is clear and concise and with excellent pace. I'd say the greatest value of the whole thing is Jeff's approach to lighting and shooting in general - how to compliment the subject without hiding anything. Also, you learn how to edit your photos efficiently, without overdoing them or spending hours behind the computer. After absorbing this training you should be able to make any person look good and interesting, regardless if they have a sixpack or chiseled jaw line.

I've taken a lot of photography training in the last couple of years. Jeff is outstanding. I didn't realize that this content would have such an impact on me. The lighting sections were the best I've seen and the psychological impact of us men having good photos is a wonderful subject to bring to light. The class is great. Jeff is great. CL is great.

  • Miachelle D. Dec 28, 2015

I haven't finished the course yet, I've only watched the first four videos. As far as the content up to this point, Jeff does a great job about resetting the psychological perspective on photographing men, and reestablishing that while all subjects are different, they are equal. I also like that he has a simplistic approach to his photography, from start to final product. I am looking forward to watching the rest of the segments, as I love to photograph men and would love to specialize my career towards photographing men. My one critique is that the first four videos seem to end abruptly, which is annoying. I've watched some other classes on Creative Live, and I've seen the producers do a better job of ending segments and transitioning each video.

Jeff's course delivers exactly as advertized. He's easy to follow, refreshingly candid about his own techniques, and most importantly to me willing and able to impart practical know-how that he himself uses in his business. The first thing that convinced me of the course's worth is Jeff's strive to "shoot the light" and shoot it so as to draw out the best in his male subjects' features. He knows body types, facial types, and what works and doesn't work in certain shoots, and delivers all you need to know to get started in whatever environment you shoot in. His posing particularly impressed me, and immediately sparked some ideas in me for creating and sculpting my next shoot. I finished watching this course finding no area that I felt was left untouched. Great job.

This is a great class as shooting men has often been overlooked. Will give wedding, family, and portrait photographers a lot of information from posing, lighting and clothing that will take their photography to the next level. I wish he would have had the tables he refers to available in a PDF format, as they would be handy. I finally printed a screen shot for reference. (a little spoiled by the excellent PDF's that Lindsay Adler has)

The suit fitment was a benefit, the class had some good material, but left me wanting to re-address it in a more logical and concise order, specifically lighting for different shaped faces. The diagrams would have helped me understand more and require less space if it were all combined on one page: for example; have 3 columns, the first column start with a line for the image of a square shaped face, the face diagram for lighting in the second column, and the actual light diagram needed for that face in the 3rd column, next line round face etc. and all with labels underneath. I believe this could have also helped me understand a little better when showing the actual images side by side, because none of them were labled as to the correct light for that subject. The video was somewhat difficult to discern the slight differences in the images and Jeff didn't explain the correct ones until after about the 4th image. Overall he covered a lot of material and it was worth the investment. I did buy clips for the suits and blotting sheets which I also will be a benefit and loved the explanation of how to determine face shape and the "difficult" chart. Wide angle lens choice, did surprise me and I'm still debating if it's something I'll incorporate because there did still seem to be some facial distortion, but it was good information. Overall good work Jeff.

I watched this class for free and am saving up to buy it. First of all confirmed! Sigma lens are nothing to be ashamed of and since I love my one main lens, Sigma I immediately felt a rapport. Then listening to the fascinating insights about men and their feelings when confronted by a lens and...what to do with folks who have shaved heads or a little large. Some of the tips were great! Adding a decoration on suit front like a flower or handkerchief, and how to get the suits looking FIT! and well, I plunged into man world and it was a super education. By day two I was amazed by Jeff's generosity. Basically all his experience, all his favorite lighting techniques and painstaking attention to detail. I would have to watch Day two zillions of times to actually be able to absorb all the scenarios and effects. Im going to buy some suit clips Jeff and clip a bunch of suits in back and front to gorgeous my male subjects out. Thank you again for a wonderful, wonderful class.

Loved this class, I learned a lot and Jeff is a Great teacher, It's fun, not boring, and had great info. on how light can get used to shape the face and more. I purchased this due to the fact that I learned a lot and wanted to work on the info. Best Jerald

  • Lisa K. Nov 26, 2014

Watched it live. Though it's specifically about shooting men, I felt like I learned a lot about lighting and portrait-making in general. The concepts of using light, distance, and lens choice to "shape" faces/bodies were really well explained.
