Creative costumes are pretty much always a Halloween hit -- especially if they're topical, involve a pun, or are otherwise a little outside the box -- but before the days of pop-up Halloween stores and online ordering, costumes were creative because they had to be. Whether it was a crafty mom who was especially adept at the sewing machine, or clever kids who put in the work on found objects and cardboard, the Halloween costumes of previous eras involved a lot of innovative thinking and handiwork.

Having worked on many bridal shoots as a model and involved in several real weddings before, I’ve picked up some things that I hope might help a few others.

It's really no surprise that the woman who made a name for herself shooting photos of infants in adorable costumes has a line of costumes for the little one in your life. Ranging from cuddly koalas to beautiful bunnies, the Anne Geddes Halloween line is pretty adorable.

I was in Wausau, Wisconsin visiting mentor and friend Dave Junion while giving a lecture at a high school. We threw together a photo shoot after I remarked how incredible it would be to move a boat into the forest.

Of course, there are times when doing work for free can be justified, especially if you have a personal attachment to the project (designer Jessica Hische advises you always do work for your mother), or if you really do believe it's the best way to gain exposure that could lead to paying work later.

Once a fairly niche market, the advent of the smart phone has made food photography infinitely more prolific. In every magazine and on every website these days, it certainly affects what we eat and cook, not to mention what we share socially.

We labor over ever word, every description, trying to ensure that a casual observer will be able to immediately identify all of our best qualities.
