Earn more by offering editorial portraits
Professional portraits go beyond the standard headshot. With the age of social networking upon us, businesses often have the need for environmental and editorial portraits. Not only will you understand individual portraits, but you will also learn to execute large group posing for corporate clients. By adding these to your client sessions, you can add to your business plan AND widen your target client outreach.
One of the best Creative Live Course. Thank you Gary your are a really nice instructor and photographer.
This is one of the best, if not the best of all courses I have taken with Creativelive. Gary shared lots of ready-to-use tips and techniques very easy to apply. Even when many of the gear is not that relevant in May 2022, still all the technical content is current and relevant to improve my photography knowledge. I repeated several of the chapter to digest such amount of information shared by Gary. Thank you so much.
Great course learned a lot about lighting and poses for different kinds of shots Love the way, Gary teaches full of humor but really gets the point of the lesson across. Thank You, Gary, for a great course Dave UK
Excellent course, two thumbs up! I do this type of work and am extremely impressed with how thoroughly he explains it. He is a really great instructor.
Very impressed with the course, very full and relevant with down to earth ideas. It will take me some time to digest it all but well worth it. Gary Hughes speaks from extensive experience as well as knowledge. This is my second purchase of Gary Hughes material and I am well impressed.
One of my favorites so far. Gary is a charismatic and engaging speaker who covers a tremendous amount of territory in this class. Super practical approach to getting the job done with an eye for maximizing time and profits. I especially appreciate how he demonstrated shooting in CL's facilities! It was great to see the problem solving of a pro photographer in action. (Plus, what a treat to see CL's behind the scenes!) Well worth the price.
Great course by Gary Hughes. Lots of examples and very in depth. "When you make someone laugh it's not the crack up that you want it's the glowing afterwards that you want." "If you want business, you have to ask for it. You have to follow up. You have to be persistent. Follow up quarterly. Ask for it." Another top instructor from CreativeLive.
The tips for Professional Portraits is awesome ... Gary is touching on things other teachers do not cover... ALL these "LITTLE" things that make THE difference such as delivering fast, taking away barriers, being fast , dress code and attitude. Love it
Gary’s approach is easy to follow and understand. He provides lots of useful information and teaches students a framework that is practical and a good base to build on. I got a lot from the course. Thank you.
Amazing course, love how organized and straight it is! VERY useful information in every minute of it
I love Gary's straight teaching style, and appreciate him demonstrating with regular people, not models. This is the real life of a regular photographer! I wish Creative Live could show more from the photographers viewpoint, so that when he's posing and moving lights etc, we see exactly what he's changing, and can analyze why... not sure how they'd achieve this in a live environment though. Loved his going around to less than ideal locations and finding the place that works. My favourite course on Creative Live so far.
I love this course. I've done a lot of online and face-to-face photography courses and still, the "Moving Beyond Headshots" course is one of the best courses I've ever done. Gary is not only a great presenter and he also knows how to combine all necessary components of a successful photography business together. My partner Rob who's also a keen photographer made a comment "this guy knows his stuff!"
This is a great introduction to photographing people in a corporate setting. I wasn't sure what level the course was and watched it and found that it had a lot of solid info for people entering this field or even as a refresher for some practicing photographers. I like Gary's friendly, yet no-nonsense approach to his business. I felt that he set realistic expectations for this type of work and dealt with the business, marketing, and photographic ends equally well. It was dense with information that was easy to grasp and covered real-world scenarios.
Oh my god! I so agree with him when it comes to the non-digital equipment. SO much easier when you have a slider than having to push buttons up and down. Mr. Hughes has a sense of humor which I like. Keeps from getting boring. I am able to follow most of what says since he speaks to us without always using numbers and formulas.
Overall, a good class. I do wish Gary would have gone more into licensing, pricing, and some in-depth business aspects of headshot photography.
Half way through this course and really enjoying it. Have learned a lot already!! I can't however get the link to work on the 'gear guide' PDF file. It seems like the link in the document is not working. Any chance you can fix this?
Gary is super knowledgable, yet down-to-earth and relatable. I love how he explains the exact gear he uses but also describes ways to accomplish the same look using DIY and less expensive alternatives. The segment where he demos a live shoot in multiple, difficult lighting situations is worth the cost of the class alone! Bonus: He's super funny. He could probably double as a comedian on the side, but I digress. This class was informative, funny, and very practical for any photographer that wants to increase their profit and expand their business into the professional world. He gives all his prices and workflows so you can get up and running in 2 days! :) Awesome class overall, and it's a great sequel to his professional headshot class (which I also bought and loved.)
This is one of the best classes I have seen, and I have seen a LOT! I stumbled upon it and thought I would watch it for a bit while doing something else. Quickly, I was completely engrossed. Awesome class. I got a lot out of it. Gary is a phenomenal instructor. Unlike some others, he is truly an educator. I hope to learn even more from Gary in the future! I recommend this class wholeheartedly.
Gary did it again. Full of super practical tips and techniques. I can't watch this enough.
Great information. Gary is a great teacher challenging creative artists to think outside the box for portraits headshots. Thank you.
Gary makes taking editorial portraits look simple and fun. I want to start shooting heads! I love Creative live and Gary is really doing a great job. I got to buy the class next. Thank you.
Great class by Gary. Really enjoyed his session on the lighting techniques and the live demonstration on how to shoot on location. Also I learned a lot from him on posing a group of people.
Gary has a very relaxed and total involvement teaching style. During the past 2 day have gained more in-depth knowledge of lighting and composing then I’ve learned from others. The on location problem solving session was a great eye opening and full of “could-of-had-a- V8” moments. Looks like the class members had a fun time in the composing the group shot.
I love listening to Gary. He doesn't take himself too seriously but he's deadly serious about his photography. What a lovely chap with oodles of information and top tips. Thank you Gary.
He has decent work. Im sure people will learn good things from him.
