Fundamentals of Photography
John Greengo
the most powerful tool in a retouchers hand
Software Used: Adobe Photoshop CC 2017.1.1
Chris Knight is not only a master photographer, he's a master educator. The way he uses technology to illustrate challenging areas is pure genius. I also love the way he brings history into his teachings. We're blessed to have educators like Chris in the community.
One of the best instruction about DB i have seen. So well explained, good pace, lots of valuable stuff in this class. I saw many classes about this topic, so there are many ways to do DB. Only question i have is more particular about retouching, are there not newer techniques?
Fantastic master class. Chris really knows his stuff.
Seems nice, but I have some issues with Photoshop. For example I can't use Spot Healing Brush Tool on a empty layer. He do not explain it from begging, so I feel stuck again. Anyway it's cheap so You can buy it, if you want to know something more
First, I would say that this isn't so much an intro class; nor is it an advanced session. There are definitely useful tips and tricks in this course in terms of layering work in photoshop and one methodology for using a tool set in the program. I can appreciate that Chris Knight uses his B&W approach in terms of editing and switches back and forth to minimize distractions color can provide. As long as you come into this class with the concept that this is for beauty retouching and not concepts of lighting or photography you should enjoy this course.
I have tried to understand this before with no success. I now feel like I understand it enough to start practicing. It's organised and full of tips but more importantly, it's also concise.
Great course on dodging and burning and beauty retouching in general. Think he went through all the steps very thoroughly. Well explained and overall a good course. Would highly recommend it to anyone into portrait and beauty photography.
I have viewed many Creative Live classes and rank this one among the best. Chris very effectively organized his class to impart knowledge. He Starts with an overview and summary level walk thru of the process and then goes into details and does an actual retouch. He concludes with a lesson on what can go wrong and provides practice images. I highly recommend this class to anyone seeking to learn Dodge and Burn. Thank-you Chris for a great educational experience!
A highly recommended class! Chris Knight is super efficient and tremendously clear an instructor. He manages to sqeeze so much useful information and tips into this hour, that I have to go back and revisit several times before i get it all. That may say something anout me myself, but I think also about the efficiency of the instructor. Very good!
I found this course to be a great explanation of dodging burning. I found the pace to be great and the information helpful. Chris is a great instructor.
I had many classes related to this topic. Those might went into PS in more details BUT from those were missing what I could found in this course. This course made me step up 1 or 2 level on dodging and burning. I finally understood it soul. Of course Chris was as brilliant as we would expected! I just could recommend this course!!!!
Great class. I've seen several by Chris and they are all great.
Bought this course along with a few others during Photoweek 2017 and followed it through. Glad I did, because even though I practiced it already a few times, the outcome wasn’t always that great. Because of Chris’ explanation and the examples he had, I feel it makes a lot more sense now. If you’re serious about Dodging and Burning, then this course comes heartily recommended!
I found this short course very useful. Chris's approach is a little different to others I've watched and it makes more sense to me, with a more desirable outcome. I also have his book and now everything has fallen into place and I fully understand the process. I personally feel like these techniques are the post processing edge I've been looking for in my work, but I always fell a little short.
Chris was very articulate and focused on his delivery of this essential retouching technique. Great value for such a crucial development of my retouching technique
Chris Knight kept a nice pace throughout the class and made it seem accessible, yet thorough. I especially appreciated that he included before and after shots that showed exactly where he applied dodging and burning. The examples of "bad work" were also helpful so it's easier to see common mistakes newbies make. He also put some practice images on his website so his students have some good images to try this technique on. Would recommend.
