The Business of Professional Headshots with Gary Hughes

Great class. I've been doing headshots in a rather haphazard way for a while. This class showed me so many ways to improve my work. Thanks, Gary! I include licensing with my day rate. So instead of charging $1000 for a half day, I charge $1500. Then I don't get questions from clients.

In my opinion, this is the best headshot class offered on this site.

I REALLY enjoyed this class. Like I honestly didnt think I would take away much from it so I was skipping thru it just taking bits. The bits were so good i decided to really watch the whole thing. The biggest issue is that hes too fast of a talker, and some bits are a little harder to follow than others and kind of require you watch it again and again, but once you got it its amazing.

Outstanding job! Learned a lot about lightning, headshots styles, photoshop techniques and even some psychology to use with your clients in order to get better results . Highly recommend this course.

Outstanding course, one of CL's very best. His extraction technique alone is worth the full price of the course. I especially appreciate that he eliminates almost all barriers to entry with his emphasis on using one's existing equipment to get started. Hughes demonstrates how anyone can produce a sellable head shot with just a single speed light and modifier before he goes on to show more complex lighting setups. Plus, Gary Hughes just might be CL's most engaging instructor. Terrific course, well worth the price.

I have no watched this (or sections) about half a dozen times. Every time I have a major headshot marathon, I go back and review... Gary Hughes presents as a total dudebro and NOT the kind of person I would normally respond to, but he is SO knowledgeable and simplifies things in a way that is amazing. I especially love the way he handles inclusivity in gender presentation in posing, as well as "imperfections." I'm really glad that I didn't write it off in the beginning because of his style... it's one of the most informative and well-presented classes I've seen.

Awesome class - I learned more about headshot photography in this one clase that in the 20 years I have been shooting people. Gary provides easy steps to follow and understand. I purchased this class and plan to watch it again as I try Gary's process.

This is a great class. I have watched a bunch of head shot and portrait based videos just clicking around YouTube, but having all the information you need and more in a single resource is amazing! This course covered so much more than what I had hoped to find anywhere else! Thanks Gary!

WOW! I have skipped around a little bit in this course, but, Gary does an OUTSTANDING job of explaining so many details (and he actually shoots a bunch, so it is not just conceptional fluff talk)

I know that "school photographers" often get a bad wrap (sometimes its deserved), but after being trained as an underclass photographer -- this course is great to teach me "why" I was trained the way I was. This class is so much more then that and well worth the price of admission. Plus, Gary is very personable and fun to watch/listen to. Great Course (imho) :)

As a pro of 14 years, I know and agree with a ton of what he teaches. Also as a pro of 14 years I found so many instances, where I had my mind blown on small finesses, that will develop things I'm already doing and take them to another level. If you don't recoop the lessons you've learned in this workshop, on your very first headshot session by 5 times, then you're blowing it.

Excellent! Lots of great information, especially about the business and marketing side. Lighting and posing ideas was very helpful and I love the real life comments and advice. If I had one criticism it would be on the retouching part. Very basic and outdated, (not the video's fault) but Photoshop has been updated several times since 2015 and the techniques and tools have changed. Plus Gary was retouching the faces of professional models in this video, not having to deal with real everyday faces, I would have loved to see his technique for retouching a double chin etc. that we deal with with non-professional models. Overall I was so impressed that I bought the second part.

Very useful information. The way Gary breaks it down and demonstrates has been incredibly helpful. My confidence level has soared and his class has taught me how to get the job done efficiently when doing volume assignments.

A great course and well worth the money. It took a week to complete as I wanted to soak-up all the good material. This course has given e the tools to go out and do the job. I will go back to this course many times in the future. Thank you.

I haven't gone through it all yet. But it's great so far! Does anyone have advice on who to use or how to find a good retoucher for outsourcing? (I'm sure they might cover this at some point! haha) Thanks!

I'm overwhelmed by how much I learned here. The topics tell you the entire range of material he covers, but it doesn't indicate how easy it is to listen to Gary and understand what he's saying. Extremely easy-going, but still professional, Gary is a great teacher for his craft. You almost feel like you've known him for years. And I also appreciated his sensitivity to us photographers who are not swimming in money, the way he allows us to get very good photos with minimal equipment. This class is well worth the money.
