Adding Paint & Glitter to the Lace

So with this piece of lace before I stiffened it, I did size it a little bit. So when I say size it, what I mean is just to hold it up to my head and feel how bigoted. And so in the back there's just there's a gap of a few inches. And so, um, this would be sized for, well, the way it is right now. It would be sized for an adult or even a child. If it's something that you want to fit, Um, an infant as well. You would just size it down a little bit like this size, more or less, right? Yeah, yeah, maybe maybe something like that. So, um, so if I were making something for an infant, I would, um, you could make it any amount shorter than this, but I would size it about 12 inches to go around the head, but with the crown's or with the headdresses. If the embellishments air just in the front, that's fine, too. So it's It depends on on what you prefer. This is something that goes most of the way around the head, which which I think looks nice. But it's totally up to you now, is it better to gi...

ve a little bit more than to have less on Ben, you know? Yeah, Well, yeah. Yeah. So for the stiffening, definitely. So we want to be a little bit conservative with the length when we do a stiffening. And so the next step before we paint is to trim the site, OK? And so the reason we want to trim it before the paint and not after is because if I painted this now and then trimmed it, I'd get a little bit of blue showing on the site, OK? And so once it's stiffened, it's not going to fray anymore when I trim it and it will keep a nice solid edge. So So this is already sized pretty well, So I'm just going to trim um, like 1/2 inch to an inch off the sides. Um So when I trim it, what I like to Dio is oftentimes I want to do the same on both sides, but I'm going to trim in the bottom part of the peak. And so with these laces Utkan, you can follow a pretty straight edge from the bottom to the top so I'm going to trim right there. And are those fabric scissors or Yes. Okay. These are fabric Says that, um, you know, if you don't have fabric scissors, that's fine too. Yeah, but these air, these air nice ones that that were a gift might just karate chop it. Yeah, like butcher knife. I prefer a little straighter. Ed Ugo. Yeah, there's randomness. Todo I don't know what shape. I'm kidding. You fly fly by the seat of your pants. Yeah. Um, so on the other side, I'm gonna go ahead and do the same thing and cut it in the bottom point, the bottom bottom, part of the point. And, um this edge, the such I really like that. Um That looks really nice. This one. You're a good trimmer. Thank you. This'll one. I cut it where the lace This is coming across straight, but it's singling out a little bit of what you see. I think I'm gonna leave it, though, because then the two sides of the lace of the same What I find sometimes is just depending on the nuances of the lace you might want I, like trim a little like around the corners or something. Um, which is pretty easy to do. And, you know, just provide some of those fine tune details that that help it help make it feel really nice. Eso The next thing will do here is paint, and yeah, and so, um, actually, I don't think I need this because I can just step right into into the paint. Um, but for this blue lace, I'm actually going to use my bronze paint because, um, it's more. It's more forgiving to darker colors of lace than the gold with the gold one. It can be a little bit harder, Teoh. Just because of the lighter color pain, it can be harder to cover up the darker colors of lace. So that's something to keep in mind when you're designing, right? So, for example, this this gold one, this was an ivory color lace, and so the gold went over it really nicely in it. It keeps sort of a fresh look. It was a general rule. The darker the fabric that darker the paint. Yeah, it makes it easier. You know, you can do layers of paint, and that will be just fine and it'll be stiffer but, um but I'm gonna go with with bronze for the sake of demonstration. So again, I've got my paintbrush and your paintbrush. Um, type and style really doesn't matter much. Um, you could even roll the song, right? Exactly. I've done that. When I'm doing multiples, I roll it If I'm doing one. You know, when you use the roller, you're gonna, um, use a little more excess paint, you know, And, um and so with my little tiny bottles off paint, I want to conserve with Christina, she would want to just dip it, dip it in a way so you can see that that painting can be a bit tedious. But, um, it's really what? What suits you? And, um, if you want to make more than one of these, you'll get better as you go. So maybe try one on Adam and I can see, though to the brush would help you to get inside the little crevices, right? It does. And so when I use the roller, I find myself like, uh, really pressing down and to get the pain to squeeze out of the the soft part of the lower, you know, But it It definitely does help. So, um, you can see I'm just dabbing here. And what the dabbing Cool. And then you would Would you flip it when you finish this side, You would just yeah thing. And do you finish one side completely and then flip or let it dry or go either way? Okay, um, I have had some where, um, where? I flipped it immediately. And So, um, I painted one side and then flipped it over and painted the other side. And then the backside ended up not having us full of coverage, Okay? Because because the, uh the details they like, pressed into the table, and then the paint didn't stick to it. And, you know, it's the backside of the crown, so it doesn't matter that much, but you can go either way. It depends on how much time you have, Um, and and just what works best for you. So? So the ruler, as you can see, just from from the way I'm painting here, the roller really does make it much more efficient. And while I'm dabbing, a lot of paint is going through to the other side, and that's fine. Um, you consort of like, rub your lease around Tom Bad and pick it up on the other side of double used with that, um, but with this metallic paint, uh, one thing when when your piece is drying one thing that really is helpful to dio is just pick it up and lay it back down, because otherwise some of this paint can dry and stick to the back. And then you've got little flakes. Yeah, and that's not pretty. Yeah, we're going for fashion year, so that just, uh, yeah, just makes it a little bit hard to work with using another metallic paints here. What do you use All the colors as well? I haven't because I really like the shine, the bling, But it would be perfectly fine, Teoh and really you could use any color and put glitter on it and give it some shine. And, you know, as you can see with this glitter and the way it sparkles and catches the light, it's it's it feels subtle. It's not too sort of in your face, and you could also choose not to paint it right. You get stiff in it. Yes, exactly. Exactly because you may want to put different types of beads in it. And what it let honey more natural type stones or things? Absolutely. Yeah. There's no mean to bling it out. Well, it's a different kind of link. Exactly. Yeah, exactly. So, um, so for the sake of of the demonstration, I'm just going to paint a few inches here and then another. Another sort of important part of this process, in my opinion, is, um is Teoh Use the wet paint to fix the glitter? Um, I have I've tried Teoh paint it and then, uh, paint glue on top of it and put the glitter on. And when I did that, the paint, the glue, I didn't get an even distribution. And then I had sort of blotchy glitter. So I can't have that. No. So and honestly, if you do have that, you can't really tell because again, this is Ah, This in particular is a transparent glitter. If you had an opaque glitter, then you might be able to tell a little bit more. But this is really forgiving, which I love about it. So So pretend you've painted this and then you let it dry. Well, no, you paint it and then you peel it off the table, and then you set it down and you let it dry, and then you paint the other side and he peel it off and you let it dry. And then, um, you'll have a perfectly trimmed, perfectly painted piece of lace. And, um, you know, And if you don't get all the coverage that you need the first time, it's just super easy to go in there and dab if you need to. And so, um so, while the paint is still wet on whichever side you want to be your front, we're going to put the glitter on. So, uh, you want to use the same? Actually, I'm just going to use this little spoon to put it on so you can see the glitter here so nice and subtle. And so the way I do this is Teoh. Put it in a little spoon like a like a measuring spoon, and then very gently Sprinkle it on. And so, the way I'm doing this, I feel like it. Um, it lets the glitter Sprinkle out very evenly, rather than getting some of that watching us. That can happen. And so when this paint dries, it will dry with the glitter on it. Um, and you would think that you would get some excess and you'd be able to shake it off. And you do want to shake it off a little bit so that you're not, um, walking around in a sea of glitter, but but it really a fixes pretty well. And I think one reason for that is because this is an ultra fine glitter. So, um, so you can see that it's not like it's not powder, but, um, but is very powdery. It's very fine. It's finer than some glitter. Yeah, it's not a traditional craft glitter, I guess, that you would use maybe on a kids project. Um, so So it's a nice A nice option. So you can see there. We've got here the before and after with, um, we went from a blue lace trim Teoh, A shiny metallic glittery crown. Yeah, it's getting there, right? Quite the transformation. And already, yes. Do you ever spray it with anything? So the glitter stays in place or doesn't stay on? I haven't tried that, but I think that's a great idea. What? What have you used as a having? I'm just wondering because I imagine, although it doesn't look like the glitter falls out, not it's really not. I mean, I have all these bands here, and there's no glitter underneath them, so and that's cool. That's a thing with glitter. I don't know. You experience it. It's I haven't glitter fear, you know, are you get the holiday card and like you're like Oh, well over me now I can't promise it doesn't come off, but But it's worked for me to just go ahead and apply the glitter on the glue. So and you know that makes it a little bit easier to because you're already doing the painting. So But if you don't paint and if you've got a lace that is a color that you want, then you could go ahead and and use something like a tacky glue on. And this tacky glue is pretty. It's pretty thick, so I might water it down a little bit, but you could go ahead and roll it on or painted on. I think I think, for doing glitter. Rolling it on would be really nice because it it gives it a little bit mark. Insistent seem Ah. So any questions about about the painting or the glittering? This is something we can dio, I think. Okay, Great. You're explaining it so well. Oh, well, all the little wonder details about how to do it. Okay, You have a question, Janet from Michelle Be Who's asking? It might be about a specific product. I'm not familiar with the name. It's a spray car, thane the same. Would that be good? Say that again. A car thane. C a r T h A N e. Not something we are familiar with, either. I don't think so. Okay. She was just asking That might be a good first step, but I think I think something that would spread on would be wonderful. I've actually, um, I when I when I first used the civilian product and I had a little trouble with the nozzle, I put it into a different spray bottle. I think it was like a travel size hair spray bottle. And, um, it didn't spray out us finally, as I would have liked. But I think if you've got a a well designed, um, spray container, I think that would be wonderful. Vara thing v a v a r a t h a N e. Yeah. I think she's more advanced tonight. I think. I think that sprain sounds like Okay, Yeah, I've defaulted to the rolling, but that's because that's something I'm comfortable with myself.
